Lawmakers push for repeal

Washington Examiner, by Joel Gehrke

House Republicans and Democrats are making another push to repeal a $29 billion tax increase contained in President Obama’s health care law that is expected to raise the price of medical devices such as braces. “[The medical device tax] will reduce patient access to cutting edge medical products and treatments that save lives,” said Rep. Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., in a statement on the bill yesterday. The Congressional Budget Office said last year that repealing the Obamacare provision would cut taxes by $29.1 billion over a ten year period. “While the tax will be paid to the IRS by the manufacturer,

How about repealing the whole dang thing? What an absolutely wonderful fantasy that is.

It is insane and hypocritical to pick and choose which parts of Obamacare to waive/repeal. Every single miserable portion of it affects someone or everyone. Are braces for teeth worth more than a hip replacement ?
Than an artificial knee. What the heck is wrong with the Administrations mentality? They are simply beyond the pale.

I had forgotten about the tax increase!

Does it include hearing aids? I just paid $500 more per ear (total $5200+ for two).

At least dental plans cover braces - neither Medicare or my private insurance covers hearing aids. It´s all out-of-pocket.

I understood the new tax even applied to winged infusion sets, syringes and needles. I use a lot of each for my kidney problem cats and stocked up before the end of last year. I reasoned that even if the tax didn´t apply, the price of those things will be increasing anyway, just like everything else so I´d still be saving money.

WASHINGTON — Once upon a time there was a House of Representatives and a Senate. The two bodies of representatives championed the rights of each United State in America. Left, Right, Democrat or Republican, elected to be the big bad wolf against the Federal Government, put into place with trust, honor and dignity, they were friends of the governed citizens. Then one day, it happened, flash…….. bang……… pow………… The slime from the pork of empty promises oozed out into the once amicable Houses of Congress, corrupting the minds of all who had been in power and control too long.

When Barack Obama sings “Auld Lang Syne” on New Year’s Eve, he will have reason to think back, with a deep sense of nostalgia and not a small amount of regret, on the last time he sang the song. If he gets a lump in his throat as he recollects that glorious night one year ago, who would blame him? After all, he was riding about as high as a man can ride on New Year’s Eve 2012. There he was, almost literally the master of the universe — the canny victor of the 2012 election, having run what was

On Hugh Hewitt’s Thursday radio show, conservative commentator Mark Steyn spoke out against the groups he said were behind the hostile reactions to the remarks made by “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson made to GQ magazine about homosexuality and sin. “I think in a strange way, this is the biggest story of the day, the week, the month,” Steyn told fill-in host Rep. John Campbell (R-CA). “I’m actually quite worried that we’re moving into an age of extremely heavy-handed ideological compliance. There was nothing this guy said in GQ that I think that should have rendered him banished from the airwaves.

Look, I tried, remember? But while the good news is that KISS finally got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the bad news is that Cat Stevens (a.k.a. However, the Hall has a sort of “electoral college” that gets to override the people’s choices. This leads to a frankly bizarre situation, in which bands like Yes (10.88% of the popular vote) and Deep Purple (11.93%) beat out Stevens (5.37%) but don’t get inducted. Look,

He has now issued an opinion that could fundamentally alter American law and culture. “The State’s second argument is that the Plaintiffs are really seeking a new right, not access to an

What a depressing presidency Barack Obama has wrought. Waltzing into office five years ago with the media’s shameless aid on a high-school-style campaign pledge of “Hope and Change,” the former community organizer from Chicago spent his last press conference of the year apologizing for everything he’s done wrong — then announcing he’s “eager to skip town” to Hawaii for “a couple days of sleep and sun.” Well, 17, but who’s counting. One truly has to wonder how the vaunted White House staff of advisers and sycophants came up with the battle plan for Friday’s presser, the last of a terrible year:

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) wants to look tough on budget issues. In an editorial published in USA Today explaining his decision to lead the passage of a budget that reduced vested veteran pensions by an average of $84,000 to $120,000, Mr. Ryan founded his message on the urgent need to “do the right thing.” In doing so, he created a painful irony; Ryan’s budget seeks to save $6B over the next 10 years – equivalent to less than six-tenths of one percent of projected federal spending over that period — by extracting it from compensation already guaranteed to people who earned it risking their lives and defending their country. Duck Dynasty gave me an unexpected wonderful gift for Christmas: a renewed hope in America. Polling on various social issues confirm that liberals have made significant inroads towards secularizing America into a culture in which anything goes. The norm on TV is disrespectful kids scolding their parents, cussing, youths sleeping around, the promotion of homosexuality, and poking fun at Christians. Traditional principles and values are on the chopping block. Several months ago, I heard about this cable show, Duck Dynasty, that was kicking American Idol´s butt in the ratings on Wednesday nights. It´s easy to forget that the tea party movement is still less than 5 years old. Its successes include the 2010 midterm elections, when it helped the GOP win back the U.S. House. It was once again a noisy and resurgent player in American politics in 2013. But that doesn´t mean it was a year of victories: The movement´s campaign to repeal Obamacare failed, and public approval hit near-record lows after the tea party forced a partial government shutdown. Even tea party events aren´t as large as they once were. Even so, the movement had a great influence on both the debate and on the direction of the Republican Party this year.

President Obama’s health reform law limps past its biggest milestone in critical condition. Monday was supposed to be the deadline to sign up for Obamacare insurance that would start on Jan. 1. Obama then granted a signup extension to midnight Tuesday — the latest in a series of desperate, short-term fixes. And with enrollment way short of projections, the President’s promise of near-universal coverage recedes into a doubtful future. According to the White House’s no-doubt optimistic count, the first half of December saw an enrollment surge of 1 million, on top of the 1.2 million in October and November.
