Obama to nominate CEO of
outdoor equipment giant REI
to become interior secretary

Washington Post, by Juliet Eilperin

Original Article

President Obama on Wednesday will nominate Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) chief executive Sally Jewell to head the Interior Department, according to a White House official who asked not to be identified because the public announcement has not yet been made. The choice of Jewell — who began her career as an engineer for Mobil Oil Corp. and worked as a commercial banker before heading a nearly $2 billion outdoors equipment company — represents an unconventional choice for a post usually reserved for career politicians from the West.

Sally may well be a jewel for the national parks that are in need of constant maintenance. Best thing about her is that she´s not a political hack but has actual and successful business experience. Her private sector background is a rarity for an Obama cabinet appointee. The co-op she runs has also felt he impact of Obama´s recession, eliminating 60 jobs to control costs. She´s also an avid supporter of free trade, another plus.

If she is able to remove some of the energy development restrictions imposed by the outgoing Salazar, especially if this helps fund & expand the parks, we may have a winner.

hmmm, a fan of using the Atiquities Act, used lately by the government to scarf up private land, all in the name of producing "national monuments". Federal Land grabs in this country are totally out of control. We need push back from this, not more of it.

Every person obama has appointed to a cabinet position is a far left activist. With that track record it´s hard to believe that sally jewell won´t continue the obama/ken salazar green energy environmentalist agenda.

Things are moving far too fast in Kiev, Moscow and Crimea to write about events there. But the past isn´t going anywhere. Though you wouldn´t know that from the way the Obama administration talks about it. Throughout this crisis — indeed, throughout all of Barack Obama´s presidency — the White House has been eager to insist that our long, unpleasant history with the Russians is behind us. Obviously, every administration wants a fresh start with long-time rivals. That's why there have been four "resets" with the Russians since 1991, including George W. Bush's famous soul-searching gaze into Vladimir Putin's eyes and Hillary Clinton's comic effort to give the Russians a "reset" button (that actually said "overcharge" on

Toronto mayor Rob Ford made his first late night TV appearance Monday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and it was just as awkward as you would imagine. It mostly consisted of Kimmel bringing up hilarious aspects of Ford’s character and Ford’s most embarrassing moment while Ford just sat there and laughed it off. And at the top of the segment, when Ford came out on stage, the very first thing he did was throw t-shirts into the audience. Kimmel couldn’t believe Ford actually agreed to come on his show, and on top of that, that Ford actually gives out his phone

Hypotheses abound as to why Russian President Vladimir Putin defied international treaties and dared global isolation by invading the Crimean peninsula last weekend, ranging from “he thinks he can act with impunity due to inconsequential U.S. leadership” to “he’s a shrewd opportunist playing well a weak hand.” Then there’s the growing theory that Putin has simply gone round the bend. We might as well call this The Merkel Theory, as German Chancellor Angela Merkel first gave voice to it during a phone call with President Barack Obama last weekend. At Chipotle, guacamole costs extra - but it soon may not be available at all thanks to climate change. The Denver, Colorado-based chain of Mexican fast-food restaurants threatened to take the condiment off the menu because of the rising price of avocados. While the avocado crop is currently fine, scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are predicting drier temperatures will lead to a 40 per cent drop in California´s avocado crop over the next 32 years. Most modern scientists agree that there is a direct correlation between the increase of droughts and global warming, according to Think Progress.
