| Iran yesterday revealed its most recent indigenous fighter jet — the “Qaher 313?. The prototype Q-313 was presented to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as a ceremonial gift during the country´s Ten-Day Dawn celebration. The festivities commemorate the 1979 revolution when the U.S. embassy in Tehran taken by force. In the previous days, the Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi had said, “The aircraft will be different from the other fighter jets Iran has already made.” Indeed, based on the first photographs released by the FARS News Agency, the new stealthy jet has a peculiar design.
|
Comments: It may be technologically inferior to a western fighter jet, but it could still wreak havoc in a Gulf skirmish.

I have done some serious checking on this. It is another Iranian hoax. The fighter in the "show room´ is a wooden mock-up. The ejection seat is real, but, from a trainer. The cockpit display has been shown to be from a few cell phone displays and an I-pad type device. The video whoing it "flying" is a model airplane, radio control, which is admitted in their language "squirggly writng". One of the first things experts took now of was the fact they do not show the aircraft in taxi mode, full scale, on a runway. they just suddenly show this flying video. Based on the jerky way the airplane is flying, with sudden maneuvers, erratic in level flight, it´s most definitely a light weight balsa or fiberglass model (supporting the Farsi explanation under the video). So, until we see it at the Paris Air Show, it´s just another Iranian hoax, kind of like their silly monkey in space hoax.

Kelly Johnson of Skunk Works fame, when he first saw the F-22 stealth bomber, said, “Well, it goes to show that with enough power you can make an outhouse fly.”
This thing looks like and outhouse, but with those tiny air intakes, it can’t have much in the way of power.
It’s fake.

#11, reminds me of our saying about the F-4; given enough thrust, a crowbar WILL fly.
Can we see an actual human next to the thing to get some size perspective? Perhaps start, taxi, takeoff, maneuvers, etc? A photo of a model airplane doesn´t impress me much.
In this story I went to the link about the Saeqeh ´fighter´ [http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9006180081] which looks exactly like an F-5, very limited range and armament. The Saeqeh is called the Thunderbolt, and they also have a jet called the Azarakhsh, or Lightning. Both look like short range F-5s. And I know what you´re all thinking: sing it with me: "Thunderbolt and Lightning, very very frightening, ME!"
If you guys want to tangle with the US Navy, I say bring it!!!!

The US sold the Iranians F-5s and F-14s during the 60s and 70s before the revolution. That airplane is an F-5 with a remanufactured twin-tail "boat tail." The single tail F-5/T-38 boat tail uncouples from the fuselage so one can work/replace the engines.
It is nothing new and it seems Baghdad Bob has a new gig. Yawn.

A retired man has fallen victim to a pet poodle hoax after his local veterinarian uncovered he had been sold two giant rodents pumped up with steroids. Bargain hunters rummaging around Argentina’s largest flea market, La Salada, have been duped into spending hundreds of dollars on what they have been told is the dog of their dreams. In reality, they’ve just been sold what locals call the ‘Brazilian rat’ – a ferret pumped up on steroids and groomed to resemble a fluffy toy poodle. KABUL, Afghanistan -- A NATO airstrike in eastern Afghanistan killed 11 civilians, 10 of them children, in addition to the Taliban militants it was trying to hit, Afghan officials said. The strike late Saturday in the Shigal district of restive Kunar province near Pakistan was called by coalition forces after they and their Afghan counterparts came under an attack that killed one American advisor and badly wounded four Afghan troops. Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

The US defence department has delayed an intercontinental ballistic missile test that had been planned for next week at an air force base in California amid mounting tensions with North Korea, according to a senior official. Defence secretary Chuck Hagel reportedly decided to put off the long-planned Minuteman 3 test until next month because of concerns the launch could be misinterpreted and exacerbate the Korean crisis. "This is the logical, prudent and responsible course of action to take," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The test was not connected to the ongoing annual

LOS ANGELES — The role of female talk show hosts in late-night TV network history, all 50-plus years of it, can be summed up in two words: Joan Rivers. It takes just another two — Arsenio Hall — to do the same for minorities. There´s no indication that´s going to change in the latest round of musical chairs involving "Tonight" and "Late Night." The fast-food chain says it´s introducing deep-fried boneless chicken pieces on April 14 as an alternative to its traditional breast, thigh and drumstick pieces. The new offering reflects the growing popularity of nuggets and strips that are easier to eat on the go, as well as Americans´ seemingly endless desire for more convenient foods. KFC says nearly four out of five servings of chicken sold in the U.S. are now boneless. Based on customer trends

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
