Winslow - For about 12 minutes Friday, Gov. Paul LePage put aside tough political talk to read softly to an audience of more than 100 children. But things briefly turned political during a question-and-answer period at St. John Catholic School when, among questions about what Maine means to him and what he wanted to be when he grew up, LePage also took a shot at the state's public school sytem and then blasted newspapers. LePage, at the South Garand Street school as part of Catholic School Week, read to the group of kindergarten to sixth grade studens from "Baxter at the Blaine House."
I love my governor but the newsrags here in Maine absolutely detest him and are pulling out all the Obama tricks to destroy him. He is right. The Portland Press Herald is owned by Chellie Pingree´s multi-billion dollar husband (she´s democrat Rep.) and a contributor to all democrat causes, and politicians. The paper is unreadable and as soon as my grandson graduates from a local high school (sports, etc.) I´m canceling. I lived in CA for 33 years and the bias wasn´t as obvious as it is here. It´s unreadable.
All the talk about repealing and replacing Obamacare is now apparently going to be backed up with potentially substantive legislation that will be spearheaded by Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) During an appearance on Fox News’ with Megyn Kelly, Cruz stated that he was going to release a plan to repeal Obamacare, and give Americans more healthcare coverage options. Cruz, as well Senators Mike Lee and Marco Rubio, have been at the forefront of the ‘Repeal Obamacare’ movement, for which they had been excoriated for doing so, by Senate moderate John McCain, and others.
On Monday, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said it was disappointing that the Republican establishment is joining Democrats to wage war on conservatives. She also made the point that the same types of establishment politicians and their consultants who shy away from fighting for religious liberty are the same types that do not want to embrace conservatives. Appearing on Mark Levin´s radio show to discuss her book, Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas, Palin called out Republicans who would "shy away from any affiliations with the Tea Party," claiming that "says a lot about them." "There certainty is
Virginia´s incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling helped Democrat Terry McAuliffe narrowly defeat Republican Ken Cuccinelli in several ways. Not only did Bolling refuse to endorse Cuccinelli, he also transferred $446,674 remaining in his gubernatorial campaign committee to his newly formed political action committee, the Virginia Mainstream Project, which spent no money to support Cuccinelli. Bolling´s new political action committee was ostensibly established to support Republican candidates running for the Virginia House of Delegates in 2013 and the Virginia State Senate in 2015. Its relative inactivity, however, suggests it was more likely a place for Bolling to park his 2013 campaign
I just don’t understand it. Everywhere we turn, we conservatives are told we need to moderate, be less extreme, be more bipartisan. The public just wants us all to get along and solve our major problems together. Democratic politicians and the liberal media harp on the alleged extremism of mainstream conservatism, the tea party, Sen. Ted Cruz, conservative talk radio and anyone else who dares to call out President Obama and his Democratic congressional cohorts in plain language for what they’re doing to the country. Nonsense. No one with a modicum of political power is more extreme than Obama’s Democrats are, yet
The latest NBC/WSJ poll finds that more Americans would vote for a third party candidate for Congress than a Republican. 35% of voters prefer a Democrat, which has been steady for three years. Republicans, however, have experienced an 8-point swing against them since they took control of the House. Today, just 28% of voters say they would vote for a Republican for Congress, while 30% would opt for a third party. The GOP Establishment, engaged in open war against the Tea Party and conservatives, is simply committing political suicide. Listening to the consultant and pundit class who inhabit the "Acela line"
On Tuesday, 79-year old Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), now serving his seventh term in the Senate, signaled that he and other members of the Republican establishment are likely to encourage a primary challenge to first term Senator Mike Lee (R-UT). Lee upset former Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT) in the 2010 Utah Republican primary convention in the Tea Party´s first major primary win over a Republican establishment politician. Hatch told the Deseret News and KSL NewsRadio that "[i]t´s time now... for Lee and other tea party Republicans to be ´rehabilitated´ for refusing to pass a budget bill needed to keep the government operating
Peter Schweizer argued that Washington´s political establishment creates threatening bills to scare wealthy interests into making big campaign donations and to hire favored lobbyists, similar to the mafia´s tactic of requiring "protection money" on Friday. Schweizer, President of the Government Accountability Institute and Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large, argued that point during a Friday Yahoo! Finance appearance discussing his new book, Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets. Washington, D.C. runs "just like the mob, except it´s legal," said Schweizer. "If problems are being solved, if things are going smoothly and things are being fixed, a lot of
Sarah Palin´s influence is hardly fading, according to a CNN report. "The Republican establishment can´t stand her. The media mocks her," CNN´s Peter Hamby writes. "But Sarah Palin isn´t going anywhere. Far from it." Sal Russo of the Tea Party Express, echoing the sentiments of former South Carolina Senator and Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint, told CNN that Palin "is the most important endorsement in Republican politics today, by far." "She can move the needle in a primary more than anyone else can," he said. Former Mississippi Governor and legendary GOP moneyman Haley Barbour told Hamby two years ago that Palin could raise
It is hard to prove that Attorney General Holder´s shakedown of JPMorgan Chase for $13 billion was politically motivated. The timing suggests political motivation, in that JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon had spoken out against Obama´s "anti-business" economic policies during the 2012 election campaign. But timing doesn´t prove causation. The circumstances suggest political motivation, in that the charges mostly stem from shady practices at two failed financial institutions that JPMorgan bought to prevent a chain reaction of defaults, at the request of the Bush administration. But Holder´s punishment of public-spirited take-overs, also, doesn´t prove political motivation. The size of the settlement, the largest
Texas Senator Ted Cruz is why ObamaCare is having ´glitches´ a month after its $600 million rollout -- software any contractor could have designed for one million. The president explained that Apple also had glitches when OS7 was rolled out. He is correct and Apple fixed theirs in 24 hours. That´s the difference between private and government enterprise. Rep. Harry Waxman, D- CA, opened his remarks on the rollout of ObamaCare with this astounding statement, "The Affordable Health Care Act is a resounding success." We clarify what ObamaCare and an open market mean to the leftwing liberals orbiting not Planet Earth,
An explosive new book alleges Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) collected over $200,000 in donations from executives and companies just days before holding votes on three bills of critical importance to their industries. The new revelations come on the heels of calls by prominent conservatives like Sean Hannity for Boehner to be replaced as Speaker of the House. Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer’s book, Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets, calls the vote scheduling donation extraction maneuver the “tollbooth” strategy. “You pay money at a tollbooth in order to use a road or bridge,” writes Schweizer.
