Crackdown coming on South
Side Irish Parade brawling

A Southwest Side alderman’s plan to prevent a return of rampant drunken misbehavior at the South Side Irish Parade moved a step closer to approval Thursday. Ald. Matthew O´Shea´s proposal would stiffen penalties for violations near a parade route. The annual Irish-themed parade was canceled for two years following a series of fights and arrests in the neighborhood around the parade route on South Western Avenue. The parade returned last year as an event organizers termed more “family friendly,” and O´Shea hopes to keep it that way. Under O´Shea´s plan, maximum fines for having open liquor on the street and public

I have read that the Irish in Ireland are amused and perplexed with the drunken revelry associated with St. Patrick´s Day in the United States.
Apparently, St. Patrick´s Day celebrations in Ireland are relatively low key.

Chicago Police dont know how to handle a crowd. In New Orleans where there are no open container laws police manage to maintain order with over a million people out and about during Mardi Gras with only 33 arrests over a 5 day period. Most people know to listen to what the officer says and don´t @#ck up.

As a product of South Side Irish parents I think that these accusations that come around every year are very racist and I think I will sue someone. I´m sure the Gay Pride parade attendees are angels.

It´s called the SS Parade to differenciate it from the official Chicago St. Patrick´s Day parade. It was started by the kids of the biggest Irish neighborhoods in the city. BTW..very White areas. It´s always fun, but was ruined by goofballs (mostly outsiders) who saw it as an excuse to drink all day and be obnoxious.

While I´ll admit we have a few among us those who can put away a pint with ease...I´ll fight anyone who labels us all as drunks.

White men, Catholics/Christians and Fat people and the Irish...insult them all...but keep your mouth shut about everyone else.

The federal committee crafting the 2015 “Dietary Guidelines for Americans” features radical nutritionists who favor Americans moving to “plant-based” diets and a vice chair that laughs about sending Ronald McDonald to the guillotine. The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) is responsible for creating new nutrition standards that are used to create policy at the federal level. The committee will meet for the third time on Friday, and though the group has not yet released an agenda, past meetings have heavily focused on climate change. Earlier this week, Senator Dianne Feinstein revealed that she believed the CIA had hacked into Senate Intelligence Committee computers. After Ms. Feinstein’s shocking revelations, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was met with a barrage of questions from reporters on the subject, but Chuck Todd, NBC’s Chief White House Correspondent had perhaps the most bizarre and unnecessarily partisan comment directed towards Carney. Appearing at the press briefing on Tuesday March 11, Todd chose to use the opportunity to attack Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and claimed that “This is not Darrell Issa making this allegation; this is Dianne Feinstein, Mark Udall,

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday approved Federal Reserve Governor Sarah Bloom Raskin to be the No. 2 official at the Treasury Department, backing a critic of Wall Street to help coordinate an overhaul of financial regulations. The Senate approved the nomination by voice vote. Raskin, who was a state banking supervisor before she joined the Fed, is expected to play a central role in the roll-out of regulations aimed at preventing a repeat of the 2007-09 financial crisis. Her departure from the central bank opens yet another seat on the Fed´s board for President Barack Obama to fill. Obama on
