Against the Ghetto Plantation
American Thinker, by Jeanne Donovan

Original Article

Posted By:magnante, 2/10/2013 2:19:38 PM

If Frederick Douglass walked today´s ghettos, he would witness a new-age style of slavery, plantations without the lash and chains. He would soon be outraged that government overseers are perpetuating generations of dependency through policies designed to capture the votes of the ignorant. Of the people he would ask, "What have you done with your freedom? Where is your dignity and self-respect?"

The amazing truth about this is how it´s motly a white, upper-class, liberal/progressive segment of the Democrat party who rules.
They´re in SF, Seattle, Boston, NYC.

Not really representative of America.

Certainly not inner-city African-Americans.

Excellent article, good analogy. It´s also the reason why Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver and others have been eliminated from text books. Slavery does away with fathers, the modern left knows that better than anyone.

It is now the working people who are the slaves, being forced to pay taxes to a government who uses them to redistribute wealth to the non-working class and political cronies.

Good piece, good subject.

FTA: Douglass warned, "Make a man a slave, and you rob him of moral responsibility. Freedom of choice is the essence of all accountability."

This quote, and the hypothetical questions Donovan offers from Douglass, and the principles involved, are the principles of individual responsibility, which alone can be the foundation of Liberty.

I am reminded of the insight "The fondest wish of a slaive is not freedom but a slave of his own." I can´t provide attribution, as the search engines fell flat on their faces with that one. Sorry.

Note this, and note it well -- all the illustrated ills are the products of the Left. And they all remain, despite all evidence of their destructiveness across the board, the unarguable and Received Wisdom of the Left, that must at all costs be imposed on us all.

Last -- Obama and Douglass would surely be intractable enemies if both lived now.

I beg to differ.
Food stamps, medicaid, obamaphones & how many other taxpayer financed programs chain the recipients to government entities as surely as the massa chained his slaves?
The ´´lash´´ comes out when someone tries to escape the plantation.

It is heartbreaking to see generation after generation of black people return to misery, by "choosing" to follow the liberals "generosity" (welfare, poor schools, affirmative action that taints any hard-earned achievement).

I think that is why it was so overwhelmingly welcome to hear Dr. Carson: finally someone who saw all of the liberal "help" as what it was: chains of bondage, donned by the enslaved.

I hope Dr. Carson is a harbinger of good things to come.

deTocqueville said that when people realized they could vote for people who would give them stuff (he said it more elegantly), they would "put the yokes on their own necks."

The scourge of bondage, physical and moral, has spread rapidly amongst all the races.

Obama´s mentor, the America-hating Communist Frank Marshall Davis, taught Obama that "there is no ´Black Power´ without the black ghetto." He was teaching young Barack to harness the suffering of Black America for Obama´s own personal political power.

Obama doesn´t worry about the ghetto. He grows the ghetto. He nurtures its expansion. So long as he can successfully pit Black America against the rest of the nation, he appears to be their "champion." By helping to enforce failure, he "wins."

The biggest threat to the Democrat Party is a successful, intelligent, independent Black America which succeeds by virtue of intelligence and hard work. Democrats desperately need to keep Black America helpless, hopeless, poorly educated and entirely dependent on the federal government.

God bless and keep Jeanne Donovan for this wonderful article exposing the TRUTH. I hope and pray that one day I will see Black America prosperous, happy, and finally FREE from the Democrat Plantation.

Anyone who supports the democrat party supports freedom. The democrat party has sought to undermine America from it´s founding and enslave people. Today they use welfare and political correctness - limit free speech and now healthcare rules (including death panels) to restrict free people.

FTA: Douglass became so renowned in the campaign to emancipate slaves that Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, invited him to the White House as an adviser.

They developed a close friendship, and eventually Douglas embraced Lincoln´s republicanism: "I am a Republican, a black, dyed in the wool Republican, and I never intend to belong to any other party than the party of freedom and progress."

I agree with the comments above, and with her article in the main. However, she paints the domestic lives of slaves with a broad brush, as if all were immediately taken from their mothers and all slept on the floor without warmth or medical help. Although all slavery is unnatural and thoroughly reprehensible, some slaves were treated better than the author describes, if not out of decency, then because they were valuable property.

I don´t know if the current black culture WANTS to get out of the ghetto.
I have spoken to several black people with decent, well paying jobs-NJ well paying- and they CHOSE to live in inner city Trenton.
To a man, they have told me that they are more comfortable there than they would be in a ´white´ neighborhood(even though in my WN, my neighbors are multi-racial)-no expectations, shared culture etc.....
The rejection of ´white culture´ is total.

California’s state legislature is seeking to repeal an idiotic law that took effect January 1st. The specter of a modern long range jumbo jet suddenly falling from the sky with no distress call suggests horrific causes. Hi, everybody. This week, I traveled to New England, where I was joined by four governors who are working to raise the minimum wage in each of their states. And they’ve also joined me in calling on Congress to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. Because it would give nearly 800,000 Americans in their states a raise — and lift wages for about 28 million across the country. So these governors aren’t waiting for Congress to make up its mind. And in my State of the Union Address, I asked America’s business leaders to go ahead and do what they could to raise their employees’ wages, too.
