Reconstructing Obama´s Columbia Transcript

| Jason Kissner recently questioned President Obama´s whereabouts in spring 1982, and also discussed in passing some of the courses Obama took while at Columbia. In response, I would like to try my hand at reconstructing the Columbia part of Obama´s college transcript based on the published record and my own knowledge of Columbia´s requirements as an ´84 graduate of the college. This reconstruction may be of interest to those who are curious about this part of Obama´s undergraduate education, and it may also shed light on where Obama must have been in spring 1982.

It all comes down to why the MSM allows Obama to get away with keeping so much of his life secret and off limits to question or investigation. An actually free press would never, ever allow that.

How much has been spent to date hiding the truth about the real Hussein Obama? This fraud has been foisted on the American people and there is no justice on the horizon.

I´m really not feeling the assumptions in this article at all.
Who says Obama would have only taken and received 54 transfer credits from Occidental? That he wouldn´t have taken any language classes or other classes that Columbia would have accepted toward their core curriculum requirements?
I really see nothing offered that suggests otherwise, and no reason not to assume that at all.

You don´t play "plenty of pickup basketball and soccer" if you are serious about your studies and are taking a full course load. More than likely, jugears skipped a lot of classes and had somebody else do his work for him. That´s exactly how he operates today.

I have some questions about the author´s logic as well.
Obama spent his early (formative) years in Malaysia.... why does the author assume the required foreign language class was Spanish? Seems to me Obama could have aced Arabic or whatever other southeast Asian/Pacific language he grew up with.
Second, why do we assume that Obama studied anything at all? He was fast-tracked through the progressive college/university system by his (many) progressive mentors. They needed an acceptable black - in his case, half-black - figurehead who could bring in the real American blacks, and not off-put American liberal whites.
Obama was groomed from this early age - possibly earlier - for the exact position he´s currently in..... (mis)leading the United States into self-destruction - their Utopian dream (or, as Mark Levin so aptly titled it, Ameritopia).

Reply 5, you have got it pegged - hammer meet nail head.
I tried reading the article, but got lost in all the college life stuff.
Since my education in such stuff ended at the 9th grade level, (I did 10 thru 12 in an apprentice program learning to establish a good connection between hands and brain in order to build something beneficial) the reading of said article was like eating one of those sinfully delicious white cookies loaded with too many academia nuts. The experience anesthetizes the taste and overwhelms the logical brain.
Oh, macadamia you say, OK - sorry ´bout that - and thanks, guess even an old dog can learn something new.

Very weak.

5, most universities have language requirements that restrict you to certain languages. Not sure that Arabic or Indonesian would have been one of them in the early 1980s.
The rest of 5´s comments hold more water IMO -- the special-case argument. Universities have endless procedures for petitioning for variances from stated requirements/policies. That is where the smoking gun is in this case, I think.

FAR: ´´Seems to me Obama could have aced Arabic or whatever other southeast Asian/Pacific language he grew up with.´´
However, Obama denies the ability to speak any foreign language.
Yes, the author is speculating here, but he tells you that. Since the record is not made available, educated speculation is what we have. The speculation is reasonable, given the known requirements for graduation and the credit transfer limits. I am wondering if Obama even completed the requirements for graduation, or if he was given special dispensation and simply awarded a degree.... Nothing would surprise me about the actions of the political left.

No. 15. Yes, but it is exceedingly rare. The only case I can think of was a alumni of my law school who went on to become a US attorney during the Reagan administration. He was an undergrad of the same university and petitioned the university to be allowed to skip his fourth year of college for reasons of financial hardship.

#15, It is possible at certain law schools, but very few attempt it. Baylor Law School, for example, allows (or did when I was there) students to enroll in law school while finishing up their senior year at Baylor. As a practical matter, it would be extremely hard to do, as that first year (especially at Baylor) is all-consuming; no time for ANYTHING that didn´t involve law school. As to his purported 3.7 GPA but not graduating with honors, Columbia may not have given him a grade credit for classes taken at Occidental, just that he passed them. That is done at many 4-year schools. Your graduating GPA is what you made at the 4-year. Maybe Obama re-figured his GPA to include the Occidental scores and his lower Columbia scores to come up with a higher GPA than he actually had at Columbia.

#5, you have stated what I have believed for a long time. B. Obama doesn´t carry himself as a college educated adult nor does he speak as one. He´s intellectually lazy and as we know from his Hawaiian HS experience he spent most of his time stoned. Same for Occidental.
My transcripts have all of the missing information that Obama´s don´t seem to have. I didn´t go to Columbia, but my college was pretty strict as to who graduated and who didn´t. The rules were/are clear. It´s funny, but from my HS graduating class, the washouts came back to our hometown college to live at home and re-organize. Since it was a state college they either succeeded or washed out again and traveled. Then they finally settled down and were successful. Nobody ´gave´ them the option of not attendind classes or would put up with ´disappearances´, especially parents. Well, we know he didn´t have engaged parents so where was his funding source. Even people that gave scholarships expected good grades. Apparently Obama´s funding sources didn´t really care.
We have plenty of academics, but none of them appear to be intelligent. They are very successful at brain washing. Obama and Democrats get excellent grades in that endeavor.

