Good stuff here, but his one is ridiculous
9) We have stopped breaking up monopolies in this country ...
The only dangerous monopoly is the U.S. government. All private companies. You can even switch electric providers. Whatever happened to Xerox, Eastman Kodak, RCA, etc. Near monopolies in their day.
In the 1990´s some loopy lawsuit claimed that Microsoft had a "monopoly". In the years since, Apple has been eating their lunch. BTW, the MSFT lawsuit was finally dropped when the rumor mill said that Bill Gates was thinking about moving the entire operation to Vancouver. So the FEDS dropped the lawsuit only when they thought tax revs might go down. They don´t even have any real principles.
The clearest manifestation of the country spinning at an ever increasing rate down the drain is the fact that even the Amish are splitting into factions and physically committing attacks resulting in 15 years in jail. Amish attacking Amish...who would ever dream?
How about a list of ways to fix it? When will people say, "Enough" or will they ever? It´s all so enticing to continue on this path, but the end result will be like every other failed attempt at socialism.
FTA 4) Leeching off more productive people has become much more acceptable. To many people, taking welfare, food stamps, free lunches and anything else they can get the government to force someone else to pay for isn´t shameful; it´s deserved, presumably because they´re doing everyone else in the country such a wonderful favor just by existing.
They don´t see this as someone else paying, although I´m not sure that would matter. It´s just "government money".
Had my stepson age 28 ask me how much I was getting back on my tax return. I, small biz owner, told him that I was one of the lucky ones who got to send in a fat check. Stepson, his wife, and a couple of cousins simultaneously displayed an expression normally reserved for people who tell them the sky is green.
Forgot to mention that the left (Democrats) has been on the attack upon anything good, traditional or sacred for decades. When they demand "compromise" it is simply trying to force 1/2 of their evil and self destructive policies upon us. When they have the power we get 100% of it. We are now entering the phase where it all finally begins to collapse. Evil always advances, never recedes, until it falls in upon itself. It´s coming!
It´s all been going on for a lot longer than many newly conservative realize. I´ve been on a kick of watching Hollywood pre-code and through the 40´s and 50´s. Though a lot of it was great and taught real values, there were also a great many movies that "pushed the envelope" in every new release. The goal posts were just in a far different place when they started the cultural tear-down, but it really began almost 100 years ago with the long march of socialism. The attempts to seem "edgy" and to turn traditional values on their head were the same, though the subject matter was different in each new instance. What truly enrages me is the constant drumbeat against the free market, capitalism, the private sector. It´s been seeping out of Hollywood since the day they turned the first cameras on; and this after TinselTown owes every iota of its success to that market.
During his Wednesday appearance on Jay Leno´s "Tonight Show,´ President Obama made three factual gaffes; one of them involved the claim that cities not found along the Gulf of Mexico are. Were Obama a Republican, these gaffes would have led news coverage for the next forty-eight hours. Not only did most of the media ignore or downplay these gaffes; the Associated Press went so far as to cover one of them up. In its coverage Thursday, rather than point out the president´s geographical error, the wire service made it look as though no error was made.
Citizens United president David Bossie told Breitbart News that about 2,000 citizens showed up at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa Saturday to hear from conservative leaders like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and real estate mogul Donald Trump. “Mr. Trump just got a standing ovation,” Bossie, a sponsor of the event, said in a phone interview from the site as Trump wrapped up his speech on Saturday night. “I would say there were 2,000 attendees today. This is real. In Ames, Iowa, for 2,000 people to show up on a Saturday in August
With their mops of hair, cheeky grins and expressions of wide-eyed innocence, they´re the new double act ready to delight fans of Downton Abbey when the much-anticipated fourth series starts next month. Identical twins Logan and Cole Weston have joined the cast of the blockbuster period drama – but you´ll never see them on screen together. The twin brothers will share the task of playing little George Crawley, the son of Lady Mary and her late husband Matthew – who met a sticky end in a car crash in last season´s Christmas finale.
