One of the deputies involved in a gun battle Tuesday afternoon with fugitive former police officer Christopher Dorner has died of his wounds, law enforcement sources told The Times. The San Bernardino County sheriff´s deputy was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the sources. Another deputy was also wounded in the shootout near a cabin where Dorner was believed to be holed up in the snow-covered mountains near Big Bear. His condition was not immediately known.

Agree, OP! The wife of the deputy who was killed today just had a baby, according to a reporter who knew him. My heart goes out to all the families who have been affected by this. I hope and pray there are no more deaths of innocent people. Heavenly Father, keep the police officers safe from harm.

I´ve been following local SoCal news and the national cable networks pretty much since this mess broke today, and I can tell you that nobody in the media really knows exactly what is happening, but they´re flapping their pieholes nonstop anyway. The locals are a little better, but not much.

There´s no way this guy will be taken alive -- even if he surrenders -- which is highly unlikely. There´s no way in hell law enforcement out here will allow dorden to take the stand in his defense, should he ever go to trial. They´d rather burn down that cabin with or without hostages inside. He´s probably long dead by now.

We´ll never get the truth out of the LAPD, ever.

President Obama will discuss climate change in an upcoming Showtime documentary series produced by James Cameron. Mashable reports the segment with Obama will offer an exclusive understanding of the president´s thoughts on climate science and policy. Showtime taped the interview last week, individuals close to the documentary "Years of Living Dangerously" said. The series premieres April 13. This will be the first interview Obama has given solely on climate change since announcing his administration´s climate agenda last year. Cameron´s documentary focuses on the scientific aspects of multiple climate change threats. The project, funded in part by Cameron´s Avatar Alliance Foundation, was filmed in a

Astronomers have nicknamed a new dwarf planet circling the sun at the outer edges of the solar system after Vice President Joe Biden. According to Nature, a leading scientific journal, the object´s official designation is 2012 VP113. But the team studying its orbit around the sun colloquially refer to the planet as just "VP" or "Biden," after the sitting vice president. The object won´t carry an official title until scientists collect more data. After determining its orbit, they´ll submit a formal name to the International Astronomical Union (IAU) for consideration. A federal appeals court on Tuesday ruled that Kansas can strip two Planned Parenthood clinics of federal family planning money while the organization moves forward with its legal challenge of a state law it says is retaliation for its advocacy of abortion rights. Kansas is among several conservative states that have sought in recent years to strip Planned Parenthood of funding. At issue in Tuesday´s ruling is money distributed to states under Title X, a federally financed family planning program. The Title X money targets low-income individuals seeking reproductive services such as birth control, pregnancy testing, cancer screenings and treatment for

A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions. Corporations are not people. Corporations cannot have religious views. If religious rights are extended to corporations, it puts us on a slippery slope where any private company
