Mark Sanford´s confessional campaign
Politico, by Alex Isenstadt

Original Article

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Mark Sanford’s bid for his old congressional seat is equal parts political campaign and confessional tour. The disgraced ex-South Carolina governor is back on the trail seeking forgiveness for the sins that caused his political career to collapse in spectacular fashion four years ago: The mysterious days-long disappearance, the lies about hiking the Appalachian Trail and the extramarital affair with an Argentine woman that splintered the Republican’s picture-perfect family and shattered his presidential aspirations. “I’m not in any way unaware of how I’ve let you down. I’m not in any way unaware

I would be very angry if this man were running in my own state. Heads up, South Carolina.

At this point, both Mr A and I will vote for Sanford over any of the other candidates.

Mrs. Sanford said she was "dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family." Her numerous, graceless TV appearances, press and magazine interviews and her martyristic, "tell-all" book, Staying True, can hardly be considered any part of a "peaceful" process.

If Mrs. Sanford views as "peaceful" the effect of her words on the Sanford sons, who were all young enough to be devastated and confused by her tell-all stance, then I have to question her version of reality and what really led up to the couple´s problems.

There is more to this sad chapter than meets the eye. South Carolinians aren´t stupid, are aware of the facts and quite familiar with the Sanfords. I believe Sanford has a very good chance of winning.

Sanford was a terrible governor - we mustn´t forget that. He is a person who has a psychological need to be in the limelight but he doesn´t understand the meaning of duty and responsibility.

But I predict he will be elected by a landslide - voters today are more concerned with celebrity hood than competence.(see Hillary´s approval numbers.)

I am open to the charge of hypocrisy on this one, having backed serial adulterer Newt Gingrich in the GOP primary, but I generally don´t like guys who cheat on their wives. I especially don´t like guys who leverage their infidelity, and ostentatiously display their penitence, in order to instruct me on my obligations to forgive. No sale, Sanford. Go strangle yourself.

my 1st reaction was "who does this guy think he´s kidding?" But the more I thought about it, it´s up to him, the voters and his family. We don´t know what´s been said or done between Cassanova and his sons. maybe they´ve forgiven him? This is why we have elections. If all candidates were pure and perfect, we would have no candidates.

That narrative has been central to Davis’ appeal as she seeks to translate the national attention from her marathon filibuster in defense of abortion rights last year into votes for her underdog candidacy this year.

Section 1342 of the Affordable Care Act forces taxpayers to make insurers whole for most of the losses incurred selling ObamaCare exchange plans through 2016. Tebow has cashed in on his #NoContract status with a pair of 30-second commercials for T-Mobile set to air during the Super Bowl.