The Marine Corps on Saturday said MV-22 Ospreys were deployed for the first time in support of a presidential flight aboard Marine One. Marine Helicopter Squadron One, the military unit responsible for transporting President Obama and top administration officials, said in a statement that the premiere combat aircraft carried White House staff members, reporters and Secret Service agents during a flight to Martha’s Vineyard. The aircraft, built by Bell-Boeing, is designed to take off and land like a helicopter and fly like a fixed-wing plane. Marine Helicopter Squadron One, based in Quantico, Va.,
EDGARTOWN, Mass. — President Barack Obama opened the first summer vacation of his second term Saturday on Martha’s Vineyard, trading Washington debates over the budget, government surveillance and his health care overhaul for a hoped-for carefree week filled with golf, beach outings and hanging-out time with family and friends. (Snip) As Air Force One flew north, Obama got into a vacation mindset by trading his suit and tie for more suitable attire: khakis and a blue shirt with rolled-up sleeves. First lady Michelle Obama, who introduced him at the convention, kept her yellow-and-white
I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for the sudden, mysterious appearance at the site of a car accident in Missouri of a priest who prayed with the teenage victim of the wreck, comforting the youngster and the responders until it became possible to rescue her. Despite the fact that the police had blocked the highway for three miles in each direction and weren’t letting anyone through and that none of the 80 pictures taken at the scene by the rescuers showed the priest in any of them, there’s an easy explanation for the priest’s presence that we’re all missing, right? Right?
Two men were killed and another eight people wounded in shootings all over the city Friday night and Saturday morning. One of the dead men, 21, was shot just east of the intersection of 79th Streets and Yates Boulevard in the South Chicago neighborhood. He was shot "multiple times" about 4 a.m., police said. The man was identified as Jacoby Herron of the 7900 block of South Oglesby Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner´s office. Herron was pronounced dead at the scene. The other, an 18-year-old man, was shot in the 6800 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue in the
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid appeared on radio station KNPR on Friday and spent a good amount of time talking about unprecedented Republican obstruction in Congress. In response to a caller’s question about conservatives hoping for Obama’s failure at the outset, Reid brought up Mitch McConnell‘s one-term-for-Obama pledge, and said of Republicans opposing practically everything Obama does, “I hope that it’s based on substance, not the fact that he’s an African-American.” Reid was quickly and roundly condemned, with a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee calling
President Barack Obama urged military veterans to defend his signature health-care law and press Republican lawmakers to end budget cuts that threaten future spending on benefits. In remarks to the Disabled American Veterans National Convention in Orlando, Florida, Democrat Obama said critics of the health insurance expansion that he championed are spreading “misinformation.” Veterans benefits won’t be affected by the Affordable Care Act, he said. “Don’t let them fool you: no one’s taking away your benefits,” Obama said. “If you already have health insurance or health care from the VA, you do not have to do a thing.”
WASHINGTON —Another one of President Obama’s golfing pals is in the rough. Dr. Eric Whitaker, a longtime Obama friend from Chicago who has golfed his way through Obama’s term in office — including at a round for the president’s 52nd birthday last week — is cooperating with the feds as they probe a $433,000 kickback scheme. Whitaker’s former chief of staff at the Illinois Health Department is under investigation for allegedly taking kickbacks starting in 2006. Whitaker ran the department from 2003 to 2007. A federal grand jury indicted Quinshaunta Golden this week on fraud, bribery and theft charges
The media-created mommy wars haven’t just jumped the shark and entered the realm of “Sharknado.” Where women once debated ways to balance family-and-career — a hyphenated oxymoron if ever there was one — they’re now clashing over whether having babies is really all that. To bear children or not — that is the only question left to those with first-world problems. The scene: A tidy beach where a young couple is basking, carefree. How lovely. No little ones to intrude upon the perfect union of two selves entwined in rapturous indulgence.
Life may get harsher and hungrier for nearly three million people in Pennsylvania and New Jersey on Nov. 1, when food-stamp benefits will be cut overnight for the first time in U.S. history. It will mean 21 lost meals per month for a family of four - devastating arithmetic for families already living either on the edge or within the abyss of poverty, according to experts on food stamps, now called SNAP for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Why now? The federal stimulus of 2009 had temporarily boosted SNAP benefits to combat the recession. But the increase ends on Halloween,
The owner of a shop in Zurich where US talk show host Oprah Winfrey says she encountered racism has called the incident a "misunderstanding". Winfrey, one of the world´s richest women, claimed an assistant refused to serve her in an upmarket handbag shop. She was apparently told one of the bags on display was "too expensive" for her. Shop owner Trudie Gotz told the BBC that Winfrey was "absolutely allowed" to look at the $35,000 (£22,500) bag, which was kept behind a screen. "My salesperson wanted to give her the handbag in her hand. But she didn´t want
Nobody tells Oprah she can´t afford a handbag. Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest entertainers in the world, thanks to her willdly successful 25-season run on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and her latest media foray with the newly revitalized Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The entertainer earned an estimated $77 million from June 2012 to June 2013 alone, according to Forbes, but she says she still experiences racism because she is African American. Take this latest incident in Switzerland, where "The Butler" star went to attend the nuptials of good friend and singer Tina Turner last month.
