| The manhunt for fugitive former LAPD officer and suspected murderer Christopher Dorner has taken a toll on Southern California police departments. (Snip)The response on Sunday at a Lowe´s store in Northridge was massive, but the report that Dorner was there was later found to be false -- like many other sightings. But police say they´re not letting up. "We'll continue to go until we have Mr. Dorner in custody, and the threat has ceased," LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman said Monday. That is a tall order -- costly not in dollars, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck said, but also in public safety.

Anyone who has is a victim of a crime where only property is involved will be pretty much on their own.
Now they are talking about adding to the already $1 million reward. In the meantime there is apparently something that makes them think he may have fled to Mexico.
They just don´t know.

He isn´t the first person to murder two people, and he won´t be the last. So why are they putting so much effort into this that they are "crippled"? Perhaps the LAPD needs to step back and think rationally. Are they handling this differently because he is a former police officer? Because he targeted policemen? Because he made them look foolish?

The latest news in our area is that Fr. Michael Evans, pastor of Holy Angels Church in Arcadia, has gone into hiding. Sgt. Teresa Evans, who was alleged by Dorner to have kicked a mentally disabled suspect in the head and chest, is his sister. They even shut down the school at Holy Angels.

I am heartily sick of seeing pictures of Dorner looking like a great guy whom you´d like to share a pizza with. From all accounts, the guy had professional and personal troubles for a long time. It sickens me that so many people are trying to make him into some sort of Rambo character, instead of a person who would cold-bloodedly kill innocent people.
It is not uncommon for a defendant who loses a case to blame his lawyer. This guy took it to the crazy level by targeting the entire families of those who "wronged" him. How anyone can sympathize with the monster escapes me.
I do think LAPD needs to take this very seriously. But I also agree with those who have pointed out that this is the classic reason why we need less gun control, not more. Armed citizens can protect themselves when the cops are busy doing other stuff.

To #1 and 4: He left a manifesto to state that he wants to kill as many others as he can: hence, all the energy on finding him. As to Dorner: He appears to be both clever and dumb: First, the dumb - he had a history of complaints prior to his well-known complaint about his training officer. Not wise in any org to begin complaining before you establish a record, and a solid credibility. Further, he was a "cryer." Emotional. I had a programmer, a man, on one of my staffs once, and he was a cryer. He´d cry at every tiny slight, every wrinkle in a project... I know the type, and they are worse than a drag. Dorner, with this vendetta, if still alive, seems both clever and dumb: It was dumb to telegraph, in the manifesto, his targets - why warn them? However, he´s clever if the intent was to get the LAPD to commit an enormous whack of resources to protecting 50+ people, and in mounting the manhunt. He´s causing the LAPD the tremendous pain of stretched resources, and he has ALL of these people on pins and needles, fearing for their lives - they´re not sleeping very soundly at night, and by day, they´re consumed with the hunt and their own protection. It seems that if Dorner is still alive, he´s receiving help from confederates/sympathizers. Consider this too: what if he had dug a simple large hole in preparation up at Big Bear? He could pull a camo door shut, commit suicide, and leave the LAPD to be on a forever guard against him. His named targets, in the manifesto, could NEVER be completely comfortable THE REST OF THEIR LIVES... that would explain the manifesto´s detail regarding targets.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has permanently revoked the federal firearms license of East Windsor, Conn., gun store owner David LaGuercia, whose shop reportedly sold guns used in the Newtown school massacre and a second Connecticut mass shooting. ATF spokeswoman Deb Seifert told The Journal News on Thursday that she could not be more specific on the reasons LaGuercia’s license was revoked. An autopsy on Shain Gandee, a cast member of the MTV reality show Buckwild, showed he died of carbon monoxide poisoning, the Kanawha County sheriff’s department said yesterday. The deaths of Gandee, 21, his uncle David Gandee, 48, and friend Donald Robert Myers, 27, on Monday morning were ruled accidental after coroners completed the autopsies.(Snip) The truck was found after the MTV star was reported missing by family members after a late-night session in a local bar.

Spain´s Princess Cristina has been summoned to appear in court over allegations that her husband misused millions of euros of public money. It is reported to be the first court summons for a direct descendant of the Spanish king. She is King Juan Carlos´s youngest daughter. North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial.