#21, that is entirely possible. I transferred to Georgetown University my sophomore year and studied abroad my junior year. All of my credits transferred with me, but not my GPA. I graduated with a 3.2, but I figured out it should have been a 3.6. Also, Columbia is not known as a language school, I truly doubt they offer Arabic even today. The well-known language schools in this country are Georgetown, Middlebury College in VT, and the Defense Language Institute in CA.

Were transfer students at Columbia required to complete the core curriculum requirements? It seems like that would be a big reason not to transfer there. The reasons why O transferred have always been murky. I truly doubt he had a 3.7 average. As others have said, why hide the transcript if that were the case.

With the grade point average he claims to have earned, Obama should have graduated at least Magna Cum Laude (if not Summa, especially in that era of post-sixties grade inflation.) Yet he is not on the Honors List. My guess is that he was at most 2.7 (about a 77% or C+ under the old grading system prevalent in universities pre-1968).
By the way, Bush One graduated Phi Bet Kappa from Yale. Where´s Obama´s Phi Beta Kappa Key?

Many universities, including the one where I work, will not allow transfer courses to count in your major. Courses in the major must be taken in residence. I would think Columbia would have such a policy, not don´t know for sure. Especially in the 80´s.

#27, as a graduate of Defense Language School I can tell you it´s all about the language. As a military operation there is no room for goofing off or missing classes. If you´re sick you´d better get yourself to sick call for a written excuse.
Very intense environment. The morning I woke up having actually dreamed in Russian I knew I was actually starting to ´get it´. BTW, the Red Cross was very clever in working with the leadership at DLI. Since skipping a day of class was a major no-no, and the students were under a great deal of pressure, the Red Cross would have a blood drive every six weeks. On a Friday. All donors were excused from classes for the entire day.
Needless to say, nearly the entire school of young, healthy people turned out to donate blood. The Red Cross hauled away gallons and gallons of blood and we all got a three day weekend. Win win situation.

Interesting point by Iachetta, an ´84 Columbia grad:
"Maraniss quotes Obama as saying that he graduated from Columbia [in ´83] with a 3.7 grade point average (Maraniss, 465). Based on my own experience, he would have graduated with honors if that were the case."
So Iachetta says that a Columbia senior graduating in ´84, with a 3.7 GPA, would´ve graduated with honors. Ergo, he seems to be saying, Obama should be boasting of having graduated with honors (assuming the same GPA standard was required for honors status a year earlier in ´83).
But not even the most ardent Obama image-maker claims that the Great Zero graduated with honors.
This should be easy for even a cub reporter to find out. And Maraniss´s book, with Obama´s claimed GPA, has been out for years now. But .... crickets.

right #36. It just struck me how Obama is operated remotely, almost as a dumb terminal, akin to the way early Russian jet aircraft sorties that had no radar were said to be guided by the base control tower and their radar. Bamboozler was probably contacting his handlers during Mr Carson´s speech, asking for an assist, comrad.

So many of you have missed the point. Any college, and especially a prestigious one, is not going to allow a transfer student to parachute in, leave no footprints, and waltz away with a honored diploma granted by the institution.
Most colleges accept a very limited number of credits from a transfer, and the idea that Obama was able to complete all of the requirements in 2 years, is more than unlikely. And, doing so with no one noticing that he was even in class with them?
Didn´t I read somewhere that Bill Ayres, Sr. was associated with Columbia? There had to be an insider in the admissions dept.

I have some familiarity with college transfer procedure. Your credits only transfer if the school you are transferring into has a course that is roughly equivalent in rigor and content and grade level. It is quite possible to lose credits in a transfer, especially if the original institution has some sort of esoteric curriculum like the Great Books program at St. John´s College in Annapolis, MD. Grades and GPA never transfer. Your GPA at the new university depends totally on what you accomplish at that institution. At least that´s how we did it in the 60s and 70s.

#5, 26 and 51...Ayers was in New York one block away from Obama at the same time ...and I assume did Obama´s course work...
...as to Harvard Law, if your patron donated 25million on your behalf...you´re on easy street...and probably elected to be "the President of the Harvard Law Review" ...remember he wasn´t the editor...and that´s a difference with a distinction ...Obama didn´t compete for the position and it was convenient coincidence that the ACLU sued Harvard Law at just that time as no minorities had been head of their law review...
Want to thank someone for Obama..thank the Saudi Prince who paved and paid the way...and be certain to bow to him as Obama did...
#5, that probably earlier comment is intriguing...

In one of his more well-publicized gaffes, Vice President Biden said of John McCain: "Look, John´s last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs." Actually, of course, it´s a four-letter word, and it was his job and the president´s to create a climate for job expansion, and they failed. The evidence is now overwhelming: they have created the worst employment climate in decades.

