Iranian Ambassador to Venezuela Hojattolah Soltani stated on Tuesday that Tahmasb Mazaheri, an Iranian citizen detained in Germany over a USD 70-million check, has nothing to do with the Government of Teheran. Tahmasb Mazaher "is by no means an official of the Government (of Iran); neither has his name been affixed to the confiscated check, the Iranian Ambassador told private-owned TV news channel Globovisión in an interview, AP cited. The ambassador stressed that Mazaheri is an advisor to Iranian company Kayson, which is currently building some 17,000 homes in Venezuela and has already completed the construction of additional 10,000.

Trader Joe´s drags a pirate to court

Vancouver, British Columbia -- Michael Hallatt has spent more than $350,000 at Trader Joe´s in less than two years. But the popular grocery chain doesn´t ever want to see him again. "I´m their best customer," he said with a mix of pride and indignation. Every week, the former Bay Area resident drives his panel van across the border to buy a few thousand dollars worth of merchandise at Trader Joe´s stores in the States. He then turns around and resells the goods at his own shop in Canada for a profit. Now, despite the obvious affection Hallatt and his customers

WASHINGTON – The U.S. government announced Thursday that it has suspended the deportation of 552,918 undocumented young people since the Deferred Action program went into effect a year ago. The government has received a total of 573,404 requests under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, an immigration program implemented by the Obama administration on Aug. 15, 2012, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The program suspends for two years the deportation of qualified undocumented youths and young adults who entered the United States as minors.

Congress: Unable to gain traction for his immigration bill, Sen. Marco Rubio is warning his fellow Republicans to pass it now because President Obama will otherwise enact amnesty without them. Is this any way to legislate? Rubio, who has been so impressive in the past, is beginning to disappoint with his desperate effort to enact the Gang of Eight´s immigration reform bill, which is expected to legalize millions of lawbreakers who disregarded U.S. immigration law in exchange for some hastily cobbled together border security programs. "I believe the president will be tempted, if nothing happens in Congress, he will be tempted to

A Washington state bride-to-be whose wedding dress was stolen the day of the ceremony found a fairy godmother of sorts in an unlikely way: by calling 911. The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the bride-to-be called after her wedding dress was stolen out of her car near her home. The 911 operator who answered the call tells the paper that she took down the woman’s information as usual, but was touched by her story. “I finally figured out what was going on, and asked when the ceremony was scheduled,” Candice, who only wanted to give her first name, told The News Tribune. “When

An internet troll who harassed successful sellers on eBay in a bid to put them out of business has been exposed after years of abuse. Charles ´Chuck´ Fitch, from Canton, Michigan, is said to be the man behind the mask who calls himself Ebayisajoke and harasses not only the ecommerce website and PayPal but also those who use it. A television reporter in Detroit, Michigan, hired private investigators to track down the man who targeted individual customers, sending them a torrent of threatening abuse. They found him living in an apartment in the commuter town of Canton, but when they

Panama is insisting that the case of a North Korean ship carrying contraband Cuban weapons must be handled by the United Nations despite a soothing diplomatic note from Pyongyang, according a Panamanian government official. The verbal note from Pyongyang’s embassy in Havana noted that the ship did not seek to endanger the security of the Panama Canal and that North Korea hopes for “amiable cooperation” to resolve the case “diplomatically,” the official said. North Korea also asked in the note Friday that two of its diplomats be allowed into Panama to provide consular services to the 35 crewmen

Is there such thing as “class” in America? Not if you ask Rick Santorum. The once and possibly future GOP presidential candidate spoke to a Republican gathering in Lyon County, Iowa late last week and shared this piece of advice with his party: “Don’t use the term the other side uses.” That includes the “middle class.” Santorum proceeded to tear into President Obama for constantly invoking the term “middle class” in his speeches about the economy. “Since when in America do we have classes?” Santorum asked. “Since when in America are people stuck in areas

Labor activists using tactics adopted from the Occupy Wall Street movement are crashing restaurants across the nation in an effort to raise wages for workers – and they’re getting taxpayer money to fund the effort. Using a combination of federal grants and grants from left-leaning organizations, the Restaurant Opportunity Center, or ROC, is technically a charitable nonprofit and not a union. But their pro-worker messages, anti-employer protests and self-proclaimed goal of organizing service sector employees for the purposes of negotiating higher wages make ROC look and sound much like a labor union.

Oprah Winfrey and her co-star in Lee Daniels’ The Butler Forest Whitaker appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 Thursday night to promote their film. During the interview, Anderson Cooper asked Winfrey to relate the historical themes of the movie to the modern day struggles for African-Americans, including the Trayvon Martin case. Winfrey said she “loves” the film in light of the discussion on race, because it “brings context” to the conversation. She described how the film begins with a lynching scene and ends with walking into President Obama’s office, showing how much has “happened in the span of one man’s lifetime

The former CIA contractor, who is currently in Russia with temporary asylum, handed over an internal audit and other top-secret documents detailing the illegal behaviour. Most of the infractions involved unauthorised surveillance of Americans or foreign intelligence targets in the United States, both of which are restricted by law and executive order, The Washington Post said. They ranged from significant violations of law to typographical errors that resulted in unintended interception of US emails and telephone calls, it said. The Post said the documents it obtained were part of a trove of materials provided to the paper by Mr Snowden

Sandra Fluke, a former "reproductive justice" advocate at Georgetown Law School, has a new mission: getting more women to run for elective office. In a brief interview on MSNBC Friday morning, Fluke was asked if Republicans are remiss in not asking more women to run for office. "I think there are a variety of concerns about how we get women into office," she responded. "It´s not only about asking women, which is something we need to do -- but also about making sure that the party leadership and those in elected office are looking for women to succeed them." Fluke,

Americans continue to harken to the call of the bodacious, idyllic, post-war, big-finned, fabulous ‘50s. Given a choice of any decade in the century, the public would most want to live in the 1950s, this according to a new YouGov/Economist poll. The 1980s comes in second - with some interesting partisan divides between Republicans and Democrats over the decades. And the numbers: 18 percent of Americans would live in the 1950s if they could go back in time; 20 percent of Republicans and 14 percent of Democrats agree. 15 percent of Americans overall would chose to live in the 1960s;

President George W. Bush’s daughter Barbara said she would like to see Hillary Clinton run for president in 2016. Barbara Bush, 31, called Clinton “unbelievably accomplished” in an upcoming interview with People magazine, saying she wants to see the former first lady mount a campaign. BOSTON — With 82 days until his likely reelection as governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie laid out his clearest rationale yet Thursday for an almost-certain 2016 presidential campaign: He can win. Speaking privately to Republican leaders here for the party’s summer meeting, he touted his crossover appeal and presented himself as the party’s most electable option to win back the White House in 2016. “We are not a debating society,” Christie said. “We are a political operation that needs to win.” The 41-minute luncheon speech was closed to reporters at Christie’s insistence, sources said, but an attendee at the meeting offered a

WASHINGTON- Haven´t had a raise in a while? Well, neither has your member of Congress. This month, congressional salaries slid to their lowest inflation-adjusted levels since December 1990. When congressional approval ratings are at historic lows, congressional pay - $174,000 for rank-and-file senators and House members - may seem high. But some argue that shrinking paychecks for public service perpetuates a political culture where mostly the rich can afford to serve in office. Members of Congress have to maintain households in two locations, one being Washington, one of the most expensive housing markets in the country even for rentals.
