Republican governors embrace part of health-care law

| Several Republican governors have embraced a key pillar of President Obama’s health-care law: Extending Medicaid to 17 million Americans. Many Republicans balked at the expansion when the Supreme Court made the Medicaid expansion optional in its ruling last in the summer. Supporters of the law worried that the opposition could undermine the entire health-care overhaul by shrinking the pool of Americans who would gain coverage. But six Republican governors have since come to back the program, including Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday and Ohio’s John Kasich on Monday. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer announced her support in mid-January.

We´re broke so the lure of more Federal dollars makes sense how? What happens in a couple of years when our bankrupt Federal goobernment cuts the Hades out of its giveaway bucks? This is what happens when Rebublicans decide to goober like Dems/Socialist/fascist. One doesn´t ahve to have a 3rd grade education to see this train wre3ck about to happen.

If we Ohioans can convince our legislature to not go along with Kasich, maybe we can avoid this fiasco. We all know the money will soon be taken away, and our state taxes will go up to compensate for it. Stop this madness - fight Obamacare with every fiber of your beings, Republican! What is so hard to understand about this?

Brewer in AZ is a particular surprise. AZ went through a similar Medicaid expansion when tobacco settlement money was offered. Well, the money ran out and AZ ran up a 2 BILLION dollar deficit and had to rob all kinds of programs before they were able to kick a lot of people off Medicaid and restore order.
So, Brewer thinks she has a plan to trigger a similar purge of Medicaid when Federal money runs out.
It is really sad to see people falling for the bribes when they are being bribed with their own money.

Republicans need to realize that this is now the law of the land. We may not like it, and we fought the good fight, but it is the law. It went to the Supremes; it is fixed. Talk of repeal is not going to go anywhere; the last election sealed that path. It will go into action whether we like it or not.
Future Congresses can make changes to it, but it isn´t going to be fully repealed. Sort of like the talk of reforming Social Security; nobody talks of repealing Social Security. Once ingrained, that isn´t an option.
So the Republican governors need to figure out how to best work with the law in the context of the citizens of their states.

#8, Jim Crow laws were laws of the land too. The Supreme Court upheld Dred Scott as constitutional, too. Neither were right and neither were permament.
ACA will remain in effect only if we allow ourselves to give up the fight against it both at the state and federal level.

Can someone answer this? Is the acceptance of these federal Medicaid dollars incestously intertwined with a state´s agreement to participate with the Healthcare Exchange? Does one taking the money also mean you are locked into the Exchange? Are not many strings attached about how you are allowed to use the money? What are all the restrictions/requirements to acceping these booby trapped dollars?

No, # 8, we did not fight the good fight. We were sucker punched and, instead of sweeping their legs out from under them, we laid there, trying to prove we were good sports.

Chevy Volt sales are cranking up. General Motors sold three times as many Chevrolet Volts in 2012 as it did in 2011, which was the car´s first full year on the market. GM sold 23,461 Volts in 2012 compared with just 7,671 in 2011. While it´s an impressive jump, the Volt is still one of Chevy´s lowest-selling cars. However, the Volt greatly outdid the Corvette, for instance, of which only 14,000 were sold last year.

Mitt Romney strayed from his own campaign’s talking points during a “reset” rally with running mate Paul Ryan today in Ohio. In the midst of remarks otherwise ridiculing the president’s tax record, Romney said: “I admit this, [President Obama] has one thing he did not do in his first four years — he’s said he’s going to do in the next four years, which is to raise taxes.” Behind him, Ryan appeared to wince at the mention.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year’s Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News. The letter from the group, “Special Operations Speaks,” supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. “Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. Information detailing what happened before, during and Headline corrected.
