Bombing the Syrian Reactor:
The Untold Story

Commentary Magazine, by Elliott Abrams

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 2/4/2013 4:30:11 AM

As the civil war in Syria enters its third year, there is much discussion of the regime’s chemical weapons and whether Syria’s Bashar al-Assad will unleash them against Syrian rebels, or whether a power vacuum after Assad’s fall might make those horrific tools available to the highest bidder. The conversation centers on Syria’s chemical weaponry, not on something vastly more serious: its nuclear weaponry. It well might have. This is the inside story of why it does not. Relations between the United States and Israel had grown rocky after Israel’s incursion into Lebanon in 2006, for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

Let me spare you from Abram´s tale of talking the world into peace while washing and ironing his UN cape

Israel spotted the danger-decided what was needed to remove the threat and then had to wait forEVER while Eliot and Condi threatened "UN action´ ".

An 11-year-old guitar prodigy from Nebraska stopped by Fox and Friends this morning to do some live shredding in the studio. The world found about Aidan Fisher´s amazing talents after he was invited up on stage at a Steel Panther concert in Kansas City. The band´s guitarist, Satchel, actually met Fisher and his dad at a hotel before the show. Fisher had already planned to go to the concert with a sign challenging Satchel to an on-stage solo duel. What the kid did next amazed the band and the crowd as Fisher did a pretty spot-on Eddie Van Halen impression,

One year ago I was sworn in as a United States congressman. Representing Texas’s Twentieth District, I was the successor to a South Texas legacy and part of the most diverse freshman class in American history. We came to Washington to change things, certain that we could do better than the do-nothing Congress that preceded us. We would take on big issues and finally find agreement on things like immigration reform, which had been stuck in partisan gridlock for a generation. It hasn’t exactly worked out that way. By the end of the year, the 113th Congress was one of

Last week Kristinn Taylor reported that Jodie Evans and Code Pink, the leftist group she co-leads, were reportedly working with a group whose leaders have recently been declared terrorists and al Qaeda supporters by the Treasury Department. As Kristinn noted, Code Pink has a long history of working with terrorist organizations and enemies of the United States. The most recent allegations involve Code Pink’s relationship with al Karama, a so-called human rights group. Mohammad Al Ahmady, the Yemeni director for Geneva-based NGO Al Karama, was expected to brief Reps. Alan Grayson (D., Fla.), Barbara Lee (D., Calif.), and Jan Schakowsky (D.,

The latest report on the 2012 debacle in Benghazi, Libya, where Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three others were killed in an attack on an American diplomatic mission, offers new detail and a chilling bottom line: the tragedy was “preventable.” Released in unclassified form by the Senate Intelligence Committee, the report reflects a bipartisan consensus about the tragedy that is broadly consistent with the findings of previous inquiries.(Snip)In the last analysis, however, it is the State Department that must bear most of the blame for failing to provide adequate security and not preventing the preventable.

In his new book The Loudest Voice in the Room, Gabriel Sherman portrays Roger Ailes as “the quintessential man behind the curtain,” a great-and-powerful Oz who has remade American politics and journalism. Sherman shows how Ailes transformed the Nixon Administration’s calls for balanced news into the platform of his cable channel, Fox News. Fox News, Sherman argues, used “entertainment techniques to shape a political narrative that was presented as unbiased news,” something that makes Ailes “a unique American auteur.” (Snip)The tension between those two ideas—between objectivity and partisanship—would become a defining feature of conservative media. Conservatives spent most of the 1950s

Rebekah Gregory and Pete DiMartino are going to get their fairy-tale wedding – but their love story hasn´t always been so magical. The two – who met in March 2012 and began a long-distance relationship a few months later – were at the finish line of the Boston Marathon last April, cheering on DiMartino´s mom. When the bombs went off, Gregory was thrown on top of her young son, saving his life but breaking just about every bone in her foot, leg and ankle in the process. Late last year, when President Obama reviewed the draft of a speech he was scheduled to give on economic inequality, he sent it back with a request: He wanted his speechwriter to add a quote from Pope Francis’s recent letter to the Catholic church. “Across the developed world, inequality has increased,” Obama said in the Dec. 4 speech. “Some of you may have seen just last week, the pope himself spoke about this at eloquent length. ‘How could it be,’ he wrote, ‘that it’s not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news

Obamacare is no longer a theoretical proposition. It is now being implemented, if with some notable exceptions for the portions of the law the Obama administration finds particularly inconvenient. Millions of Americans are experiencing its consequences directly, and millions more are forming their opinions of it based on what they are hearing of its effects. Those opinions are generally not positive. The fact that many of the law’s congressional supporters are now running scared for fear of voter backlash is a good indication of how poorly the rollout is going. An obscure academic organization called the American Studies Association not long ago voted to endorse a resolution calling for a boycott of Israeli universities. The self-appointed moralists were purportedly outraged over the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians. Given academia’s past obsessions with the Jewish state, the targeting of Israel is not new. Yet why do the professors focus on Israel and not Saudi Arabia, which denies women the right to drive and only recently granted them the right to vote? Why not Russia, which has been accused of suppressing free speech, or India, which has passed retrograde anti-homosexual legislation? The hip poet Amiri

T ea Party activists and the conservative groups that have enforced their agenda are vehemently opposed to the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill that will fund the government through September. On Wednesday evening, the House passed the bill anyway, 359 to 67, with plenty of votes to spare. Sixty-four of those no votes were from conservative Republicans. But it seems pretty clear from the vote tally that Tea Party–style "ideological purity has lost its power," says Jonathan Weisman in The New York Times. Have you ever lied about reading a book? Maybe you didn’t want to seem stupid in front of someone you respected. Maybe you rationalized it by reasoning that you had a familiarity with the book, or knew who the author was, or what the story was about, or had glanced at its Wikipedia page. Or maybe you had tried to read the book, even bought it and set it by your bed for months unopened, hoping that it would impart what was in it merely via proximity (if that worked, please email me).
