$10G degree deal:
Governors push state schools
to offer bachelor´s bargain

FOX News, by Joshua Rhett Miller

The $10,000 bachelor´s degree could be coming to a campus near you. What began as a challenge from billionaire Microsoft founder Bill Gates to make college more affordable is now catching on with governors eager to stem spiraling tuition costs and mounting student debt.[Snip] The bargain baccalaureate could prove popular with students and parents, frustrated with ever-mounting tuition costs that can´t guarantee jobs for graduates. Nationally, student loan debt tops $1 trillion and the price of going to college has risen 440 percent in the last 25 years, according to Sallie Mae.

Time to shake up the precious world of academia!

You get what you pay for?

Well, students sure as heck aren´t getting what they pay for now. $40,000 in debt after 4 years of partying and liberal indoctrination. I don´t know why everyone thinks a degree is mandatory.

Correct, #2, an education would be better, much better, than a degree.

They have already cheapened the bachelor´s degree by giving them to virtually everyone.

You can´t do this in every high school, but there are a number of high schools in the country already doing this:

At the end of the sophomore year, the students with high grades takes a test and if they pass, they are then able to enroll in a junior college and take freshman college courses during the summers. Returning to high school during the regular school year, they take duel credit courses. These are the same courses as advanced placement, but with a heavier work load. Graduating from high school, they have courses that will transfer to the majority of colleges in the United States.

My son graduated in 2000 with 18 hrs of duel credit, 17 hrs. of which transferred to a 4 year college. Earlier, another student graduated with 34 hrs., making her a sophomore in college.

Colleges aren´t interested in providing a solid education or even in graduating students with bankable degrees; its only for generating money thru repetitive courses and wishy washy crap. Daughter has spent 10 yrs working part time for her BS and has had to take Anatomy 4 times. Thank God she´s married and we´re no longer paying her loans.

A bargain at 1/10th the price...so what will this degree get you in terms of jobs.

At the job interview:

What is your education background?

Well I graduated with the special bachelor´s degree.

What did you learn.

Nothing, I mean nothing interesting.

Do you have any experience doing (put job responsibilities here)?

No, I don´t....

Reply 10 - Posted by: msjena, 2/7/2013 4:53:41 PM     (No. 9164380)

You know what would bring down college costs? The end of the student loan program. Let the market decide what a degree is worth. Some schools would be charging less that $10,000.

Few Americans outside of Knoxville, Tenn., know about the case of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, two young people who were kidnapped, savagely assaulted, raped, and murdered by people of a different race. If Christian and Newsom had been black, and they had been raped, tortured, and murdered by a group of white people, the victims’ names would be painfully seared into the national psyche by the media’s saturation coverage of the atrocities and their aftermath. The reason the case attracted so little media attention was because Christian and Newsom were white.

In April, two black teenagers punched a Chinese immigrant, 59-year-old Tian Sheng Yu, in the mouth in downtown Oakland, California. He fell on his head, spent the next few days in critical care, and subsequently died. In late March, five black teenagers surrounded a 57-year-old Asian woman at a light rail bus stop in San Francisco; one of them grabbed her and threw her from the platform onto the rails before beating her. Hollywood is in trouble. Some of that is thanks to the shifting methods of distribution and production in moviemaking; it’s cheaper than ever to make movies, and it’s cheaper than ever to sit home and watch them. That means that studios are interested in churning out huge-budget films that simply demand to be seen on the big screen, rather than streamed via Netflix six months later. Which is fine. The problem is that of late, Hollywood’s big budget flicks are missing more often than they’re hitting. And that is thanks to Hollywood’s continual desire to slap Americans

Most voters are unhappy with the way things are going in the country, and over half say they don’t see signs the economy has turned the corner, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday. Those are two of the reasons why President Obama’s job approval remains below 50 percent -- and hits a new low among independents. Just 25 percent of independents approve of the job the president is doing, down from 31 percent last month. Independents were essential to Obama’s 2008 victory when 52 percent backed him. That support dropped to 45 percent in the 2012 election

On July 20, 1969, an audience of 500 million people watched a man set foot on the surface of the moon and plant an American flag in the gray powder of the Sea of Tranquility. In July 2010, NASA chief Charles Bolden, an Obama appointee, told Al Jazeera that his boss had given him three priorities… none of them involving space exploration. The foremost priority for the agency once tasked with sending a man to the moon was “to reach out to the Muslim world… to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.”

The 4 Most Unhinged Responses

The recent George Zimmerman acquittal drew predictable responses from the race-obsessed left: death threats directed at Zimmerman, his family and the jurors; protests with signs provided by and promoting Communist organizations; violence and vandalism; and of course community organizing by race hustlers Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson. But it also brought forth a few particularly irrational reactions. In no particular order of degree of insanity, here are four notably unhinged responses to the verdict, no doubt with more to come:

Today´s Chicago Tribune editorial on the Zimmerman verdict repeats some of the lies and misrepresentations that have helped create so much of the anger over this case for the past 16 months. The editorial which urges acceptance of the verdict none the less begins with the following quote: "Are you following him?" "Yeah" "Ok. We don´t need for you to do that". The quote leaves out Zimmerman´s reply of ok, an editorial decision that changes the clear meaning of the exchange which is that Zimmerman accepts the advice. More properly, what the transcript of the call reads - "Are you following him?"

In the civilized world, it is universally recognized and axiomatic that sport, whether tennis, judo or boxing, transcends politics. Sure the fans may root for the home team and wish to see their nationals triumph, but for the sportsmen and women involved in the match, it is a matter of love of the game, testing the limits of one’s own abilities, and respect for the opposing player’s talents. President Obama, in his weekly radio address, beseeched voters to get behind his climate change plan and punish politicians who don´t. He may want to be careful what he asks for. Several of those lawmakers come from the president´s own party. Coal-state Democrats have been as scathing as any Republican in reaction to the president´s plan, unveiled Tuesday in a speech at Georgetown University. The pushback was almost immediate, and a glaring signal of the trouble Obama may encounter as he charges ahead with new restrictions on coal-fired power plants.
