Hillary Clinton Exits Politics:
Her Enduring Legacy

Newsweek, by Michael Tomasky

Original Article

Posted By:BuckeyeRon, 2/2/2013 9:32:21 AM

And now, as of this week, Hillary Rodham Clinton becomes something she has not been in two decades: a private citizen. A mind-boggling thought, really, rich in amusingly prosaic implications. Will she drive a car? Is she going to pop up at the Safeway (you’re supposed to bring your own bags now, Madame Secretary!) or be found standing in line at the Friendship Heights multiplex? She’ll still have Secret Service protection, and she has more than enough money to send other people out on a CVS run. But even so, she is now, for the first time in a very...

Which raises the question, what is Huma going to do? Is she going to be a fulltime housewife for her very own Weiner? Will she continue to hold a government position for the next four years, and when Hillary is elected president, Huma can step in as her chief of staff?

Hillary will soon be offered a lucrative position as an occasional NBC world analyst to maintain her visibility. Harvard, Yale and Princeton will also toss visiting lecturer offers her way. The Rockefeller Foundation will offer her a key role in its Manhattan headquarters. Major corporations will want her on their boards. Finally, she´ll spend time selecting a ghost writer for two or more books for $15 to $25 million. Her book on her accomplishments as SoS will reach # 1 on the Fiction Best Sellers list. Book will be turned into a movie for release in 2016. Kate Upton will play Hillary. Finally, a line of Hillary safety helmets and protective eyeglasses will be mandated for everyone over 50 by HHS. She is not going away, unfortunately.

How many today remember Hillary´s role in the Arkansas Whitewater scandal where elderly couples were cheated out of their life savings?
Or her payoffs from Tyson Foods when Bill was Governor? Or the questionable death of Vince Foster?

Don´t expect the media to mention these.

Enduring legacy? If, God forbid, she died tomorrow, what accomplishments would her obituary cite?
Born to wealthy parents on Chicago´s Gold Coast.
7 Sisters education highlighted by a graduation speech of stupifying progressive platitudes.
Minor service in Democrats´ army of attorneys attacking President Nixon.
Married Slick Willie.
Got bribed by Tyson Chicken functionary.
Ran Whitewater real estate scam.
Got cushy job at Rose Law as spouse of Arkansas Attorney General/Governor.
Withheld records of Rose Law in defiance of subpoena.
Gave "Stand by Your Man" speech in support of her sex offender husband.
Villified his sexual victims.
Alienated liberal supporters of government-centric health care with her leadership of the HillaryCare Project, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Carpetbagged her way to election to the Senate while still serving as First Lady.
Did nothing of note in 8 years as senator.
Turned "inevitable" into "outsmarted" in campaign against a man whose only accomplishments were "authoring" two autobiographies.
As SoS:
N. Korea develops nuclear bomb and missile technology.
Iran develops same.
"Reset" with Russia turns into a renewal of the Cold War.
Encourages China to indulge in Imperialism.
Makes friends with dictators like Castro and Chavez while attacking democratic leaders in Honduras and Columbia.
Presides over disastrous erosion of U.S. support in the Muslim world, punctuated by the Bengazi slaughter.

This list of Legacy-creating accomplishments is by no means complete.

I read the entire article in what proved to be a vain search for something Hillary Clinton has ever actually DONE that is specially noteworthy or meritorious. For all of his puffing, the author was unable to provide readers with anything specific. At times he seems to be almost aware of the problem, only to veer away from it into still more fatuous, gushing, embarrassing adulation. We are, as usual, left guessing as to just what it is that makes Hillary so special. It seems that for her admirers, just being Hillary is enough. Her mere existence as a public, political figure proves something for them, though it is hard to see precisely what it is. That women are just as good as men? That despite endless scandals and questions about her integrity and her competence, she remains afloat?

There is no word for this excruciating Newsweek fluff and puff piece but toadying.

Washington — A State Department official on Wednesday offered the first public testimony from an American diplomat who was on the ground in Libya the night last September when the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi was attacked. And he said he was later demoted for raising questions about how the attack was handled. The official, Gregory Hicks, described a frantic series of phone calls from the American Embassy in Tripoli, where he was stationed, to Washington and, ultimately, to J. Christopher Stevens, the American ambassador, who was in Benghazi. He only heard Mr. Stevens utter, “Greg, we’re under attack,”

Call it “Oval Office Couch Syndrome.” By the second term “inside the bubble,” presidents have completely lost touch with reality: Aides and confidants conspire to keep the chief executive insulated from the real world — the bad news, the worse press coverage. They think it’s their job, and lounging on the Oval Office couches, they nod along with the president’s every musing. But this presidency has taken OOCS to new heights — Mr. Obama has only a few trusted aides, and occasional leaks from the West Wing show a paranoid president suspicious of nearly everyone around him.

There is absolutely zero chance that ObamaCare will be repealed while Democrats control the Senate and President Obama is in the White House. Reality also compels some mention of the fact that the GOP has never held a vote on any alternative plan for dealing with the nation’s out-of-control healthcare spending. But reality is a nuisance to Congressional Republicans
