| President Barack Obama will focus his State of the Union address on boosting job creation and economic growth at a time of high unemployment, underscoring the degree to which the economy could threaten his ability to pursue second-term priorities such as gun control, immigration policy and climate change. Obama also may use Tuesday´s prime-time address before a joint session of Congress to announce the next steps for concluding the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan by the end of 2014. Obama´s State of the Union marks his second high-profile speech to the nation in about three weeks, after his

I saw Ken Langone on a business show recently. He is one of the founders of Home Depot.
Langone said that Home Depot was as the right time, not possible to start that company now. He explained that provisions in Sarbanes Oxley prohibit the type of stock incentive used to get the company started. Company currently has 331,000 employees.
Any politician who is not willing to review bad legislation (like SarBox, obamacare or FinReg) is bald face lying when they say they are focusing on jobs. And I mean you obama.

Re: Tony Fratto, who worked in the White House during President George W. Bush´s second term, said.... "We´re not in a position where Obama can blame anybody else for the economy now," Fratto said, "Now it´s his eccomy."
Fratto treats Obama as normal. Obama is a narcisst who lacks the personal responsibility trait. He can never accept blame or admit fault. Obama will once again note the mess he inherited and how it takes 4 to 5 terms in office to recover from the things Booosh, and now the GOP, have done. "Therefore, I will issue an executive order suspending the 22nd Amendment as well as the 1st and 2nd Amendments since they were written by old white men who owned slaves."

He´ll say whatever he needs to say to keep fooling enough of the people all the time.
1% growth? Are you kidding me?
Our trade deficit is shrinking because we are pumping more of our own oil not because the economy is improving. We are even selling some overseas.
Why aren´t we taking advantage of the $20/barrel cost-savings and ensuring we all have cheap gasoline?
Democrats don´t want cheap gasoline.

The so called -0.1% ´growth´ reported last quarter is worse than reported. If anyone noticed they used an inflation number of 0.6% to calculate that number. If you use even the ´cooked´ 2% inflation then the real number is -1.5%.

This speech will be designed to seem "reasonable" to fool as many low information voters as possible, because by now, most people recognize that it is not what Obama says, but that it is what he actually does that is important, and those two factors are usually as different as apples and oranges.

BO could state in his State of the Union address that he has no intention of going after Muslims in the Benghazi executions, will cut all defense by 75%, increase federal government wages and salaries by 75%, free all Gitmo prisoners and give them automatic US citizenship, confiscate all property and assets of anyone makeing over $1,000,000, criminalize all private and parochial schools, allow cities to impose Sharia law, and overturn the 2nd Amendment and he would not only receive a 45 minute standing ovation, his popularity vote would rise 85%, and he would win another peace prize.

And we can reduce our deficit, stabilize our debt, and do so without sacrificing the kinds of investments that are going to be required to grow. During his remarks, the president spoke of the

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. The wrong name, he warned, could doom a good bill. “If there´s not a

President Obama is eager to build public support for his health care overhaul in the few months remaining before its implementation, but waning enthusiasm from Democrats threatens his effort right out of the gate. Two-thirds of Democrats now believe Obama´s health care reforms will either hurt them personally or have no effect on their daily lives, a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows. In comparison, just 27 percent of Democratic respondents said the reforms would help them. The president has long struggled to convince independent and Republican-leaning voters that his health care blueprint would lower premiums and expand insurance coverage.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
