´My baby deserves a revolution´: Mother of honor student, 15, shot dead days after attending Obama´s inauguration hits out over gun control as two ´gang members´ are charged with her murder Daily Mail (UK), by Associated Press
The mother of the 15-year-old honor student who was shot dead days after performing at President Obama´s inauguration spoke out for more gun control Monday after police arrested two gang members for her daughter´s death. ´My baby deserves a revolution and I pray that what happened her to her will have an impact,´ said Cleopatra Cowley, whose daughter, Hadiya Pendleton, was killed the Chicago home of President Obama by a stray bullet. Michael Ward, 18, and Kenneth Williams, 20, are now charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm,
This has nothing to do with nothing, but I saw a picture of her and I believe she was either wearing a mink coat or a very good looking faux mink coat. Where´s Peta?
Who would she like to be in her daughter´s revolution? Blacks on blacks? Blacks on whites? I don´t think whites have anything to do with the killing in her town except for her white mayor who is either unwilling or unable to make it stop.
WGN had an exclusive last night with the father and his instant reaction to an arrest, poisoning the jury pool. Any defense attorney (Southern Poverty Law Center) would instantly demand a change of venue and 24 hour protection for his clients. In a week, this will be off the news as a plea arrangement is quietly made. No gun charges will be filed.
Gun control is only to hurt honest men and women. It helps the criminal and the dictators. Easy to attack the NRA when the problem is within the black community itself. No one is causing girls to have children. No one is causing the culture to glorify gangsta rap. No one but the entertainment field is to blame for promoting degrading of females and violence. Obama cares nothing about anyone. If he loved his ´people´ he would help them take responsibility. But the Evil One is only interested in power. I have a scorn for those who seek personal power..no matter what label they put after their name.
She is wrong. It takes more than a revolution. It takes repentance & a turning back to God. These young lives are being lost because many prefer lawlessness to godliness. No number of human laws are going to fix gangs until the black community recognizes its responsibility in allowing black marriages to die.
The revolution that Cleoptra is calling for has to be in stopping the liberal view that blacks are perpetual children, or worse, inferior to the white race. Viewing American born blacks as a group that can´t be expected to accept our mores and cultural values provides liberals (Democrats) endless excuses to blame America for the crime, the astounding illegitimacy rates and the endless dehumanizing behavior,
While liberals will bristle at the charge, the obvious failure of so many blacks to accept the norms of Western society is overlooked. Instead, Dutch slavers in 1690 are at fault, not the people born here 300 years later.
#18, I will have to file that line away for future use.
OP, "sic" is only used to mock people at churches and Tea Party rallies who dare to misspeak.
That having been said, what that child deserved was to be raised in a decent neighborhood without feral animals roaming the streets. My parents had to move a lot because of my father´s job, and they often would select a modest house in the town with safe streets and great schools, instead of living in a much larger place in a bad neighborhood. When parents make sacrifices for their kids, those sacrifices pay off. The decesased young lady´s mother does not look like one to make sacrifices for anyone. Now she can join the Gabby Giffords-Mark Kelly Express and make a buck off of her misfortune.
What´s the prospect of finding the killer of Donald Young (the intimate of obama) and his friend who was so brutally assassinated once obama started campaigning? All were members of the Rev. Wright´s church of the down-low.
Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it! Lots of BIG talk going on, as they imitate their divine leader´s big mouth. When polled, many believe the races are evenly split, 50-50. They have no clue they are 14% of the population.
Maybe mom is illiterate or ´grammar challenged´ shall we say, and meant to say ´resolution´, not ´revolution´. I hear black folks (and sorry to say, increasing numbers of white folks) using the wrong word to make themselves sound more intelligent.
Cleopatra needed to hire a moving van before her daughter was murdered. Now she wants a revolution because she chose to play Russian roulette with her children´s education and lives. How many millions of Americans have fled formerly nice neighborhoods when they´ve been overrun by violent lowlifes but I guess Cleopatra couldn´t be bothered.
It is a shame when someone is killed and someone is promising as this young lady was. But, you need to start cleaning up your neighborhoods, maybe you should have moved if it was so dangerous, maybe you should have spoken up and demanded gang violence be stopped, maybe you could have worked with the police to identify gang members. Start in the inner city neighborhoods and that is where the revolution you desire against guns should start.
