Our Foreign Policy Establishment:
Looking for Love in
all the Wrong Places

American Thinker, by Clarice Feldman

Like the addlepated women who write love letters to an imprisoned murderer in the belief that the love of a good woman will turn him around, the U.S. foreign policy establishment repeatedly acts as though the power of their love and financial generosity will turn foreign thugs into responsible democratic leaders. They did this with the Soviet Union until Reagan upset their game, and now they are doing it with the Islamists. This week there´s been lots of ink on the disastrous affairs in the Middle East and North Africa and I´ll discuss what I consider the best of the commentary

This is one of the rare times when I disagree with the brilliant Clarice Feldman. She entirely misses the point here. They´re not "looking for love," they´re giving it. Totally. 100%. Sympatico.

Our foreign policy is the same as making a bully his own sandwich so he doesn´t steal yours. The point of the bully isn´t your sandwich but to show his superiority. In other words appeasement targets the wrong thing.

Hitler´s goal was world domination and no acts of appeasement would have changed his mind on that but it didn´t stop British liberals from trying. So nowtheAmerican and European leftists thinks they can become friends with radical islam and peace and harmony will break out. The problem is muslims don´t care about material things, the things liberals like to bargain with, like foreign aid. Sure they´ll take the money, then buy weapons to destroy your allies.

Big Islam is playing people like Obama and Clinton for fools and a conduit to get what they really want down the road, the destruction of western civilization.

Islam picked people who they knew were already anti American to make their job easier.

Nobody bothered muslims after 911,yet the left still claims we´re islamophobes.

The left will never get it through their heads that conservatives judge people on behavior, not race.

It´s hard to tell right now if Obama´s foreign or domestic policies are the worse right now.

If Leftists were willing to extend the same respect and trust to their domestic political adversaries that they invariably give to declared foreign enemies of America, there would be much smoother sailing on the political mare nostrum.

This week President Obama, following a long string of bloopers that the media underplays or ignores, spelled respect "R-S-P-E-C-T´". It was a fitting blunder in a week in which he and America´s left wing took a series of pratfalls. To start off, Medea Benjamin, master media manipulator and water carrier for countless leftist tyrants, winged into Cairo apparently to lend her inestimable support to the Moslem Brotherhood. The Egyptian government treated her less courteously than did the Democrat legislators who regularly let her and her pinko buddies disrupt Congressional hearings. In one instance her team, which had certainly been invited in by Democrats

When Paul Audley took the job as president of FilmL.A. in late 2008, he was astounded to discover that physical production on the $70 million pic “Battle: Los Angeles” wasn’t being done in Los Angeles.“It stunned me that the movie was shooting in Louisiana, and that the state of California was letting this happen,” he recalls. In the subsequent five years, the situation has only worsened, despite the film production incentive program California enacted in 2009, which provides for $100 million a year in tax credits for what’s usually 20% of production costs. That’s significantly smaller than programs offered by other

Nothing better depicted Obama´s illegal tampering with the clear words of ObamaCare -- his announcement this week that he was delaying the employer mandate for medium-sized companies -- than Michael Ramirez´ brilliant cartoon showing the law as a blank page in which Obama had continually changed its words and meaning. Along similar lines, Charles Krauthammer observes: But generally speaking you get past the next election by changing your policies, by announcing new initiatives, but not by wantonly changing the law lawlessly. This is stuff you do in a banana republic. It´s as if the law is simply a blackboard on which Obama

In the business world, a diligent board of directors would have long ago fired CEO Obama. Sometimes it takes only a year of less than expected earnings to result in the termination of a corporate CEO. A couple of underperforming years and a few reasons more, and a CEO would have his bags packed and stowed underneath his buck-stopping desk. A long list of problems -- especially one suggesting even a hint of fraud -- that fails to generate a satisfactory board response would stir shareholders and lenders to demand the resignation of not only the CEO and other key employees,

This week the big story was the tag end of the old JournoList gang trying to spin gold out of the dross of the Congressional Budget Report. The CBO report projected that by 2021 under ObamaCare more than 2 million full-time workers will find it financially advisable to quit work entirely or switch to part-time jobs in order to get more subsidies for healthcare insurance. To most of us who studied real economics or just paid attention to human nature, subsidizing indolence means you´ll get more of it. This week to an ever-diminishing audience President Obama outlined a pedestrian plan for the remainder of this year, amidst the usual hornswoggle of invited guests in the gallery and dubious daytime TV style anecdotal stories of their lives. More popular than ever is the wish that we could return to State of the Union messages being delivered on paper to Congress. In the meantime my friend Ignatz, the genius Sultan Knish (Daniel Greenfield) and even Vladimir Putin offered up some sage observations which underscore the rot at the heart of the administration and his party and the likely consequences of their

Contradicting the faultless, albeit far-fetched image he has of himself, Barack Obama is a man harassed by truth. That´s why, judging from his inability to accept personal responsibility, Barack Obama must be living in a constant state of agitated cognitive dissonance. The late Leon Festinger is the social psychologist who proposed the theory of cognitive dissonance. According to Festinger, until the person suffering with perceptual disharmony can find a way to justify wrong actions and decisions, it´s impossible to achieve a calm mental state, especially when those wrong actions and decisions challenge the way the cognitively dissonant individual sees himself.

In 1994 or early 1995 the still unknown Barack Obama sent his editor at Times Books, Henry Ferris, the first two-thirds of his memoir Dreams from My Father. He told Ferris that to complete the book, he had to return to Kenya to do some research. The evidence strongly suggests that Obama went not to Kenya to do that research but to the local library to do some borderline plagiarizing. In the way of background, Barack and Michelle Obama visited Kenya in the summer of 1992 and married in October of that year. There is little dispute about the timing of

Is Mitt Romney getting the band back together? The 2012 Republican presidential nominee has invited his debate prep advisers and senior campaign aides to his mountaintop chalet in Park City, Utah, for a weekend of skiing later this month, according to two people close to Romney. The reunion of Romney´s political brain trust comes amid a burst of positive buzz about the former Massachusetts governor -- from favorable reviews of "MITT," the Netflix documentary about his campaigns, to chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.—Rand Paul handily won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday, one gauge of the Republican base’s mood less than two years before the 2016 primary season kicks off. The Kentucky senator received 31 percent, far ahead of second place Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who received 11 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson finished third with 9 percent, ahead of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who received 8 percent. The announcement came at the end of the group’s annual three-day confab. Organizers said that 2,459 attendees voted on computer kiosks.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage. The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth. So the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet well into its flight Saturday morning over the South China Sea has led aviation experts to assume that whatever happened was quick and left the pilots no time to place a distress call. (Snip) The problem had to be big enough, he said, to stop the plane´s transponder from broadcasting its location, although the transponder can be purposely shut off from the cockpit.

The Boeing 777-200ER flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had been missing for hours when Vietnam´s Tuoi Tre news quoted Admiral Ngo Van Phat as saying he had asked boats from an island off south Vietnam to rush to the crash site. If the report is confirmed, it would mark the U.S.-built airliner´s deadliest crash since entering service 19 years ago. Malaysia Airlines had yet to confirm that the aircraft had crashed.