At a White House press conference Friday afternoon, President Obama said that health insurance plans offered under Obamacare will be "significantly cheaper" than plans currently on the market, but a string of recent reports say that isn´t true. "What happens on October 1, in 53 days, is for the remaining 15 percent of the population that doesn´t have health insurance, they´re going to be able to go on a website or call up a call center and sign up for affordable, quality health insurance at a significantly cheaper rate than what they can get right now on
The Washington Post is a legend in the minds of the Washington elite, so its financial decline has caused quiet panic. As NPR media reporter David Folkenflik put it, “You think of stories like the Pentagon Papers, Watergate, these are all stories where The Washington Post led the nation’s understanding, the world’s understanding of some major issues.” Outside the liberal media, you wonder how long Post fans can wallow in their Nixon-crumbling polyester “glory days” in the early 1970s. But nostalgia ruled as the Graham family sold the Post to Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon.com.
While media mogul Oprah Winfrey has been promoting her new film, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” she revealed she was a recent victim of profiling while shopping in a store in Zurich.(Snip)“I was in Zurich the other day at a store, whose name I will not mention,” Winfrey said on “Entertainment Tonight,” “and I didn’t have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear…but obviously, ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ is not shown in Zurich. So this doesn’t happen to me unless somebody obviously doesn’t know that it’s me.” Winfrey went on to explain that she was in Zurich for Tina Turner’s wedding,
Tonight, I went on Lawrence O´Donnell´s show, and Lawrence O´Donnell yelled at me. Or, rather, he O´Reilly´d at me. That O´Donnell interrupted and harangued and mansplained and was generally an angry grandpa at me is not what I take issue with, however. What bothers me is that, look: your producers take the time to find experts to come on the show, answer your questions, and, hopefully, clarify the issue at hand.
“IQ is a metric of such dubiousness that almost no serious educational researcher uses it anymore,” the Guardian’s Ana Marie Cox wrote back in May. It was a breathtakingly ignorant statement. Psychologist Jelte Wicherts noted in response that a search for “IQ test” in Google’s academic database yielded more than 10,000 hits — just for the year 2013. (Snip) There is a large discrepancy between what educated laypeople believe about cognitive science and what experts actually know. Journalists are steeped in the lay wisdom, so they are repeatedly surprised when someone forthrightly discusses the real science of mental ability.
The Clintons have decided to rent a different house in the Hamptons this summer after they only received a small portion of their security deposit back from the home they rented last year. The famous Democrats have been frequent visitors to the expensive summer getaway in Long Island, and rented the same beachfront house in 2011 and 2012. [Snip] When it comes to rentals in the Hamptons, many owners use the security deposits as a way to pay for the utility fees like heat and grounds-keeping charges. It should be little surprise then that the Lily Pond Lane home
Justice: The wife of a Fort Hood survivor claims the Defense Department is "slapping victims with gag orders" and telling family members not to talk to the press following testimony in the trial of Nidal Hasan. One of the great scandals of the Obama administration has been its shameful designation of the Nov. 5, 2009, rampage at the Army base in Killeen, Texas, by Maj. Nidal Hasan as "workplace violence." It has only compounded the pain and suffering of the victims and their families who have now apparently been ordered to shut up about it.
Forty to 50 House Republicans will support immigration reform, Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) predicted Thursday. Gutiérrez said many of the Republicans supportive of immigration reform don’t want to be identified, but he insisted they would support comprehensive immigration reform. “If they ask me today, go find those 40 to 50 Republicans, I’ll tell them I found them. I know where they’re at,” Gutiérrez said in an interview with Ed O’Keefe at The Washington Post.
President Barack Obama announced Friday afternoon that the White House will publicly release a summary of the legal authorities through which the National Security Agency conducts its controversial surveillance programs. ´Given the history of abuse by governments,´ he said, it is important to explain how such a program is managed, and - equally important - what it may not do. He described his working relationship with Vladimir Putin as ´candid´ and ´blunt,´ and seemed to dismiss concerns that the Russian president´s body language indicated a lack of willingness to work with the United States.
Middle and high school students in San Diego, California will be encouraged to vent their frustration that the world lacks justice when they return to school and participate in the “Trayvon Martin dialogues” this fall. The board of San Diego Unified Schools unanimously approved a proposal recently to establish classroom forums to discuss the death of Trayvon Martin, a black teenager who was shot during an altercation with a Hispanic man, George Zimmerman, in Florida last year. A jury recently acquitted Zimmerman, who claimed that Martin struck first and shot him in self-defense.