The city failed to keep a public park it knew was near a school safe for the community. It allowed a gang to take over the space. That is what set the stage for Hadiya´s murder. I would be delighted to see zero tolerance for gangs. They are criminal enterprises, and there´s not a doubt in my mind that Hadiya´s killers have rap sheets showing one slap on the wrist after another, rather than serious punishment.
My sympathies on the loss of your bright and lovely daughter, Ms. Cowley. I know nothing could be more difficult. But the "revolution" that could save lives is not gun control, it´s a cultural revolution that needs to happen in the inner cities. Stop protecting the gangster rappers and film makers. Stop protecting those who elevate thugs.
Re: mink coats...here in Durham, fur coats are almost exclusively seen on black women (not white) even on the most balmy days and even in the most inappropriate settings, such as waiting rooms at Duke Medical Center.
If ya got it, flaunt it, right? As for me, I gave my furs to the hospital auxilliary resale shop years ago. Not because I am a PETA nut, but because it´s just too hot down here to wear fur.
The two who have been arrested had illegal guns. Gun control would have done nothing to stop them. In fact, in Illinois, it´s already illegal to have a concealed carry (but soon to be legal, with permits, thanks to SCOTUS).
Why should we care if the mother is wearing fur or has a cellphone. Is it that black people aren´t allowed to have these things? I don´t agree with the mother on gun control but if she wants to wear fur, fine. It´s cold in Chicago!
The illiterate mother doesn´t realize that strict gun laws are what resulted in heavily-armed gangs roaming the streets of Chicago with impunity. Yet she wants more of the same. The definition of insanity. And Obama agrees with her.
#39, we "should care" whether the inner-city mother wears fur and has a smart phone because it shows they may have had the financial resources to live elsewhere, but chose to stay in a troubled area. That illustrates they do have control over their destiny. I also noticed the *diamond* studs in her ears, and purple eyeshadow. Who goes into full fashion/make-up mode to attend their child´s funeral?
PS: Also noted the mother and daughter had different last names.
Warren Buffett´s Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N) will receive Goldman Sachs Inc (GS.N) stock worth nearly $2.15 billion on Tuesday through warrants acquired as part of a deal originally signed during the depths of the 2008 financial crisis. Buffett received the warrants five years ago when his investment in Goldman was seen as a vote of confidence in the bank, which was reeling from turmoil in the credit market. Under that deal, Berkshire had the right to buy about 43.5 million Goldman shares - or a roughly 9 percent stake then - at an exercise price of $115 per share, for
This is damn crazy. Isn´t it about time for President Barack Obama to say that? Or something like that? Once again, a rump group of Republican radicals in the House are throwing the US government into chaos, threatening a shutdown of federal agencies (unless Obama agrees to smother Obamacare in the crib) that could harm the economy and setting up another showdown over the debt ceiling that could cause a financial crisis that stretches from the United States to markets around the world. The president has denounced this obstructionism gone wild. On Friday, he decried House GOP "grandstanding," noting that
After Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke at a luncheon in Beverly Hills, Calif., last month, women from the audience swarmed around her, many of them asking the same question: will you run for president? (Snip) Ms. Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, said in an interview that she was not interested in seeking the presidency. And despite talk of a draft movement among some activists, it is difficult to imagine her taking on former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. But in seizing on issues animating her party’s base — the influence of big banks, soaring student loan debt and the widening gulf
A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist says that the official account of the raid which killed Osama Bin Laden in 2011 is ‘one big lie’. Seymour Hersh, 76, said that ‘not one word’ of the Obama administration’s narrative on what happened is true. (Snip)Hersh said the American press spends ‘so much more time carrying water for Obama than I ever thought they would’. In his opinion, the solution would be to shut down news networks like NBC and ABC and fire 90 per cent of mainstream editors and replace them with ‘real’ journalists who are not afraid to speak truth to power. ‘The
“Disgusting!” “Raunchy!” “Desperate!” So went the scathing reviews that poured in after once wholesome Disney star Miley Cyrus’ recent bizarre performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. (Snip) But the real scandal was how atrocious Cyrus’ performance was in artistic terms. She was clumsy, flat-footed and cringingly unsexy, an effect heightened by her manic grin. How could American pop have gotten this bad? Sex has been a crucial component of the entertainment industry since the seductive vamps of silent film and the bawdy big mamas of roadhouse blues. Elvis Presley, James Brown and Mick Jagger brought sizzling heat to rock,
