Traditional Southern diet, stroke
may be linked, researcher says

Los Angeles Times, by Mary MacVean

Traditional Southern diets may be linked to a higher risk of stroke, a researcher said at a conference on Thursday. The lead researcher, Suzanne Judd, a nutritional epidemiologist at the University of Alabama, said her study is the first large-scale effort to look at stroke and a diet of such foods as fried chicken and fish, bacon, ham and sweet teas. “Fatty foods are high in cholesterol, sugary drinks are linked to diabetes and salty foods lead to high blood pressure,” Judd said in a statement. Those are all factors in the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Duh, no [expletive deleted], Sherlock. This is a diet for the turn-of-the-century sharecropper.

In twenty-first century America, you better be bustin´ your butt all day if you plan to eat like this. Or have a well-worn gym membership card.

But culinary tradition dies hard. I know. Most of my family has Southern roots. We try to keep it to one day a week, but sometimes... well, you know.

Nutritional epidemiologist? Is that a joke?

This physician says eat whatever you want, just not so much of it. Get a little exercise and don´t smoke.

The vast majority of our illnesses are self inflicted. Nearly all the medicines we take are unnecessary. Most of our dollars spent on "prevention" are a waste.

Suzanne Judd needs to stop picking on fried chicken because it is delicious.

How dare anyone pass judgment on what I or my family decides to put on our table! This is yet another sign of Obamawannajihad trying to take control of real American´s lives.

Sounds like the latest chapter in the left´s war on the south.I guess this idiot thinks everyone north of the Mason/Dixon line are healthy eaters and don´t cost the government a dime in healthcare costs.

All the things this woman talks about are conventional wisdom things that´s been around for years. There´s things taken as truth because they´ve been repeated so many times. Everybody´s body is different and tolerates different things at different levels.

I´ve been smoking over 40 years and according to health wisdom,I should have been dead before I was born. You know every cigarette takes 10 minutes off your life. The left says second hand smoke kills people, yet we see Chinese in absolute horrible smog conditions, still walking around.

Somehow,in the left´s mind, the south is responsible for all this country´s problems when it´s really urbanites in general.

If this woman wanted to do constructive research, she should study the Amish lifestyle. How can they live in the same country as everybody else and have little or no disease or obesity problems?

Gay marriage is an issue of equality that fulfills America’s founding principles, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said during Wednesday’s press briefing. Earnest was responding to a reporter who asked whether President Obama feels his stance on gay marriage has “cleared the way” for others to support it publicly, noting Sen. Portman’s decision to support gay marriage earlier this month after his son announced he was gay.

To put it plainly, the press briefing intending to indicate how President Barack Obama thinks about Israel on the eve of his trip here was a combination of fantasy and insult. It is likely that the Obama administration made such statements for show — to persuade the Arabic-speaking world that the United States is striving for peace, is not acting like a puppet (or should one say “ally”?) of Israel, and is using its influence to change Israeli policy even as it does nothing of the sort.
