| Beyonce channeled her Sasha Fierce alter-ego on stage at the half-time Super Bowl show this evening as a surprise reunion of Destiny´s Child wowed the crowd in New Orleans. Launching the show with a strong performance of ´Crazy in Love´ complete with a guitar flaming as it played out its solo, Beyonce proved her doubters wrong by singing live one week after the controversy over her lip-synching at the Presidential Inauguration. In a massive surprise for the tens of millions watching at home, Beyonce was joined by Destiny´s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams who sang with the diva

Take that, Mitches! Apparently, CBS is perfectly fine with alienating an (admittedly slim) majority of this country for their own minority views. Next thing you know, they´ll set up a series of softball interviews with Obama to further his agenda! Just like the state-run media used to do with Stalin and Hitler! But, naw...that´s hyperbole, isn´t it? Couldn´t happen here.

Ours is probably the only house in the US not tuned in to the overhyped Super Bowl and the triply overhyped, worst kept secret ever of the Most Saintly Beyonce (sarcasm) and her half-time worship service. I think Beyonce has a good voice, but does not use it in any way that impresses me. She is an excellent caterwauler. The fact that she´s BFFs with the Poseurs in Chief makes me want to see her even less.

Skimpy black leather and lace outfits on talent-less ´´entertainers´´. Fortunately my granddaughters were not watching as my daughter and son-in-law don´t have tv. They could be watching from the internet, and I KNOW the half-time would be blocked. Are the organizers unaware of the age groups that watch? The only half-time show that was memorable for me was when my parents visited from England, and it was a Disney half-time. We all enjoyed it.

It was the worst form of exploitation to put those Sandy Hook kids out there. One of the real problems with survivors of violence is a sense of guilt that they lived, and someone else died. It must be even more difficult for little kids than for adults. Shame on the NFL. And I was pretty sure that Alicia Keys would never end with her over the top melisma attached to the star spangled banner. The whole pre-game and half time show, with that screeching dancer, who appeared ready to take it all off, made me a grouchy old man.

Actually, Beyonce did not appear to sing "absolutely live" as promised. I´ve spoken to people in the know who say she sang live in parts but sang along to a pre-recorded track in other parts. Therefore, it was not "absolutely live".
The comments about her performance on the social media have been largely negative.

I´m with #11. They could save a bundle on this overhyped halftime show by awarding it to a really good high school marching band (Macy´s Parade, anyone?) and instead of paying them, they make a large donation to the school which could be applied toward funding their arts program.
I saw about 10 seconds of this "show" - - and remarked to my wife - "they look like prostitutes".

Since when is an in-your-face screaming calisthenics show half-time entertainment? And what is there about our National Anthem that causes popular artists to make singing it a stylistic romp and all about them? Ridiculous, Alicia Keyes. In contrast, I had the good fortune to attend a huge new citizen swearing in ceremony at the L.A. Convention Center a few months ago. One of the highlights of the ceremony was an amateur young lady who sang our anthem with feeling BUT sang it straight, a cappella and in-tune. It was so moving bringing thousands to tears and then cheers. That young singer got it that it was not about her.

For all her shortcomings and all her talent, one thing is certain: Sarah Palin can draw attention. The love and hate for Palin—depending on which camp you’re in—gives her a gift few possess: The ability to generate a reaction (good or bad), to make people pay attention. Despite her rising unfavorable ratings (58% unfavorable in the latest CNN/ORC poll…a 37-point rise since her 2008 RNC speech), she’s authored two best-sellers, and was named to Time’s “100 Most Influential People,” albeit in 2010. ARDMORE, Pa. -- A cross country flight, little sleep and more weather woes didn´t stop Phil Mickelson from a memorable day at the U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club. The five-time U.S. Open runner-up, who returned to California earlier in the week for his daughter´s eighth-grade graduation and didn´t get back to suburban Philadelphia until the wee hours Thursday morning, shot a 3-under 67 to take the clubhouse lead. First-round play, interrupted by two separate rain delays, was suspended due to darkness, with Luke Donald leading at 4 under through 13 holes.