The fact that United Nations weapons inspectors came under fire today in Syria as they attempted to visit the site of last week’s chemical weapons attacks didn’t do much to enhance the credibility of a mission that never had a chance of success. (Snip)Count me among those who believe that the U.S. cannot afford to make threats such as those made by Obama and let them slide. But if the U.S. attacks and Assad survives, America’s credibility—and that of the president—will be hurt, not enhanced. At this stage, mere gestures won’t be enough. To the contrary, once the West enters
President Obama urged law schools on Friday to consider cutting a year of classroom instruction, wading into a hotly debated issue inside the beleaguered legal academy. “This is probably controversial to say, but what the heck. I am in my second term, so I can say it,” Mr. Obama said at a town hall-style meeting at Binghamton University in New York. “I believe that law schools would probably be wise to think about being two years instead of three years.” The president’s surprising remarks, made while discussing how to make education more affordable, come at a time of crisis for
A little boy´s prayer for President Barack Obama has sparked the ire of conservatives after his mother videoed her son on his knees and uploaded it to YouTube. Much of the controversy revolves around the fact that like many young boys he seems to muddle his words up making it seem he is praying directly to the president. Thanking the commander in chief for his courage and bravery, the boy, known as Stephen, even thanks God for endowing the president with ´a special power´.
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
Washington--The Chinese sculptor Lei Yixin finished removing a contentious phrase on the memorial for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Thursday in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington at the end of the month. The phrase came from Dr. King’s “Drum Major Instinct” speech. It read, “I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness.” Critics of the memorial, including the poet Maya Angelou, said the phrase did not show the true nature of the full quotation.
Galesburg,IL--In a week when he tried to focus attention on the struggles of the middle class, President Obama said in an interview that he was worried that years of widening income inequality and the lingering effects of the financial crisis had frayed the country’s social fabric and undermined Americans’ belief in opportunity. (Snip)“If we don’t do anything, then growth will be slower than it should be. Unemployment will not go down as fast as it should. Income inequality will continue to rise,” he said. “That’s not a future that we should accept.”
Audacity: Renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson eloquently refuses to stay on liberalism´s black plantation. So, naturally, the left seeks his destruction. George Zimmerman´s prosecutors´ star witness, Rachel Jeantel — whose contentious, garbled testimony backfired badly — told CNN´s Piers Morgan of the jury that heard her, "They old. That´s old-school people. We in a new school, our generation." As she experiences her 15 minutes of fame, Jeantel would no doubt lump Benjamin Carson in with the "old-school people." But these two black Americans represent the different paths available to everyone in a free country, regardless of ethnicity.
Get ready for Chelsea Clinton Bump Watch 2014 — the only daughter of the former president and former secretary of State is declaring next year the “Year of the Baby.” In an interview for the November issue of Glamour magazine on her work with the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, Clinton reveals that she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are planning for a bouncing addition to their household. According to the 33-year-old Oxford grad, the pair, who married in 2010, sat down together a year after tying the knot and made a list focused on their future, saying, “We want,
On Tuesday evening, left-wing Politico ran a headline story encapsulating the theme of the day: “Government closed, Obamacare falters.” That message marked a massive loss for the Obama administration, which has claimed that Obamacare’s implementation could not be delayed, and used that rationale as an excuse to reject the House’s proposal for a one-year delay in favor of a government shutdown. The narrative began to shift early in the morning on Tuesday, when the Drudge Report ran a lead piece on the Obamacare health exchanges coming up with error messages for users across the country. “OBAMACRASH,” Drudge headlined. He followed
DALLAS —In a shopping center parking lot 1,300 miles from Washington’s bureaucracy and bickering, teen mom Karina Luciano loaded a watermelon and baby formula into her car. Luciano didn’t realize the federal assistance program that just purchased the food items for her children, Aimee, 2, and Jaiden, 11 months, is now in jeopardy because of the government shutdown. “Oh my god, I think I’m going to cry,” Luciano said upon learning the news. “This is really bad.” Nearly 9 million low-income mothers and children receive benefits under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Congress’ inability to
First lady Michelle Obama tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that her Twitter account will see fewer updates due to the government shutdown. Due to Congress’s failure to pass legislation to fund the government, updates to this account will be limited. #Shutdown 12:55 PM - 1 Oct 2013. In 2009, FactCheck.org found that the first lady had a staff of 24 people. It is unclear whether any of the first lady’s staff have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown.