When your article inspires a big-city mayor to refer your case to a "human-relations commission," you know you´ve hit a nerve. And when that article is the recent "Being White in Philly" piece by liberal Robert Huber, you know it doesn´t take much truth to hit that nerve. That´s the scary part. Huber´s article contains mostly tepid examples of whites´ negative experiences with blacks and primarily black neighborhoods, such as a Philadelphia resident whose grill was stolen from her backyard but "blames herself" for not fencing it in. Its tone is basically apologetic, absolving a drug dealer of responsibility

That´s something to remember when you arrive there next week. Israel has a government, elected by its people in a free, fair, open and democratic election. Multiple parties representing widely divergent points of view met a wildly diverse electorate through free media and open debate. This is no stultified two-party affair with a libertarian insurgency. Israel will be the only country you visit in the region, this time or any other, that has a fully democratic system. Do not be swayed by the "apartheid" slander. Citizens of Israel are Jews, Moslems, Christians, and Druze, each with religious and non-religious elements.

Why Florida Persists in the Zimmerman Prosecution

Prodded by a president with a weakness for racial agitation and enabled by a politically complicit media, the State of Florida persists in a prosecution that can come to no good end. The defendant is neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman. The charge is the second-degree murder. The potential outcomes range from major injustice, if Zimmerman is convicted, to mayhem in the streets, if he´s acquitted. And the state plods on as though the angels were on its side. They are not. The witnesses to the February 2012 shooting of 17 year-old Trayvon Martin are proving even more troublesome

The political world changed its orbit Wednesday as Rand Paul seized the spotlight in his March 6 filibuster. Rand Paul -- not this author´s favorite before -- is probably now the 2016 front-runner for president. But the difference results from fundamental changes in substance. How can one day be that big of a deal? Because Rand Paul demonstrated a reproducible, winning formula. It was as if Ronald Reagan were granted just one day to come back to Earth to remind the Party of Lincoln of "how it´s done." Rand demonstrated a repeatable formula that all Republicans can copy.

Sixty-three months ago Barack Obama officially declared his candidacy for President. Only now are some among the so-called media and ruling elites in America slowly awakening from their self-induced infatuation and beginning to understand who he is. It has become difficult to ignore the overt intimidation, demagoguery and deliberate falsehoods spewed forth by Obama relative to sequestration -- a miniscule cut in the growth of federal spending. However, any cursory examination of his past reveals that these tactics are second nature to the man who currently occupies the Oval Office.

Years ago, when I used to play poker with some guys, I played a hand in which across the table from me was someone who looked as though he had a straight flush. He kept pumping up the bidding and everyone folded but me. When we finally showed our hands he had nothing. "You don´t know what you´re doing," he yelled. "Any good player would have folded! Why did you stay in?" he shouted angrily. "Because you curled your lip and reacted furiously when I stayed in. Someone with a winning hand would never do that."

By law, on Friday the executive must begin to cut $85 billion from federal spending. Though, as is his wont, the president is blaming the Republicans for what he claims is a draconian measure. No less a Washington chronicler of events than Bob Woodward of the Washington Post considers that a gross distortion of the truth [T]he automatic spending cuts were initiated by the White House and were the brainchild of [Treasury Secretary nominee Jack] Lew and White House congressional relations chief Rob Nabors -- probably the foremost experts on budget issues in the senior ranks of the federal government.

Too little serious conservative analysis of the 2012 presidential campaign has yet appeared. This is understandable. The results of the election were disheartening to the point of shock. The campaign defied all historical precedent, all commonsense interpretation. The Romney ticket should not have lost and did not deserve to lose. The Democrats, fielding the least worthy ticket in the past century -- and that´s saying something -- did not deserve to win. The reasons they did are myriad and complex. But before we get too far down the road, there is one lesson that has to be grasped:

No, I´m not talking about Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael (God rest Michael´s tortured soul). I´m talking about the Chicago Jacksons, Jesse Sr. and Jesse Jr. The Jackson 5 in their heyday gave plenty: music, entertainment, and joy to their fans. The Chicago Jacksons are another story. Jesse Sr. (The Right Reverend) and his son (the erstwhile congressman) have done a lot more taking than giving. "Taking" may be too charitable a word. Shaking down and wheedling may be better descriptors for the Chicago Jacksons´ acts.

By now you likely have heard that Chris Rock considers Barack Obama America´s father. If that is true, then would somebody call Child Protective Services and find us foster parents! For Chris Rock, America´s true Founding Fathers were disappointingly white. I suspect that whatever the color of America´s Founding Fathers might have been, they would not have approved of having a failure like Obama among their esteemed membership. Thought the Founding Fathers had many flaws, they were smart enough to eliminate the self-indulgent institution of slavery from America´s future.

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

The Obama White House is scrambling to blame Friday’s abysmal March jobs numbers on the sequester’s trimming of the rate of growth in federal budgets that have yet to fully commence. After the Labor Department announced that a mass exodus of 663,000 workers left the U.S. workforce last month and that job creation fell 112,000 jobs short of projections, Obama’s top economic adviser Alan B. Krueger, took to the White House blog to blame the sequester: It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

The budget President Barack Obama will submit on April 10 will contain a proposal that would prohibit individuals from accumulating more than $3 million in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and tax-preferred retirement accounts. According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." "The budget would limit an individual’s total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per
