CORTEZ, Colo. - A school board in western Colorado has decided to allow the district superintendent and a principal to carry firearms onto school grounds. The Cortez Journal reports the seven-member board that oversees schools in Dolores County voted unanimously Wednesday to allow the principal at Dove Creek High School and the superintendent to double as security officers, provided they complete a concealed carry course and receive a permit from the county sheriff´s office. Superintendent Bruce Hankins and Principal Ty Gray will receive an additional $1 salary for the extra duties.

This was in the works before Sandy Hook.

Since they´ll be there in the event of something unforeseen occurring.....and won´t have to wait for who-knows-how-long for first responders to arrive....they´ll be in a position to keep a tragedy from happening, or lessening the number of victims. Good move. Hopefully more and more school districts are proactive. Gun free zones are like a shooting gallery at a traveling carnival.

Very interesting as to how various parts of the US deal with the school security issue.

I think I would rather have my grandkids attend school in Cortez, Colorado rather than in some liberal-run school district with their mandated "gun free zone".

The gun issue is becoming a war between common sense and feckless liberal causes.Even if you reduce ammo clips,it wouldn´t stop a school shooter from carrying several guns or become an expert at changing clips in the blink of an eye.

The area that started this whole controversy is opting for armed security guards which isn´t being reported by the media at all.

Now we´re finding out that this school´s choir which is getting countrywide accolades is some sort of fraud.

Ukraine has increased gas imports from Russia over the last few days, a spokesman for Ukraine´s gas transit monopoly said on Monday, amid warnings that state gas producer Gazprom might scrap a discount on prices. As concerns grow over gas supplies after Russian President Vladimir Putin won parliamentary approval to invade Ukraine, analysts say Kiev is trying to import as much gas as possible at the lower prices. Moscow, enraged with Ukraine´s new pro-EU government, has warned Kiev it could lose the discount it currently gets from Gazprom due to Kiev´s outstanding gas debt. "We doubled our gas imports from

President Obama will correct a historical act of discrimination next month when he awards the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest commendation for combat valor, to 19 Hispanic, Jewish and African-American veterans overlooked previously because of their racial or ethnic backgrounds. The unusual presentation will culminate a 12-year Pentagon review ordered by Congress into past discrimination in the ranks, and will hold a particular poignancy hosted by the nation’s first African-American president. Although the review predates Obama’s tenure, he has made addressing discrimination in the military ranks — including ending the ban on gay and lesbian service members — a

LOWELL, Mass. — Police in Lowell say a man who demanded money for shoveling the driveway of an elderly couple who hadn’t asked him to do so was chased away when the 79-year-old woman answered her door holding a gun. Police say the man knocked on the door of the woman and her 81-year-old husband at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and forcefully asked for payment for shoveling. They told him to leave, so he banged on the door harder. Police tell The Sun that the woman came to the door again, this time holding a gun at her side.

FOR FIVE YEARS, President Obama has led a foreign policy based more on how he thinks the world should operate than on reality. It was a world in which “the tide of war is receding” and the United States could, without much risk, radically reduce the size of its armed forces. Other leaders, in this vision, would behave rationally and in the interest of their people and the world. Invasions, brute force, great-power games and shifting alliances — these were things of the past. Secretary of State John F. Kerry displayed this mindset on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday when he
