Washington on notice:
A Trib exclusive from
House Speaker John Boehner

Tribune-Review [Pittsburgh, PA], by John Boehner

Original Article

Together, President Obama and his Democrat majority in the Senate hold the lion´s share of power in Washington. They have the capacity — right now — to solve the spending problem that is chasing good jobs overseas and causing so much anxiety about our future. They can stop a debt crisis. A budget is a logical place to start. Passing a budget is one of the most basic responsibilities of governing. But the Senate has failed to fulfill this responsibility for nearly four years. In that time, our debt has risen to the point that it now exceeds

Good piece. Unfortunately with Jack Lew at Treasury and having Obama´s ear on budget matters nothing will get done. Sperling´s already said no medicaid cuts or reform. That will go for all entitlements.

John, what difference is it going to make? You will again be rolled by the Democrats. You will sell it to us as a grand bargain. Nothing will change, except Washington will get bigger and more intrusive in my life and wages.

He touts a meaningless bill that will never be enacted (just like my RINO congressman did. Of course, silence when they vote to cave and increase taxes but not cut spending.

Mr. "Speaker", actions speak louder than words.

Politicians don´t spend millions of dollars to get elected because they want the salary money.

They get wealthy the old fashioned way.

Graft and corruption, selling influence and votes.

How ´bout no budget.....no funding for the government ?

This is a joke and a bad one.

Good article which details what House Republicans have done every year-pass a budget .
And what the majority Senate Democrats have not done a single year-pass a budget.
When Boehner sends the House passed budget
to Reid-he ignores it.
Saying that Boehner gets rolled is an
unrealistic description of the legislative and
Constitutional reality that Boehner
has to deal with.
Limbaugh spouts this nonsense all the time.
He tells his listeners that Congressional Republicans
never fight, they always cave.
Which is patently false and slanderous.
He obviously has no idea how Congress works or that Republicans
have a shrunken House majority and
a 10 seat deficit in the Senate.
And then there´s trying to deal with the Obama White House.
If Limbaugh has all the answers, he should run for Congress and stop insulting elected Republicans
who are not the rotten, weak bums he always
claims they are.

I´ll point out that John Boehner asked for a $800 billion dollar tax increase without being asked by obama.

I read the whole article and never saw Limbaugh mentioned.

What was mentioned was the behavior of the democrats, and the actions of the congress.

In my copy of the article, anyway.

The cynicism about everything Boehner is his very own fault. He has brought it all on himself. None of his speeches or statements mean a thing because it never turns into bold decisive action. You have to fix your own house before you demand that of the other side. Real basic. Real true.

We DO know how the system works. The Republicans control the purse strings. Sadly not ONE program or agency has been "defunded" since Boehner and Company took control of OUR House. Time for the House Republicans to grow a set and start pulling back the funding....

Before we proceed further with this Bash Boehner Orgy, let us consider what HAS been achieved with just bare majority in one chamber.
1. Over 90% of the Bush tax cuts made permanent
2. AMT patch fixed permanently.
3. Capital gains held to 15% for people under $300K.
4. Death tax limit raised to $10 mill per couple
If Ryan´s two tax rates 10 and 25 % are enacted, all our problems will literally self solve.
None of this the ´Rats were ready to even discuss before. Let us deliver the Senate in ´14 and watch the fun.

It is good that John Boehner wrote this article. I hope that it is the begining of much more concerted effort on the part of Republicans to communicate clear, simple messages of common-sense government that resonate with the public. You can have the best ideas in the world (like smaller, limited government), but they do you no good if you do not connect with voters.

The Democrats need to be painted for what they are: Tax-and-spend fiends. The public does need to be reminded that the Senate has failed to pass a budget for four years now. The idea that members of Congress shouldn´t get paid so long as they do not perform their essential duties (like pass a budget) just might resonate with voters. It is a concept the average person can "get" without spending too much time or intellectual capital on it. If you don´t do your job, you shouldn´t get paid for it.

Keep it up, John. And hold the Dems´ feet to the fire. Put them on defense for a change.

As #13 pointed out, Boehner has accomplished some very important things. However, that doesn´t mean he is free to stop. Boehner points fingers at Obama and the Senate dems, fine, but so what? What is he doing about it? The House holds the purse strings, so prioritize the spending and allocate the funds. Use your power to do something Boehner because they are not going to fix it. No sense in just pointing your fingers at them. Use what power you have to fight for this country.

Reply 16 - Posted by: Starlady, 2/3/2013 4:48:21 PM     (No. 9156215)

Increased communication with the public certainly is a good thing. Unfortunately I don´t see the LSM allowing it wider coverage. Anything GOP has to be stifled unless is is bad news.

Reply 17 - Posted by: geneinnyc, 2/4/2013 1:35:39 AM     (No. 9156776)

Those tempted to criticize Boehner should save it for the 3 million GOP voters who stayed home on election day, and the Tea Partiers who nominated Murdoch and Akin, and Murdoch and Akin themselves for not dropping out when it became clear that they had sabotaged their own campaigns and could no longer win.

Like many, I was troubled by Boehner before, for negotiating with Obama, one-on-one, but he´s played a masterful hand ever since. Now that Boehner has turned the tables as much as they could be turned and put the onus on the Senate, I look forward to seeing what the Senate passed. My prediction: Reid will have zero GOP votes and not enough Dem votes to pass a tax increase, yet, thanks to Boehner´s deft maneuvering, the Senate will have to pass something.

Should be interesting to see what Obama does when presented with a bipartisan bill that cuts spending and does not raise taxes.

White House officials have decided to go ahead with annual garden tours this year despite sequester cuts, an official familiar with the decision tells POLITICO. "It is chilling to imagine an Arizona school child being shut away in a padded room, no larger than a closet, for hours on end," Brewer said after signing the law Friday. "There has to be a better way." With the new law, Arizona will join more than 30 other states that impose rules on the restraint of students in public schools.

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Writing in the blog The Review, J.P. Freire performs a devastating examination of how the Associated Press eulogized former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on Monday versus how the news service examined the legacy of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez upon his death. What Freire found was an evident sense of admiration for Chavez’s accomplishments as the Latin American state’s autocratic leader, but a distinct lack of respect for Thatcher’s achievements in office. “Love her or loathe her, one thing’s beyond dispute: Margaret Thatcher transformed Britain,” AP opened the former U.K. prime minister’s obituary on Monday.

Is ObamaCare the reform to end all other reforms? The massive health care law´s problems are well known. Major tax hikes and Medicare cuts will fund a massive new government program, rather than shore up the nation´s finances. ObamaCare already is encouraging companies to cut jobs and work hours. With the administration delaying the insurance exchanges that might help small businesses until 2015, even ObamaCare cheerleaders are growing worried. And the law will leave tens of millions of Americans without health coverage. That´s the best-case scenario,

Even as Congress prepares to debate whether to legalize 11 million illegal immigrants and give them a path to citizenship, analysts are cautioning lawmakers to focus on the other part of immigration: assimilating them fully into America. All sides in the debate agree that assimilation is critical, but in a report being released Monday, the Hudson Institute, a conservative-leaning think tank, says the country has failed on that account in recent years. They found that immigrants — even those who earn U.S. citizenship — have far less attachment to their new home than native-born Americans.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