The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday. Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial. The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in. “We got the heads up
New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait spent his government shutdown day mocking WWII veterans who were shut out by the National Park Service (NPS) when they came to visit the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday morning, Representative Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and several Republican members of Congress helped tear down the barricades shutting the elderly veterans out of the WWII memorial. After the barricades were removed, dozens of veterans flooded in to conduct their often emotional visits. But, thinking he was being funny, Chait took to Twitter to poke fun at the veterans, joking that the NPS should
“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” — Barack Obama, October 30, 2008 “We are going to have to change our conversation; we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation.” — Michelle Obama, May 14, 2008 There certainly is no question that Barack Obama wants to change the United States. And there clearly is no doubt that such fundamental transformation is difficult, given our tripartite system of government — even though Obama entered office with large Democratic majorities in
Ronan Farrow’s ol’ blue eyes may say it all. Farrow, long described as the only biological child of actress Mia Farrow and New York filmmaker Woody Allen, may actually be the son of Frank Sinatra, his mom acknowledged in a bombshell report Wednesday. While Hollywood has whispered about the prospect for years, it was the first time that Mia publicly admitted the possibility. Asked point-blank by Vanity Fair about Sinatra’s possible parentage of Ronan, Mia coyly replied: “Possibly.” The “Rosemary’s Baby’’ actress was married to Ol’ Blue Eyes from 1966 to 1968 but continued to be his lover on and off afterward — including
President Barack Obama has called off his trip to Malaysia to tackle the US government shutdown, the office of Malaysia´s PM Najib Razak has said. Secretary of State John Kerry will represent him next week instead, the office said. The US government has partially shut down after the two houses of Congress failed to agree a new budget. More than 700,000 federal employees face unpaid leave, and national parks, museums and many buildings are closed. Mr Obama earlier vowed not to allow Republicans to undermine his signature healthcare legislation as a condition to restart the US government. "They demanded ransom," Mr Obama said.
The government shutdown will temporarily slash the staffs and operations of every “nonessential” federal program — which, as you can imagine, adds up to a whole lot of programs. There are the ones you know about, like the national parks and the panda cam. Then there’s everything else. Here’s 21 effects of the shutdown you might not have heard about. 1) No one will oversee the program that makes sure your organic food is actually organic. That’s called the National Organic Standards Program, and its entire staff was furloughed. Also on the Department of Agriculture furlough list: the people who check
Ted Cruz faced a barrage of hostile questions Wednesday from angry GOP senators, who lashed the Texas tea party freshman for helping prompt a government shutdown crisis without a strategy to end it. At a closed-door lunch meeting in the Senate’s Mansfield Room, Republican after Republican pressed Cruz to explain how he would propose to end the bitter budget impasse with Democrats, according to senators who attended the meeting. A defensive Cruz had no clear plan to force an end to the shutdown — or explain how he would defund Obamacare, as he has demanded all along, sources said. Things
If President Obama were really clever, he’d jump at the Republicans’ proposal in the continuing resolution to delay Obamacare for one year. A one-year delay is perhaps the only chance to prevent the Obamacare exchanges from becoming a disaster. Don’t take my word for it. Here’s Kevin Counihan, chief executive of Connecticut’s exchange, Access Health CT: “It is highly complex , it’s unprecedented and it’s not going to be smooth…. This is a two- to three-year implementation we’re doing in 10 months. I wish we had one more year.” The problem is that the test runs have revealed the exchange websites aren’t
