| The parents of Chicago shooting victim Hadiya Pendleton will join First Lady Michelle Obama at the State of the Union address on Tuesday, as the president urges Congress to combat gun violence. Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton and Nathaniel A. Pendleton´s daughter Hadiya was shot and killed on Chicago’s South Side in January, just days after the teenager traveled to Washington, DC to mark the president´s inauguration. She was an honor student and band majorette at King College Prep High School. According to the White House, the First Lady´s box at the address will include Americans from middle class families whose lives

Are they sure they want to remind people of the futility of such laws?

With respect to her parents, it is shocking and disgusting how this particular shooting tragedy is being treated by everyone. The media giving daily "updates" on the status of the legal case. Even the funeral - I watched a good bit of it online. It was HIGHLY political even without Mrs. Obama´s presence. Have these families who continue to allow Democrats to use them as campaign props have no honor at all?

It´s interesting to note how many ´people of color´ have stepped forward *after* an ´Obama endorsement´ - to comment on exactly what they got for their trouble - generally 15 minutes of fame - and damned little later from their Savior or his administration.
This is simply another narcissistic photo-op for the leech-in-chief.

Poster 3, democrats say gun laws don´t work in Chicago because the weapons are smuggled into the city from counties and states with lax gun laws. Their implication is that if gun laws were strong everywhere, gun violence would subside. Of course, democrats don´t wish to talk about the criminal element in Chicago who are responsible for the outrageous homicide rate, nor the fact that a high incidence of gang murders simply don´t exist outside of the Windy City. The democrat reasoning on gun control is stupid because even if there was a nationwide ban on guns, an abundant supply of black market weapons would be smuggled across the southern border by the estimated 1 million illegals who sneak in each year. Safety is clearly not the democrat objective behind their pleas for more gun laws. It´s all about control of law abiding citizens.

It is beyond sickening the way politicians USE people. This young girl´s funeral was last week and the politicians are milking it for all it´s worth. We all grieve in different ways, and I don´t believe we should ever criticize anyone. All I know is that when we had to have a funeral for one of our teenage children, it took many months before any of us could function very well.

This poor child was murdered, but she is only one of hundreds murdered in her city every year. If I were her parents, I would accept the opportunity to be in the gallery, and in the middle of the speech, I would stand and shout "Why won´t our city and our President allow us arm ourselves to protect our children?" But sadly, that is a pipe dream. Condolences to her parents, but how sad that they are allowing her sweet life be reduced to a political stunt, a common occurence in the Obama White House.

Last fall, Ginnette Powell traveled from her home in Boston´s Dorchester section to her old middle school in South Boston - a journey of just two miles, but one that covered a huge emotional distance. Finally, she was able to leave the painful past behind. Powell endured the explosive battle over desegregation in Boston in the 1970s. Tears come to her eyes when she talks about how it took her decades to return to the place where she never felt safe as an African-American seventh-grader."It was scary because of what you were going into, getting bricks thrown at your bus.

A few years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lindalyn Adams was escorting visitors on a bus traveling down Elm Street near Dealey Plaza. “I was pointing out the John Neely Bryan cabin and the Old Red Courthouse, and suddenly I realized the whole bus was leaning towards the right as we were going close to the Texas School Book Depository, and the women [were] pointing and saying, “Is that? Is that? Is that?’” Adams recalled during an oral history interview. She knew, of course, what “that” meant. “That” was where Kennedy had been shot.

They’re big. They’re ugly. They’re noisy. And they’re coming. So get ready. The blockbuster brood of the periodical cicada, large insects that emerge en masse from the ground in 17-year intervals across the northeast, is on its way — and New York City’s largest public radio station is encouraging residents in Central Jersey and beyond to help track the invasion. “The whole idea came from our news director, Jim (Schachter, of Summit), who lives in New Jersey — he promised his wife that they would move from their home before the 17-year cicadas came back,”

The night began like many at Boorda Hall, a five-story barracks at Naval Station Great Lakes, the Navy´s premier training base on the shore of Lake Michigan in Illinois. Somebody announced a party, and the hard drinking and beer pong began. A 21-year-old Marine lance corporal, so drunk on rum and Mountain Dew she was slurring her words, went to look for Kyle Antonacci, a Navy seaman she´d been dating off and on. Antonacci soon texted his friend Mike Pineda to help him deal with her. Both men had sex with her that night. But what distinguished May 8, 2009,

The State Department team was delivering books to an Afghan school in the Qalat district of Zaul province when their convoy was hit by a suicide bomber, Secretary of State John Kerry said Saturday. "She was everything a foreign service officer should be: smart, capable, eager to serve, and deeply committed to our country and the difference she was making for the Afghan people," Kerry said of the slain official.

As the final buzzer sounded, a Louisville player tossed the ball high into the air and injured Kevin Ware stood up, thrusting his arms above his head. The Keystone XL Pipeline has emerged as a major issue in the Massachusetts special U.S. Senate election, with environmental groups committing nearly one-third of the $1.25 million in outside money already spent on campaigns. The biggest spender so far is the League of Conservation Voters, which has already spent more than $545,000 to help elect Democratic candidate and Rep. Ed Markey, who has a strong pro-environment platform. “Our field campaign is resonating with voters across Massachusetts,” said Navin Nayak, a political specialist for the group. “The people of Massachusetts want climate change champion Ed Markey representing them.”

At the corner of Columbia Pike and Walter Reed Dr. in Arlington, Va., sits a stainless steel bus stop with a million dollar price tag. Yes, that’s right. The futuristic-looking bus stop cost $1 million to build. The so-called “super stop” boasts a heated concrete floor and a digital display board that shows when the next bus will arrive, but it doesn’t do much to keep commuters warm or dry (except for their feet). The stop leaves the people waiting for transportation exposed to the elements.(Snip) Some $800,000 of the money came from federal and state tax dollars via grants,

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that