Washington- Syria has crossed a "red line" with its use of chemical weapons, including the nerve agent sarin gas, against rebels, a move that is prompting the United States to increase the "scale and scope" of its support for the opposition, the White House said Thursday. The acknowledgment is the first time President Barack Obama´s administration has definitively said what it has long suspected -- that President Bashar al-Assad´s forces have used chemical weapons in the ongoing civil war. Atheists are outraged that a Bible sits right next to the mayor’s desk, inside a Pinellas Park City Council chamber, and they’re demanding its removal. City officials, however, say that’s a no-go. The Bible’s been there for more than 30 years, and laws don’t prohibit its presence, The Blaze reported. The book was an Oct. 19, 1975, gift to council members from the Kiwanis club, and it’s been a traditional fixture ever since. Freedom From Religion Foundation officials say they don’t care. They sent a letter to city officials, saying the Bible needs to go because it violates

The Black Forest fire raging northeast of Colorado Springs is now the most destructive in Colorado State history. El Paso County Sheriffy Terry Maketa said at least 360 homes are complete losses and another 14 already damaged, pushing the damage past the record set by last year´s Waldo Canyon fire which destroyed 347 homes. The fire has now burned 15,000 acres. Continuing difficult conditions kept firefighters from containing the blaze, with little prospect for containment anticipated on Thursday. Maketa said efforts were being concentrated on stopping the west and northwest movement,

"As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this," Pelosi said. "This shouldn´t have anything to do with politics."

Roger Ailes, the chairman and architect of the Fox News Channel, picked up a $250,000 award from a conservative foundation Wednesday night at the Kennedy Center, and served up some red meat to the largely conservative crowd gathered to honor him. The prize came from the Milwaukee-based Bradley Foundation, which honored Ailes and three others with its 10th annual Bradley Prize for promoting public policies consistent with the foundation’s conservative mission (the group’s goals include school choice, welfare reform and limited government). Ailes delighted the full house by slamming President Obama, and liberals in general, in his acceptance speech.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really struggling to explain why he told Congress in March (see video above) that the National Security Agency does not intentionally collect any kind of data on millions of Americans. His latest take: It´s an unfair question, he said, like "When are you going to stop beating your wife?" And it seems to depend on the meaning of "collect." "I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner by saying ´no,´" Clapper told NBC News on Sunday.

WASHINGTON — The State Department has hired an alarming number of law-enforcement agents with criminal or checkered backgrounds because of a flawed hiring process, a stunning memo obtained by The Post reveals. The background problems are severe enough that many of the roughly 2,000 agents in State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security can play only limited roles in agency efforts to police bad conduct and prosecute wrongdoers. The problems in the bureau are the latest revelation in an exploding scandal that also involves accusations that members of former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s security detail

At a Thursday press conference, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi condemned a bill that would prohibit abortions during the final four months of pregnancy with exceptions for when the life or physical health of the mother was at stake. Asked what the moral difference is between what Dr. Kermit Gosnell did to babies born alive and aborting those same infants moments before birth, Pelosi refused to answer. "As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this," Pelosi said. "This shouldn´t have anything to do with politics."

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., voted with Senate Democrats today to kill an amendment by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, that would have required the federal government to secure the border first before granting legalization to currently illegal immigrants. All four Republican members of the bipartisan Gang of Eight immigration group voted for Majority Leader Harry Reid’s, D-Nev., motion to table the Grassley amendment. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., who said she would vote for the underlying bill this Sunday, voted with her Republican

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that the incidence of pregnancy caused by rape is "very low," prompting criticism from Democrats who said the GOP is waging a "war on women." Franks made the comment during a committee mark-up of his late-term abortion ban bill, which is expected pass the House next week. The Republican lawmaker was arguing against a Democratic amendment allowing rape and incest victims to procure abortions. As written, the bill only exempts women whose lives are in danger. "You know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) made history Tuesday, becoming the first senator of the modern era to deliver a Senate floor speech entirely in Spanish as he explained his support for a bipartisan immigration bill up for consideration. Over the course of a 14-minute speech, Kaine said he wanted to use the Spanish-speaking skills he learned working in Honduras in order to explain aspects of the bill to the roughly 40 million Spanish speakers living in the United States. “El senado ha comenzado un debate histórico sobre una reforma migratoria comprensiva,” Kaine said at the start of his remarks.

One person whose privacy was not invaded by U.S. intelligence was Tamerlan Tsarnaev, as he repeatedly visited the al Qaeda online magazine Inspire for its recipe “Build a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom.” Even after Russian intelligence asked the FBI to investigate Tsarnaev, the huge databases our intelligence services maintain in the name of our national security failed to alert the agents to Tsarnaev’s interest in building the pressure cooker bombs he would use to devastating effect at the Boston Marathon. In the immediate aftermath of the Boston bombings, investigators did not fail to note similarities

A Cincinnati-based Internal Revenue Service employee is pushing back against claims by Lois Lerner and other top IRS officials that the agency’s Cincinnati office was responsible for the the targeting of tea-party groups and the botched processing of their applications for tax exemption. Elizabeth Hofacre, who coordinated ”emerging issues” cases for the IRS and handled all tea-party applications between April and August 2010, called Lerner’s May 10 disclosure of the scandal at a tax-law conference ”a nuclear strike” on Cincinnati employees.
