| Remember when the mainstream media mocked a politician who had to attend five colleges to graduate, whose academic record was less than outstanding, and whose subsequent success was proof of nothing? Remember how that was supposed to be a threat to national security, the economy, and so much else? That was so 2008, so Sarah Palin. It turns out that former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), who is now awaiting confirmation as Secretary of Defense, attended five colleges and was a "D" student. He volunteered to serve in Vietnam,

Sounds like me, but only 2 colleges. When I was booted out of a large mid western Catholic University, my father said I had to either get. Job or on into the military . I chose the Marine Corps. After 6 years, serving our country, I re enrolled in College and graduated with a B average. A stint in he Marines will do wonders!

Remember how you groaned when the Democrats did this kind of crap to Dubya? The GOP smearing of Hagel is painting the party as extreme; expending political capital at a time where amnesty, gun confiscation, and climate change legislation are out there; and it is tearing the GOP apart.

Hagel did not sound very intelligent during his confirmation hearings. He was unable to defend his positions, and relied on the old ´history will have to be the judge of that.´ But as dimwitted as he sounded, he is smarter than the president, who is always the (glib) dumbest man in the room.

The difference between Hagel and McCain is that Hagel was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth like McCain. McCain had an admiral dad and grandpa. Did McCain get into the Naval Academy on his own merits? No. McCain was a lousy student, but showed courage as a POW. Hagel served honorably as an enlisted man. Hagel is not that bright either, but not as refined as the elite McCain. Neither McCain or Hagel qualify for their political jobs on military service alone. McCain will not rock the boat in Washington, so he is just making noise right now.

Vetting a presidential appointee is the senate´s job. You can´t just throw that job under the bus because you don´t want to create a toxic atmosphere in Washington.
Obama has shown time and time again he´s a terrible decision and policymaker,I wouldn´t give anything he does a free pass. Its not like the left didn´t do everything to block Bush appointments and judges.they attacked John Bolton as a bully at the state dept.,never mind that everyone under obama has been some form of bully themselves.
Bolton is the most qualified person in this country to be SoS because he´s clear headed and sees things as they are. the left would rather have BS artists like Hillary.
There´s an internal revolt in the Labor dept.because the interim boss is horrendous.

And look at the laws they pass, really are these a product of common sense? It took me 10 years from the time a graduated high school to get my BS. I attended 4 colleges because I worked fulltime and had a family and went to college when and where I could. I have earned a masters and doctorate since. We can´t become the enemy, we need to be above them, just because they do it to us doesn´t mean we should do it to them. They appointed someone who probably can´t do the job, it proves are point without us getting down into the mud to wrestly.

IIRC -- Joel Pollak and Breitbart to the contrary, Sarah Palin did not attend FIVE colleges, but only two; the University of Hawaii, and the University of Idaho, but it did take her about five years to get her degree, due to the transfer and her need to work her way through college. Too bad everyone accepts Democrat propaganda as the gospel truth.
Incidently, our two greatest presidents, Washington and Lincoln never even got a high school diploma, let alone being anywhere near a college in their youths. For that matter, Harry Truman did not have a college degree. So much for our obsession with credentialism.

It´s amazing what a stint in the military will do for one. Military dicipline can straighten out a lot of people.
I firmly believe that this is one of the major problems confronting this country. Lack of any dicipline in young people. When this country had a draft, young me knew that they were going to have to serve in the military. There were, and still are, many was to forfill their (then) obligation. Now, we don´t have that and, young men especially, wind up droping out of high school and joining gangs and selling drugs on steet corners. And many of them winding up dead because of their choices./rant off

It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
