My long term +50 yr old white postman was recently replaced with 2 young blacks. He did not retire... he was re-assigned as part time against his will.

No ammount of ´innovation´ is going to make people send more mail. We are 1/8 of the way into the 21st century. Things change. The only checks I write and send are gifts, like so many people. It´s over for the PO. As far as I´m concerned, they could go to Mon/Wed/Fri.

Our federal government is seriously flawed. We need to cut sppending. Women, minorities, and children WILL be hurt. (if we don´t)

Cummings is from Md. as is Senator Mikulski who are both patron saints of federal workers.The PO isn´t serious about cutting expenses,cutting out Sat. delivery except for packages is a farce.If a person shows up to deliver one package,my guess is he´ll get paid for the whole day if not overtime on top.

Cummings is no stranger to playing the race card so this is just his MO.

At the end of the day there will be a bailout of the post office under the guise of minorities being hardest hit.

This is really no different than a family being a 1000 bucks a month short and cutting out pizza to solve the problem.

I think that Congress should mandate that all Post Office vehicles get 200 mpg by 2014 and that email be put directly under the control of the Post Office so they can charge a "stamp convenience fee" on every message equal to what we would pay if we physically sent a letter. These "cutting edge innovations" would solve all their problems.

Who ISN´T surprised at the magic words of "minority groups hardest hit"? Cummings must be afraid his own minority group will have to wait until Monday to get their welfare checks.

WHY are whites UNDER represented? According to the census, 72.4% of those employed by the Post Office..actually any federal workforce should be white.

The postal service has been notorious for avoiding any kind of efficiency programs. There are laws that do not let then study what is needed and then implement cost saving plans. The unions want dues payers, not less workers. The system is corrupt with kickbacks, etc. when people get promoted or pay increases. The bosses and unions are rolling in happy dollars from the mailers.

Wait a minute! If minorities are only 40%, that means whites are 60%! So who really gets hurt the most?

Besides, who cares about skin color, as long as the job gets done? (I know, democrats obsess over skin color.)

UPS and FEDEX are examples of much more efficient service, so I say privatize mail delivery and get government out of it!

Good. Maybe now the high rate of theft that has recently become rampant at post office facilities will also be reduced.

Maybe it´s time ´´minority groups and single mothers´´ start pulling their own weight.

Lately, our white mail delivery person has been replaced on many days by a black delivery person. When that happens our mail is frequently delivered to our neighbors and theirs to us. AND the box is left open by her.

I go into a Post Office maybe one or two times a year. I think that half of the staff cannot read. We are still getting mail addressed to the original owner of our home that moved thirteen years ago. I would be happy if we could opt for no junk mail delivery so that mail carriers do not have to work so hard. It goes from mail box to the recycle bin without even opening it. There is a lot of waste in this organization. Cut waste and you could cut costs by 40%.

Here in RDU-land, the demographic makeup is probably 80% "minority."

the psotal service has gone to great lengths to improve efficiency, from the use of barney, a purple colored huge mailing sorter device, to measuring the length of a postal delivery person´s stride.
The central problem right now is that congress, in a flight of fancy, told the postal service that pension plans had to be fully funded immediately - this is the only governmental entity that is required to do so.
The funds in question amount to about 8 bilion dollars, due right now.

I had to send a pkg overnite to a town that was 15 miles from a major US city. I went to the USPS to send the pkg. I was told that the pkg could not be delivered to that town overnite..it was TO FAR AWAY from the city. I had to send the pkg. by UPS. It arrived on time...and the UPS used the same roads that the USPS use. and the cost was 64 dollars...
privatize this USPS..but it wont happen, because Congress ´uses" the service....

There are multiple reasons why the post office should eliminate Saturday delivery. One is being that the mail processing is not there. Today people are using direct pay and e-mail which reduces the delivery of mail. Another is FEDEX and UPS. These two companies are able to ship cheaper. The post office screwed themselves by pandering to the union. People at the post office are being paid mega bucks to sit around (on call). It would not hurt me if they are reduced delivery to three days a week.

The will be "disproportionately hurt" because they were disproportionately hired. It cuts both ways.

With those numbers it really exposes the post office as a massive jobs program for minorities. Is it any wonder then that it is running in the red ?

Cummings thinks being a U.S. representative is to represent black people. He has never said, never done anything, or cares a whit about white people.

Here´s an experiment:
Go to any small-town post office that is under threat of closure. If you don´t know which ones they are, call your Congressman.
Purchase some stamps. The person (the only one there) who cheerfully and efficiently helps you is probably non-union.
Then go to the flagship post office in downtown (14th and L St NW) Washington DC.
Try to purchase some stamps. All the people who flagrantly refuse to help you are union.
Guess which post office will be closed. Guess which post office the USPS is afraid to touch.

Yes, the Postal Service has become the option of working welfare in the big cities. Our downtown plant that is on the way to closure had more that it´s fair share of drunks, no shows, disabled i.e. light or limited duty. Because some of these people are black & women there have been gross violations that would get anyone else fired. It was well known that 2 shift leaders would go down to the River Boat casino on postal time. They did not get fired. People abuse the Family Medical Leave Act - black and white - so much that they have to take leave w/o pay etc.

Rep. Cummings seems to forget that we live in the ´´post-racial´´ world of President Øvomit.

I guarantee you here and now that not one minority or female will loose their job. Not when they actually have some white males that they haven´t already driven out.

So we should never allow minorities to be hired in numbers disproportionate to their population. That way they would not be hurt disproportionately when laid off. What in the world are we doing hiring minorities in such disproportionate numbers anyway. I thought the government was an "equal opportunity employer"? Doesn´t look so to me. Oh. I see. That doesn´t apply to whites!

This article reminds me of the joke about how the NYT would headline news of the end of the world: "End of World Coming, Minorities and Women to Suffer Most".

I live in Maryland and if Mr. Cummings is saying it, he is working some kind of scam to increase his bank account or to increase one of his fellow corrutocrats bank account.
