It doesn´t? Then why would I be a felon in all of Illinois for doing what is perfectly legal and proper in most states in the country?
I go a long way out of my way to avoid that criminal paradise (and keep my revolver loaded and holstered).

So the other issue is that "mandatory" sentences would likely disproportionately hit a certain demographic group, and that would require many studies, much hand-wringing, commissions, reviews and recommendations, and ultimately reparations for those most affected.

What my "dog whistle" hearing is making out is that they have lightly enforced gun use laws, but heavily enforced gun ownership laws.

If you use a gun in a crime, you get a smack on the wrist. If you try to lawfully carry a gun as is legal in most other states, then they will throw the book at you for every infraction, imagined or otherwise.

Pathological dishonesty is a requirement in Democrat-dominated cities like Chicago.

"Mandatory minimums" are unjust and wrong. Sure they cut down on crime. So does locking up everyone who jaywalks for 10 years! I know you folks think all judges are lefties that are soft on criminals, but that is really not the truth at all. A lot of judges are corrupt and get paid off, and we also do have a few bleeding hearts out there, but overall, most judges are not like that. We just hear all the stupid stories. There are many more that are worse and if you are poor, expect to be convicted even if you are innocent. Or if you were caught with others (perhaps even against your will) who did something you didn´t expect, plan to possibly spend the rest of your life in prison. The system is broken, folks. And if you want to take discretion away from judges in sentencing, then you must also agree with zero tolerance rules in schools where kids are kicked out for drawing pictures on their binders. It is the same mentality.

One of the unfortunate consequences of mandatory minimum sentences is the plea bargaining of felonies down to misdemeanors.

Perhaps so regarding what happens to violent criminals using guns in violent crimes.

I can´t stop laughing about this guy being "flanked" by the ballerina. McCarthy reminds me of "Baghdad Bob", standing in front of cameras while U.S. tanks were rolling in the streets and denying that the Americans weren´t there.

The crime rate won´t change much until the behavior of Chicago´s citizens changes. That´s the underlying problem that Dems will never address.

When I hear "political" animals such as this make those kinds of statements, then I know very well why the founders gave us the 2nd Amendment. Truly the insane are in charge of the asylum.
