For Sen. Robert Menendez,
allegations tarnish a shining moment

Star Ledger [Newark,NJ], by Christopher Baxter

WASHINGTON — John Kerry wiped away a tear Wednesday as he said farewell to Senate colleagues who had gathered in the chamber to wish him well as the next secretary of state. But conspicuously absent was Sen. Robert Menendez, who a day earlier had been approved to replace Kerry as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, one of the most coveted posts on Capitol Hill. The achievement marked an improbable ascension by Menendez, 59, born to Cuban immigrants, raised in gritty Union City and practiced in the hurly-burly of Hudson County politics. Yet the week hardly had

Amazing for the Star-Ledger to even acknowledge an allegations NOW. Of course they did everything they could to hide the information BEFORE the election to have the "shining moment".

Yet life with liberals is to find out the truth EVENTUALLY. They are still mad that their monopoly on information is broken. They can delay but not the inevitable.

If Lurch wiped a tear leaving the Senate, it´s only because he will no longer get inside stock deals for his wife to capitalize on. Now he´ll have to figure out how to cash in being SoS.

What is a “scapegoat”? “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek has clarified a controversial decision on the long-running game show that sparked angry responses last week. Trebek became the unlikely target of scorn after a controversial decision regarding a final Jeopardy answer from Thomas Hurley, a Newtown, Conn., eighth-grader who was participating in the show’s Kids Week competition. Hurley and his fellow contestants were asked to name the 1863 document Abraham Lincoln said was a "fit and necessary war measure.´´ The answer – or question, rather – was the Emancipation Proclamation.

President Barack Obama held a rare press conference on Friday afternoon in the East Room of the White House, and was treated to all-too-common deference by the White House Press Corps. Only Ed Henry of Fox News asked a question that challenged the president in any way. The rest asked soft questions that often invited him to take shots at the Republican opposition and repeat talking points he has made repeatedly in recent speeches. President Obama began the press conference with a recapitulation of his efforts to grapple with the task of balancing national security with privacy rights

Their friendship reportedly developed into a romance shortly after Mr Fenty announced he was leaving his wife,

President Barack Obama announced Friday afternoon that the White House will publicly release a summary of the legal authorities through which the National Security Agency conducts its controversial surveillance programs. ´Given the history of abuse by governments,´ he said, it is important to explain how such a program is managed, and - equally important - what it may not do. He described his working relationship with Vladimir Putin as ´candid´ and ´blunt,´ and seemed to dismiss concerns that the Russian president´s body language indicated a lack of willingness to work with the United States.

Ending a war is a good thing. Killing civilians a bad thing. Deliberately targeting civilians is murder, and is never morally licit, even in pursuit of a good thing such as ending a war. The tens of thousands of Japanese non-combatants we killed 68 years ago this week with two nuclear bombs were not “collateral damage” of military strikes. They were the intended targets. We hoped that mass murder would bring the Japanese emperor to surrender. It worked, and American and Japanese soldiers’ lives were probably saved by it —

The policy is called, "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing." It will require HUD to gather data on segregation and discrimination in every single neighborhood and try to remedy it. But analysts said the talk of Snowden’s role in the cancellation obscured a more basic reality: The U.S.-Russia relationship is now so frosty that it didn’t appear the two presidents would actually accomplish enough to merit such a high-profile meeting. After four years, the much-vaunted reset in U.S.-Russian relations has devolved into a chilly standoff over issues like the Kremlin’s support for Syria
