Bob Menendez Spent Up to 87 Percent
of Wealth Paying Back Donor

National Journal, by Shane Goldmacher

Original Article

Posted By:Toledo, 2/6/2013 7:29:54 AM

When Robert Menendez arrived in the U.S. Senate in 2006, he was a relative pauper in a chamber often called a millionaires’ club. The New Jersey Democrat ranked 97th out of 100 senators in terms of his personal wealth, according to financial records filed that year and compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics. So Menendez’s decision last month to use his personal funds to reimburse a prominent political contributor $58,500 for two flights to the Dominican Republic came at a major cost.

That´s what you get when you run around with high priced prostitutes. They want to get paid. Unlike interns.

Prostitutes are hard working people and should be looked up to as a good example of the work ethic. Unlike congressmen.

What about the Undocumented intern/Illegal Alien (unpaid so he says) he had in his office. Just how did he manage to maintain himself if he was earning no funds. The press should follow up on this subject as well, since it is now under the rug. Drag it back out!

Two things here:

1) He never planned to pay for this.

2) The fact that he can´t afford it made no difference, he was entitled, and did what he wanted. This behaviour is rampent in our government and explains why we are where we are.

If you can´t make sound decisions with your own money, how can you be expected to with someone else´s money.

This story has been updated. On February 2, Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the US Senate, opened up his 2014 reelection campaign headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, and in front of several dozen supporters vowed to "point out" the weaknesses of any opponent fielded by the Democrats. "They want to fight? We´re ready," he declared. McConnell was serious: Later that day, he was huddling with aides in a private meeting to discuss how to attack his possible Democratic foes, including actor/activist Ashley Judd, who was then contemplating challenging the minority leader.

In what may be the greatest victory to date for the sophisticatedly asinine organization “No Labels,” the Associated Press has embraced a new policy against “labeling people.” For instance, its widely used and influential style guide is being purged of such terms as “schizophrenic” in favor of “diagnosed with schizophrenia.” Most of the chatter about the AP’s move has been over its decision to drop the term “illegal immigrant.” AP Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll explained that the change on “illegal immigrant” was based on the no-labeling policy.

President Obama is giving back 5% of his $400,000 salary to show solidarity with federal workers hit by the dread sequester. That’s not much of a nick to a man who has no worries about living expenses and has plenty of independent income, to boot. But, hey, symbolism counts. It’s an appropriate gesture for a debate about debt and deficits that’s shallow, thanks in no small part to Obama. The dread sequester — remember that? — went into effect one month ago, following weeks of presidential fear-mongering about the automatic cuts.

Announcements by potential 2016 candidates, Hillary Clinton and Rob Portman, that they now approve of gay marriage made headlines as predicted. Never once discussed, however, by advocates is how this issue has anything to do with the economic state of the nation today. Legalizing gay marriage will not improve the economy nor is it really that important to the average homosexual. Celebrity nuptials and endorsements may garner news coverage stressing it as a civil rights issue but ironically these come from a wealthier than average demographic. The average homosexual has concerns that are much more aligned

One of the ongoing perplexities of President Obama’s Syria policy has been the stark contrast between his muscular rhetoric and halting, hesitant actions. On the one hand, he has insisted that the country’s dictator Bashar al-Assad “must” go and has predicted that his fall is all but assured. But on the other, he has thus far limited himself to authorizing aid in the form of training and intelligence for Syria’s beleaguered rebels. While we’d be the last to conclude that the case for intervening in Syria is open and shut, we have argued here at Via Meadia

Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
