this is just a small micro example of what would actually happen in a national emergency.... very scary

Carnival has had this happen before. they are negligent in that they don´t have plan to prevent this from happening. I see valid law suits coming from this incident. Bet, Just think what it will be like in the States when food becomes so expensive that people won´t be able to afford it.

I think it’s time to face facts. That place is going to be a Mad Max/thunderdome Waterworld/Lord of the Flies horror show within the next few hours. My advice is to prepare yourself now. Hoard weapons, grow gills and learn to communicate with serpents. While you’re working on that, find the biggest guy you can and when he’s not expecting it beat him senseless. Gather young fighters around you and tell the womenfolk you will feed and protect any female who agrees to participate without question in your plans to repopulate the earth with a race of gilled-supermen. It’s never too soon to be prepared.

I used to entertain the idea of going on a cruise sometime. The horror stories, which, at the minimum, include tainted food and a boatload of sick people, I´ve decided that I will do enjoyable things for vacations which don´t come with such dangers built in.

A cruise ship ran out of food? Did the radio break too so they couldn´t send an SOS?

Maybe they could sing a song in the meantime:

A whole day of hardship and this happens. What a bunch of wimps. I also doubt that food was short for very long--buffets with sandwiches and coffee seem adequate given the circumstances.

#6, look at the bright side, if they don´t eat they will not need toilet paper. There, fixed it.

Cruise Critic member Clinty76, who says his wife and mother-in-law are onboard, posted this note from his wife on the message boards: "We are about to get supplies from another cruise ship and apparently the tug boats should be here tomorrow around noon ... We have no power AT ALL, which means we can´t use the toilets, wash our hands, or take a shower."

Another member, jgomila198101, said that her sister called and relayed the following: "They have plenty of food. They are all fine, but doesn´t look like they will be back until Wednesday night. Said they are still having fun and gave me the task to call her boss who seems to think I was lying LOL. OH WELL glad they are enjoying the extended vacation."

I´d rather be on a cruise liner at sea level with no engines, than on a 757 at 38,000 ft with no engines.

Sounds like a Caribbean ORI Cruise I made on the USS Independence in the spring of 1969 -

Toilets quit working.
Water Hours - no showers, drinking fountains, sinks, etc.
Baloney sandwiches 3 X a day.
No AC, except in the Computer Room where my mates and I slept (no tents).
Long lines for chow and, yes, fights broke out.

But at least I was getting paid the princely sum of about $200 a month, plus free baloney sandwiches.

Couple of things come to mind ...

Can´t you just dip some water out of the Gulf and use that for the toilets?

Same with showers ... a bit of Gulf water is better than no water at all to wash up.

Six of my friends were on this ship and arrived back in Galveston on Thursday. They said that the ship´s roll-control system appeared to fail on the last day of their cruise.

In a related story, Captain Obama assured the passengers that there were no actual problems, and they´d be underway just as soon as the Republicans were safely clapped in irons.

Hence my aversion to buffets.

I´m confused. Were there no capitalistic or at least opportunistic-minded ship or boat captains in the gulf willing to deliver supplies or take on passengers (to ferry to shore) for a price?

As long as they don´t run out of booze, and there are enough deck chairs to bask in the sun, I wouldn´t know the difference. As far as bathrooms go, well, there is the whole Gulf of Mexico.

Sheesh. I don´t know which is worse, the debilitating stomach bugs on these cruises or this.

Perhaps Carnival will issue vouchers for free cruises to these unfortunate souls, but would they take them? I wouldn´t.

If there really is no food (what about drinking water?? that is more important!), why doesn´t Carnival have some dropped onto the deck until they can be brought back? This is just stupid!

Oh give me a break. The whining is just too much.

So you were out of power for a few days. You had a place to sleep, you were not suffering from exposure, there is drinking water. I don´t believe there is a lack of food. There are freezers, they can defrost food, the food in the refrigerators would last likely for at least the first day--and they said they had generator power so perhaps longer than that.

I have been stuck in snowed-in airports eating vending machine food for longer than that.

I´m to go on my first cruise in May, to the Bahamas. It´s only a two nighter, but now I´m nervous.

One thing is certain. This cruise will be more memorable than it would otherwise have been for those involved.

I have noticed that Carnival is less concerned for customer welfare than any of the other cruise lines I have been on.

Why would you like to spend your vacation in the floating hotel?
Might as well go to Vegas and walk the strip, at least you can change hotels if the one you are staying have some problems.

Carnival is one of the worst cruise ship lines. It is really at the bottom of the list of excellent lines.

Been sailing Holland America and Celebrity for years. Never had a problem.

#29, I took a short cruise years ago and during the day it was beautiful but at night it made me very uneasy. I guess I didn´t realize without the sun, how black the water would be. Not seeing any lights on the horizon really bothered me too. I turned out to be a land-lubber at heart. Never do it again.
