I was annoyed throughout the article with the snobbishness of the writer who saw nothing of the beauty of this area of America, and bemoaned its ´lack of culture´. Well, those people who call the Great Plains ´flyover country´ will never, ever, get it.

Although Obama bragged that oil production is up in the USA, he neglected to mention that it is only UP on private land, because the gov´t can´t get their hands on it to shut it down.
The entire country could be booming if Obama would get out of the way.

FTA: Even a well-publicized investigation by the news Web site ProPublica that reported that there were more than “1,000 accidental releases of oil, drilling wastewater and other fluids” in North Dakota in 2011 passed without much fuss.
The authors should ask themselves, how many accidental releases of heating oil got reported in NY? How many spills are reported in NY putting gasoline into filling stations? How many septic tank draining companies improperly disposed of the water they removed? When you are drilling 100 wells a month, you get into a groove where you do it right the first and every time. It costs too much money to do otherwise.

That has a positive side. People love to explore the Badlands and rock formations in the western Dakotas. They love to hunt, fish and photograph the bounty the grassland and waterways have to offer. If New York Times folk see such activities as beneath them, that means they´ll never venture to this part of the country and ruin it.
On a frosty morning spent hunting for deer and moose, there´s no place to put one´s latte and French pastries. There´s no room for them in an ice fishing hut, either. Got to save space for your beer.

Actually, I´ve always considered "big city culture" to be rather shallow. Much of it is so very self-centered. OK for a cursory visit but very lacking in long term satisfaction. About like going to a strip club.

Many ideas presented as "new" are just rehashes of old ideas that have been tried before -- and have failed before. So it is no surprise that the recent "Growth and Opportunity Project" report to the Republican National Committee is a classic example of what previous generations called "Me too" Republicanism. These are Republicans who think that the key to winning elections is to do more of what the Democrats are doing. In effect, they say "me too" on issues such as immigration, in hopes of gaining more new votes than they lose by betraying their existing supporters.

A Florida Atlantic University student who filed a complaint against his professor after he was ordered to stomp on the name of Jesus has been brought up on academic charges by the school and may no longer attend class, according to documents obtained by Fox News. The “Notice of Charges” against Ryan Rotela is contrary to a statement the university released late Friday night saying no one had been disciplined as a result of the classroom activity. America would not be such a place. The Boy Scouts of America are in the news again, for the only thing they ever seem to be in the news for anymore: their attitudes toward homosexuals. Next week, the Scouts will hold a vote that´s widely expected to end the blanket ban on gays joining as members or holding adult leadership. By most accounts, the century-old organization will probably let individual chartering groups—many of which are churches—decide whether homosexuals can join and help run their troops.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs.
