Cummings: Postal Service cuts would
hurt minority groups, single mothers

The Hill (DC), by Cameron Joseph

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 2/10/2013 4:43:29 AM

The U.S. Postal Service´s decision to eliminate Saturday delivery could disproportionally hurt minority groups, according to Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee. "You´re talking about just this reduction … from six days to five days will cut anywhere from 25,000 to 30,000 employees. And with regard to Asian, African-Americans, and Hispanics, they comprise about 40 percent of the Postal Service employees," Cummings told Melissa Harris-Perry on MSNBC Friday night. "So it´s logical to believe if they were to lose that 30,000 jobs, easily 40 percent of them would be African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asian-Americans."

Comments:
We poke fun at Cummings, but his thinking is simply a cruder version of how Attorney General Eric Holder seems to view the country.

My long term +50 yr old white postman was recently replaced with 2 young blacks. He did not retire... he was re-assigned as part time against his will.

No ammount of ´innovation´ is going to make people send more mail. We are 1/8 of the way into the 21st century. Things change. The only checks I write and send are gifts, like so many people. It´s over for the PO. As far as I´m concerned, they could go to Mon/Wed/Fri.

Cummings is from Md. as is Senator Mikulski who are both patron saints of federal workers. The PO isn´t serious about cutting expenses, cutting out Sat. delivery except for packages is a farce. If a person shows up to deliver one package,my guess is he´ll get paid for the whole day if not overtime on top.

Cummings is no stranger to playing the race card so this is just his MO.

At the end of the day there will be a bailout of the post office under the guise of minorities being hardest hit.

This is really no different than a family being a 1000 bucks a month short and cutting out pizza to solve the problem.

Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the Islamo-Marxist Progressive buffoon waves his magic wand:

"Basically, what the Congress needs to do is do a comprehensive bill whereby we have what we call an innovation officer, which is my idea. And that person would keep the Post Office as cutting edge of innovation and bringing in new ways to of making money"

I think that Congress should mandate that all Post Office vehicles get 200 mpg by 2014 and that email be put directly under the control of the Post Office so they can charge a "stamp convenience fee" on every message equal to what we would pay if we physically sent a letter. These "cutting edge innovations" would solve all their problems.

One reason why across-the-agency salary reductions of 10 percent would be better.

(And 10 percent reduction in benefits)

WHY are whites UNDER represented? According to the census, 72.4% of those employed by the Post Office..actually any federal workforce should be white.
(The United States Census Bureau defines White people as those "having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. It includes people who reported “White” or wrote in entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Lebanese, Near Easterner, Arab, or Polish."[16] Whites constitute the majority of the U.S. population, with a total of 223,553,265 or 72.4% of the population in the 2010 United States Census.

The postal service has been notorious for avoiding any kind of efficiency programs. There are laws that do not let then study what is needed and then implement cost saving plans. The unions want dues payers, not less workers. The system is corrupt with kickbacks, etc. when people get promoted or pay increases. The bosses and unions are rolling in happy dollars from the mailers.

Wait a minute! If minorities are only 40%, that means whites are 60%! So who really gets hurt the most?

Besides, who cares about skin color, as long as the job gets done? (I know, democrats obsess over skin color.)

UPS and FEDEX are examples of much more efficient service, so I say privatize mail delivery and get government out of it!

I go into a Post Office maybe one or two times a year. I think that half of the staff cannot read. We are still getting mail addressed to the original owner of our home that moved thirteen years ago. I would be happy if we could opt for no junk mail delivery so that mail carriers do not have to work so hard. It goes from mail box to the recycle bin without even opening it. There is a lot of waste in this organization. Cut waste and you could cut costs by 40%.

the psotal service has gone to great lengths to improve efficiency, from the use of barney, a purple colored huge mailing sorter device, to measuring the length of a postal delivery person´s stride.
The central problem right now is that congress, in a flight of fancy, told the postal service that pension plans had to be fully funded immediately - this is the only governmental entity that is required to do so.
The funds in question amount to about 8 bilion dollars, due right now.

I had to send a pkg overnite to a town that was 15 miles from a major US city. I went to the USPS to send the pkg. I was told that the pkg could not be delivered to that town overnite..it was TO FAR AWAY from the city. I had to send the pkg. by UPS. It arrived on time...and the UPS used the same roads that the USPS use. and the cost was 64 dollars...
privatize this USPS..but it wont happen, because Congress ´uses" the service....

There are multiple reasons why the post office should eliminate Saturday delivery. One is being that the mail processing is not there. Today people are using direct pay and e-mail which reduces the delivery of mail. Another is FEDEX and UPS. These two companies are able to ship cheaper. The post office screwed themselves by pandering to the union. People at the post office are being paid mega bucks to sit around (on call). It would not hurt me if they are reduced delivery to three days a week.

