A look inside Brownells, Iowa
distributor of firearms accessories

Des Moines Register, by Donnelle Eller

Original Article

Posted By:leesum, 2/3/2013 1:20:38 PM

Brownells is an economic developer’s dream: a fast-growing, homegrown Iowa business that treats workers like the neighbors they are, eagerly donates to a passing community hat, and grooms leaders who sit on city boards and holler from soccer game benches. The Montezuma-based supplier of firearm accessories, ammunition and supplies also stands on the front lines of a national debate over gun control — selling controversial high-capacity ammunition magazines and parts for semi-automatics like the AR-15.

This article did touch on some of the opposition the Brownells face. Read the questions the reporter asked in writing and the written reply by Pete Brownell.

Brownells: great selection, great service, great prices, great product knowledge. A classic American business.

No wonder the leftards hate it.

Brownells is a great company. I have done business with them for years with nary a complaint. As it is with most gun related businesses.
Gun people as a rule are good people despite all the propaganda from the democrats/communists.

Will the Des Moines Register issue yet ANOTHER editorial calling for pro-Second Amendment advocates to be murdered in the street?

Yes, no extremists at the Des Moines Register, right?

Controversial? AR-15 magazines are only controversial because the left doesn´t like them.

People should remember that the liberals affectively want to put conservative oriented firearms manufacturers, related industries, and businesses out of business when they propose to ban just about all modern firearms produced and sold in the USA today. Those manufacturers, industries and businesses could not survive if they were limited to bidding on a diminishing number of military contracts, the liberals know that. If those manufacturers, industries, and businesses were to go down, tens of thousands, maybe a lot more, well paying American jobs would also be gone, along with all the technical knowhow connected to them.

Last year I went to the Gunsmiths´ Job Fair, sponsored by Brownell´s and held in Des Moines. I´m going again this year.

If you wanted, you could sign up for a tour of the plant in Montezuma, the day before, which I did. It is a well-run place, lots of friendly folks working the lines, clean, neat and well-lit.

As I know something of business other than gunsmithing, I asked some other questions on the tour. Like, where do they draw the work-force from? Montezuma is not that large a town. They draw heavily, they told me, from Montezuma, and from the outlying areas, up to about 30 or 40 miles out. Beyond that range, they said, it´s not a winning proposition for a worker to commute, with the price of gas what it is.

I have a number of places I deal with for parts and equipment, but Brownell´s is always the first place I look.

Good company.

Current reports indicate that the shooter at Newtown used the Bushmaster AR-15 variant for all shooting except to kill himself. A shotgun was left in the car. Early reports said otherwise, and apparently have been corrected.

I wish there was some totally authoritative source, but all that I have been able to find say it was the AR, even though old reports are still circulating the web that the AR was not used. I have no axe to grind except to make sure we are using the facts, not outdated and wrong info.

The big question is: Did Brownells participate in the Homeland Security IFB to buy up all the ammunition in the US?

The Meskwaki tribe of Iowa was among 25 Native American tribes that received the Congressional Gold Medal for their World War II service as “code talkers” during a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. U.S. and Allied forces used Native American languages to make highly sensitive radio transmissions during the war. Axis code breakers never cracked the varied dialects.

CORYDON, IA. — The hills of southern Iowa bear the scars of America’s push for green energy: The brown gashes where rain has washed away the soil. The polluted streams that dump fertilizer into the water supply. Even the cemetery that disappeared like an apparition into a cornfield. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. The ethanol era has proven far more damaging to the environment than politicians promised and much worse than the government admits today.

The state’s higher education community claims that universities are the engine that will drive the state’s economic comeback and thus they deserve more state aid. And you see a lot of head-nodding in agreement among many lawmakers on that notion. But you won’t see a lot of GOP head nodding this week as a house budget subcommittee wants to whack the University of Michigan and Wayne State because they recently extended their contracts with some unions.

In a broad new expansion of HIV screening, an influential government panel now says everyone ages 15 to 65 should be tested for the virus that causes AIDS. Despite the trillion-dollar deficits that keep piling up and recent American deaths in hot spots around the world, President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that Iowans should have confidence that he can whittle the debt and maintain peace and security throughout the world. Obama said if he’s fortunate enough to win a second term, his re-election will send a message to Republicans that Americans want them to follow his strategies, and that includes aiding the economy by spending on education and roads and bridges.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.
