Do we really need a ´policy intervention´ to prevent cats from chasing mice?

| You can´t make stuff like this up. The Huffington Post reports that a new study, led by Scott Loss of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, is calling attention to the baneful problem of domesticated cats chasing mice, birds, and other prey to kill and eat them. Oh, the horror. Our findings suggest that free-ranging cats cause substantially greater wildlife mortality than previously thought and are likely the single greatest source of anthropogenic mortality for US birds and mammals

If you´ve ever had mice get into your house, you are grateful that cats kill them. I live in a very old farm house out in the boonies and, when we moved in, there were mice. They leave their little scat EVERYWHERE. Fortunately we had six cats - problem solved.

Read this a couple days ago and just rolled my eyes. There certainly is a population (unfiortunately growing) f ill informed and emotionally stunted individuals who cannot understand any factual information until it has been passed through the "utopian" filter.
To these children the world existed in some kind of utopian balance of harmony and peace until Evil Europeans left their devastated continent to spread pestilnce and ignorance across the globe. Indigineous peoples had vast wisdom destroyed by whites, the environment was pristine and harmonious. There was no death, indigineous peoples had some mystic higher plane of existence which allowed them to self regulate there impact so that nature was left in its proper utopian balance.
This is the root of the "cruing Indian" anti littering campaign of the 70´s. Its also tripe of the first order. Read accounts of explorers entering indian camps for the first time. Their first impression is often the unbelievable stench, this from a group of people whos own hygiene would be quite questionable.
Indigineous peoples Survived due to low population. They worked one area until it was entirely depleted, they would shoot the last deer or eat the only remaining rabbit if they could. They defecated in the streams, threw their garbage in the dirt and burned and cut down everything they could. When the area was too devastated to support them/\.
Then they picked up and moved a couple dozen miles and started over. All of the greens views and policy desires are based on this ine flawed utopian view. As more and more of them are completely divorced from the nature they worship (most eco whiners are urban city dwellers) this ignorant and simplistic view has only grown stronger.

Back in the 90´s someone on the SF city council proposed rounding up and euthanizing all cats. It was to protect the song birds. How lovely the city would be with all the song birds and every car covered in pigeon poo.

Three of the four Attercliffe cats want to know what a mouse is. The fourth says, "Where is it, lemme at it!"
Hence, three out of four cats are not interested in mice.
Btw, an absolutely amazing coincidence arises as this article comes out within a short time of similar studies in the UK and Australia. Isn´t it odd how these coincidences pop up so often? And I reiterate: liberals, generally speaking, don´t like cats. This is probably because most cats are not as needy as dogs.
I want to know how many rodents (and cats) are killed by hawks, owls and other raptors. And what about our fish supply--my goodness the amount of sea creatures snagged by pelicans, white, little and great blue herons, seagulls, ospreys, eagles and other avian fishers around here could probably feed a starving family for at least a year on just half a day´s catch.

Only the bozo-brained would yearn for a return to the Bubonic Plague days...
And only the dain-bramaged raise hell about cats killing birds - while studiously ignoring the 10´s of thousands of birds killed in VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW - by the great holy untouchable *wind power* industry.
Which leads to the conclusion that liberals are adept at whining about kittens, but a bit less blow hard when the wind is blowing in their preferred direction.

What I want to hear is how somebody sold this idea for a study to the grand high poobahs at some college or federal grant-o-rama.
Sure, I can see a couple science geeks over a Lite Beer by Miller saying, "wonder if we could score a few grand studying how many birds and mice that a cat kills?" Other geek says, "no way", geek no 1 says "way" and they decide to give it a whirl.
But ... well, I forget. Our universities and federal grant givers are full of low information voters. And they all think they´re taking it from the rich guy.
Never mind.

#3, actually, early accounts are of a plentiful population of Native Americans. “Like a hive of bees” a Columbus voyager called it. By the time later explorers arrived disease had already decimated the native population, leaving evidence of abundant early villages where now only scattered motley groups remained. What the early reports of stench in the villages referenced was the appalling number of unburied corpses resulting from smallpox wiping out entire villages. It is estimated that over 90% of the population decimation of Native Americans was due to disease, spread not only by humans, but also by pigs introduced t to North America by early Spaniards.

We need a coupla enterprising conservative geeks to do a study on grant monies handed out and how the results have changed the world say a decade hence. These people are absolutely mad. They moan and groan about human overpopulation, underpopulation of wildlife - they are free to set an example and show the world they are committed and sterilize themselves, etc.
Saw in my dr.´s office the other day (CNN TV programming) pushing the idea that we should begin eating insects due to low cholesterol, high in protein, etc. It will solve world hunger - it´s the new agenda - dis-arm and dis-food. Yeah, set the example libs....

It´s one thing for President Obama to be cocky and overstate his prowess at governing. People are used to politicians grabbing credit, and besides, you can always rationalize when it comes to explaining why things didn´t quite work out as you claimed they would - "the sequester ate my recovery" being the latest successful-enough example. But sports is something else. The basketball either goes through the hoop or it doesn´t. That´s why President Obama´s history of braggadocio regarding his prowess at hoops is having a potent effect on his overall public image, especially with those who are favorably inclined to him.

We have already seen Peak Obama; from here on, it´s going to get rougher and rougher for Barack Obama. Even worse, the one word he must fear the most has just been uttered by a man regarded as a bit of a truth-teller among liberal elites. Joe Klein, the celebrated author "Anonymous," who wrote the best selling, truth-telling book Primary Colors about the 1992 primary campaign that brought us President Bill Clinton, has made it ok for liberals to apply the word "incompetence" to the Obama administration. This represents something of a breakthrough. Until now, it has been taboo

The CEO of Starbucks basically told a shareholder that if the shareholder believes in traditional marriage he should dump his Starbucks stock. Historically the job of the CEO has been to make money and increase shareholder value. It would seem telling people who don´t share the CEO´s personal beliefs, whether it´s gay marriage or abortion, to dump the companies stock is not a pro-shareholder action. This is another example of the liberal belief that everything belongs to liberals because they´re just so darn much smarter than the rest of us

News is breaking out all over: global warming stopped 20 years ago. A political earthquake has resulted from a feature story in the Economist magazine because the Economist used to be a consistent cheerleader for global warming activism. Doubts about global warming used to be censored by its London editors, one reporter confided to Stephen Hayward. So what will voters do to Democrat candidates in 2014 and 2016 when the former realize that the Democratic Party was lying to them? Is it time to run away from the issue for Democrats, journalists, and Hollywood personalities?

In the girl section of the Wall Street Journal last weekend Matt Ridley had an article on nice vs. nasty, cooperation vs. competition. Researchers have found, he writes, that families that stay together cooperate better than families that are far apart. This is not the first work to find mathematical evidence that there are conditions under which cooperative behavior drives out selfish behavior... So long as there is little geographic mobility, clusters of networked kin and friends develop, putting an advantage on being nice. Who knew?

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