Here´s an experiment:
Go to any small-town post office that is under threat of closure. If you don´t know which ones they are, call your Congressman.
Purchase some stamps. The person (the only one there) who cheerfully and efficiently helps you is probably non-union.
Then go to the flagship post office in downtown (14th and L St NW) Washington DC.
Try to purchase some stamps. All the people who flagrantly refuse to help you are union.
Guess which post office will be closed. Guess which post office the USPS is afraid to touch.

Yes, the Postal Service has become the option of working welfare in the big cities. Our downtown plant that is on the way to closure had more that it´s fair share of drunks, no shows, disabled i.e. light or limited duty. Because some of these people are black & women there have been gross violations that would get anyone else fired. It was well known that 2 shift leaders would go down to the River Boat casino on postal time. They did not get fired. People abuse the Family Medical Leave Act - black and white - so much that they have to take leave w/o pay etc.

What in the world are we doing hiring minorities in such disproportionate numbers anyway. I thought the government was an "equal opportunity employer"? Doesn´t look so to me. Oh. I see. Last month, The Wall Street Journal gave us quite a scare. "The U.S. could suffer a coast-to-coast blackout if saboteurs knocked out just nine of the country´s 55,000 electric-transmission substations on a scorching summer day," Rebecca Smith wrote. It´s no secret that North America´s three massive power grids, the interconnected systems that transmit electricity from power plants to consumers, are not invincible. The U.S. power grid is, in fact, big enough to fail. In other words, the grid may be not be the "right" size—big enough to distribute power efficiently, but small enough to prevent widespread blackouts, such as the 2003 blackout that

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush said Sunday that many who illegally come to the United States do so out of an "act of love" for their families and should be treated differently than people who illegally cross U.S. borders or overstay visas. The comments came during an event marking the 25th anniversary of the presidency of George H. W. Bush at the library and museum that bears the name of the Bush patriarch.

Kathryn Riffenburg decided on a closed casket for her baby´s funeral. She didn´t want her family to see what whooping cough, her son´s first illness, had done to 9-week-old Brady Alcaide. The nearly forgotten disease, which has in recent years afflicted thousands of Americans, left Brady´s tiny body swollen and unrecognizable. So his mother dressed him in a white baptismal suit and hat and tucked him into a tiny white casket. Brady´s burial came just four weeks after his first laugh — inspired by her version of I´m a Little Teapot — and two weeks after his family learned that he had

Rev. Al Shaprton, the controversial civil rights leader-turned-broadcaster, was a confidential FBi informant for years and helped the feds put members of the Genovese and Gambino organized crime families behind bars, it was revealed Monday in a sensational exposé. President Barack Obama will speak this week for the second time at the annual meeting of Sharpton´s National Action Network, raising questions about the group´s special treatment. Sharpton´s special relationship with the Justice Department may also explain why his NAN has been allowed to skirt responsibility for $1.9 million in back taxes and penalties it has owed the IRS since 2006

Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing

When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. He even secretly taped some of those wiseguys using a briefcase that FBI technicians outfitted

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

A married freshman Republican congressman who campaigned on his Christian, conservative values apologized Monday after surveillance video surfaced purportedly showing him in a lengthy liplock with a staffer. In the Dec. 23 footage, obtained by a local newspaper, Rep. Vance McAllister, R-La. - who ahead of his election last fall ran multiple campaign ads trumpeting his faith and family - is seen kissing and embracing a woman for about 20 seconds at his Monroe, La., district office. The Ouachita Citizen reports the woman is the congressman´s 33-year-old part-time scheduler, who is also married.

Call it the million-worker mystery. A large chunk of American adults are no longer in the labor force. That has left economists divided over how many of them are voluntarily not working-or even looking for work-because they wanted to retire, go to school or take care of family members, versus how many have been forced out because they couldn´t find a job. (snip) Shierholz estimates that there are currently more than 5 million missing workers who are not included in the unemployment rate because they are neither working nor looking for work, but who might be if the job market

The Democratic National Committee is furious by a conservative website’s ad campaign that depicts Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi clad in a bikini in a provocative pose with her tongue sticking out. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, called on Republicans to press Breitbart News to remove the artwork — one of several suggestive images on the website promoting the new California site. The image of Pelosi, beneath one of California Gov. Jerry Brown’s face photo-shopped onto a flexing body builder, includes the sub-head: “Because you can’t make this s— up.” “To say the least,

Add Bryan Cranston, the star of TV´s recent hit "Breaking Bad" and a new Broadway play about former President Lyndon B. Johnson, to Team Obamacare. In an interview with Yahoo News “global anchor” Katie Couric, the actor called Obamacare the highlight of President Obama´s legacy. “Now’s the time to stake a claim to leave your legacy,” he encouraged Obama. “I personally believe that his health care program is fantastic. Yes, there are problems. Anything worth while is going to go through a growing pains period. But this is his legacy and I think it’s a great one because I don’t
