John Kerry: ‘Big heels
to fill’ at State

Washington Post, by Natalie Jennings

Original Article

Secretary John Kerry greeted his new colleagues at the State Department on Monday with a nod to his female predecessors. “Here’s the big question before the country and the world and the State Department: After the last eight years, can a man actually run the State Department?” Kerry quipped. Kerry is taking the reins from Hillary Clinton. Clinton succeeded Condoleezza Rice, who served as secretary of state from 2005-2009. “As the saying goes, I have big heels to fill,” Kerry said. Kerry thanked Clinton for her service and pledged to continue advocating for State Department staff,

This extreme sycophancy over Clinton by all concerned is hideous.

The openness of top Democrats to the House GOP´s immigration “principles” could undercut Speaker John Boehner´s credibility on the right as he seeks to sell his conference on moving forward. Obama had previously said he would not sign an immigration reform bill that does not provide a pathway to citizenship. On Friday, he said on CNN: [If Boehner] proposes something that says right away, folks aren´t being deported, families aren´t being separated, we´re able to attract top young students to provide the skills or start businesses here, and then there´s a regular process of citizenship, I´m not sure how wide

The Jeep abandoned by a murderer who escaped from a Michigan prison Sunday has been found by law enforcement authorities searching for the convict. Michael David Elliot, 40, convicted in four murders two decades ago, is at large after he escaped from a Michigan prison disguised as a prison worker and abducted a woman who fled his grips when he stopped for gas in Indiana, authorities said Monday. Investigators told Fox 17 News that Elliot abducted a woman using a knife or box cutter and made her drive to Elkhart, Ind., roughly 100 miles southwest of Ionia near the Indiana-Michigan state line.

During the February 2 airing of This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Democratic National Committee vice chairwoman Donna Brazile stressed that Obama cannot stop short of full citizenship on immigration reform because citizenship will allow current illegals to vote. As other commentators stressed that support from House Speaker John Boenher (R-OH) and Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) allows Obama to sit back and watch immigration reform-minus-citizenship pass, Brazile said reform-minus-citizenship is not enough. Brazile said: "I don´t think you can create two classes of citizens in this society, one with legal status and the right to vote, and one without." For years, talk-show giant Rush

This is not surprising, given our country’s history of Red Scares designed to impress that anti-capitalism is tantamount to treason. In 2014, though, we are too far removed from the Cold War-era threat of thermonuclear annihilation to continue without taking stock of the hype we’ve been made, despite Harry Allen’s famous injunction, to believe.
