| Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued a statement on Thursday signaling to the Obama Administration that the bishops will not make a separate deal to exempt Catholic institutions from an Obamacare mandate that requires health-care plans to cover sterilizations, contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs that leaves lay Catholic business owners and individual employees still subject to the mandate. “In obedience to our Judeo-Christian heritage, we have consistently taught our people to live their lives during the week to reflect the same beliefs

Ummm, it wasn´t only lay Catholics that are being forced to act against their faith with Obama´s latest proposal. It was also that all Catholic schools, universities, hospitals, nursing homes, Catholic Charities(i.e. anything that wasn´t actually a church)would not be exempted, and would be forced to cover contraceptives, sterilization, and abortifacients.

As a Catholic I would like to ask...Where are the evangelical Christians? Are they standing up against zippy´s unconstitutional mandates? I haven´t heard or seen anything indicating that they are. Shouldn´t they be?

#3, then you haven´t heard of Hobby Lobby? And then there is Texas Christian, Wheaton, Colorado Christian, ......there are a number of Protestant and Evangelical colleges suing over the mandate. As a Catholic who is very concerned over this violation of our First Amendment rights, I´ve kept a close eye what our other Christian brothers are doing.

I hope the Bishops find strength to fight this difficult battle. I would suggest they watch videos of the late Bishop Sheen and study his writings. I think he would have taken to the streets in protest to this Obamanation, and burned up the airwaves.

I keep waiting for the bishops to fold, their politics have been pretty left/lib over the course of my lifetime. So far I am pleasantly surprised. Keep it up!

Even as the mandated sequester bites into U.S. federal spending -- and newly appointed Secretary of State John Kerry boasts that he is cutting his budget by 6 percent -- the State Department is planning to boost spending on the United Nations in 2014 by more than 4 percent to at least $3.6 billion. That is likely to be far from the final tally of Obama Administration support, as hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. development, health and other funds are usually channeled through U.N. agencies and institutions --

Albany Think like a Nazi, the assignment required students. Argue why Jews are evil. Students in some Albany High School English classes were asked this week as part of a persuasive writing assignment to make an abhorrent argument: "You must argue that Jews are evil, and use solid rationale from government propaganda to convince me of your loyalty to the Third Reich!" Students were asked to watch and read Nazi propaganda, then pretend their teacher was a Nazi government official who needed to be convinced of their loyalty. In five paragraphs, they were required to prove that

Newsmax says there is a reason progressives like former Obama Green Jobs Czar Van Jones are so incensed about a new biography chronicling the life of presidential strategist-turned-Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes: he is “the man Obama fears the most.” “To say that the president hates Fox News may be an understatement,” writes Newsmax in a book review of Roger Ailes: Off Camera by Zev Chafets. “Early in his first term Obama actually sought to ban Fox News from the White House press corps, ripping away its press credential.” Chafets, who received unprecedented access to Ailes

On Thursday, in the midst of ongoing national debate over prospective gun control and comprehensive immigration legislation, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said that he didn’t need the approval of a majority of his own party to move forward with legislation. Referring to the so-called Hastert Rule, named after former House Speaker Denny Hastert (R-IL), which dictated that House leadership not bring up any bill for a vote without the support of a majority of the majority party, Boehner said, “Listen: It was never a rule to begin with.” Then, realizing the gravity of admitting

Fox´s Glee, hardly shy about tackling social issues, featured a school shooting in last night´s episode. The story gave show creator Ryan Murphy the chance to use one of the show´s main characters to deliver a speech attacking critics of President Barack Obama efforts on new gun control legislation. The April 11 episode featured a pair of gunshots heard in the school, forcing students to run for cover, text notes to their loved ones and even record short video statements in case they didn´t survive.

Two congressional Republicans want to end, once and for all, the attempts of atheist groups and others to remove religious symbols from war memorials. Rep. Duncan Hunter of California and Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina on Thursday introduced the “War Memorial Protection Act,” which they say will create a “foundation in federal law” for public veterans’ and war memorials that include crosses or similar items. “It is our duty to honor our veterans and their families, and American military memorials around the world stand as testaments to their sacrifice,” Mr. Burr said in a statement.

President Obama’s budget doesn’t just go after wealthy Americans. It’s also got new taxes on vodka, cigarettes and other unexpected items, ABC News reported. The fiscal 2014 spending plan, which looks to raise about $1.8 trillion in new revenue, also tackles golf courses, which can no longer be counted as partial tax write-offs, according to ABC. The budget also eliminates special tax breaks for flavored alcohols. In a bizarre tax loophole, distillers are able to deduct up to 2.5 percent of alcohol in flavor mixes from spirit taxes, ABC said. That loophole would be closed in the

Buried deep in President Obama´s Fiscal Year 2014 budget is a new mandate requiring the states to include parental visitation arrangements in child support orders, the same way custody arrangements are typically settled in divorce cases. The goal is to give noncustodial parents more time with the children who do not live with them. "Recognizing that healthy families need more than just financial support alone, the proposal requires states to include parenting time provisions in initial child support orders," says the budget justification for the Department of Health and Human Services. ("Parenting time" is government-speak for "visitation.")

Marco Rubio is preparing to go all in to support sweeping immigration legislation, offering himself up as the public face of a bill that will split the Republican Party — but that his allies hope will propel him to the front of the GOP presidential sweepstakes. After offering lukewarm support until now, Rubio is preparing to fully embrace a measure that is the most significant of his political career so far. The gambit could pay off in spades by crowning a leading presidential contender in 2016, or it could permanently damage the Republican’s brand with conservatives.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- The mystery of "Watterson-Gate" may now be revealed. A Jefferson County Democratic Party official alleged Thursday that two men affiliated with the liberal SuperPAC Progress Kentucky, Shawn Reilly and Curtis Morrison, bragged about secretly recording a private McConnell campaign meeting on February 2. "Why they did it, I didn´t know anything like that. They just got overwhelmed and recorded it," said Jacob Conway, a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Party Executive Committee. "Mr. Reilly is completely innocent of any criminal wrongdoing," countered Ted Shouse, Reilly´s attorney.

He’s not working on his J,” Touré insisted. “He is working on his problems of the nation.” As the rest of the panel laughed at his analysis, Touré continued to defend his position. “He’s also a man of the people, out there like you know, opening the people’s house and having a good time with some American citizens,”

In 2011, the journalist Mara Hvistendahl published Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men, detailing the societal effects of sex-selective abortions that target women the world over and resulted in the absence of perhaps more than 100 million girls who by now should have been born. But Hvistendahl soon learned the downside to uncovering what many believe to be a shocking trend in human rights offenses: people will want to do something about it. And so she lashed out, declaring that “anti-abortion activists

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