A new book that argues politicians in Washington manufacture crises and manipulate vote scheduling and other legislative activity as part of a Mafia-like "protection racket" to extort campaign donations is drawing attention from such divergent corners as The New York Times and Sarah Palin. But the book, Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes and Line Their Own Pockets, is predictably not drawing rave reviews from House Speaker John Boehner, whose office is lashing out at author Peter Schweizer, a fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution and an editor-at-large at Breitbart.
Is the president’s Obamacare “fix” part of the Obama administration’s pattern of deceit or a product of its frequent delusion?A cursory discussion with almost anyone who knows anything about the insurance business would have alerted the president to the fact that his proposal is unworkable. The initial take from experts on both the right and the left is that the president did not fix anything yesterday. Insurance industry experts agree that the very idea that canceled health policies can be renewed or extended for one year is laughable
Oprah Winfrey has said racism is still a problem around the world and the only way for it to end is for generations of racists to die out. In an interview with the BBC to coincide with the release of her latest film The Butler, the chat show host said generations had been ´marinated´ in racism. The 59-year-old added that President Obama was treated with disrespect because of the color of his skin and said she feels fortunate to have been born after segregation ended in the U.S. [Snip] She highlighted an incident in 2009 when Republican congressman Joe Wilson
Pollster John Zogby reports in our weekly White House report card that President Obama’s health care program is still troubled, but he gets credit for taking ownership and trying to fix it. "Forget about Iran and unemployment, this week was all about Obamacare and it was a ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ moment. As Tevye would say: ´Un da vun hand, but un da udda hand…´ “So we have the president admitting he broke his promise to Americans when he promised they could keep their plans. And the GOP gloated, mocked, preached doom and a failed presidency, and made a solemn vow to
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Some 50 years after John F. Kennedy´s sole presidential term was cut short by an assassin´s bullets, nearly three-quarters of Americans believe Kennedy will go down in history as an outstanding or above-average president. This is the highest retrospective rating given to any of the 11 presidents who have held office since Dwight Eisenhower. Another fifth of the public sees the slain president as average, while just 3% rank him as below average or poor. Kennedy was killed on Nov. 22, 1963, and the 50-year anniversary of his assassination is being marked by a bevy of new
Last week I was informed by the agent who handles my firm’s health-care insurance that, come 2014, our group plan will be cancelled and replaced with an ObamaCare plan.SNIP Well, here’s how I see it. It sure looks to me as if the President of the United States, members of his administration, and Democratic Congressional leaders didn’t just lie. I think they intentionally perverted the truth. And I think they did it because, if they didn’t, they knew the bill wouldn’t pass through Congress.
Congressional Republicans have Obamacare right where they want it. The idea of a one-year delay of the law, always far-fetched as long as the Democrats controlled the Senate, is suddenly looking plausible. “I think there needs to be a one-year suspension of the entire law, at least, if not a longer suspension,” says Georgia Republican Tom Price. “The Senate Democrats and the president are the ones that have to decide it needs to be done.” When asked about a delay, House Republican whip Kevin McCarthy chuckles but doesn’t answer. Instead, he suggests that the law’s destructiveness could upend the entire health
She didn’t write about ‘Protecting the Heart of Christmas’ at all—instead, the eternally offended governor may have penned the perfect manual for another holiday altogether: Festivus. Initially I planned to ignore this week’s release of Good Tidings and Great Joy, Sarah Palin’s book waging war on the war on Christmas. Few political hucksters milking the culture war for an easy buck peddle antics more shopworn than the annual fear-mongering that secularist Scrooges are coming for our creches. But then I couldn’t stop wondering: What happens when the Queen of Grievance takes up arms on behalf of the Prince of Peace’s
His actor parents are well known activists and Stephen Ira Beatty seems determined to follow in their footsteps. The eldest child of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, who revealed he was transgender at the age of 14, appears in a new public service announcement (PSA) urging New York to change its Medicaid regulation which excludes transgender people from accessing healthcare. Stephen, 21, appears confident and informed as he speaks about the problem, saying: ‘I grew up outside of New York, but I´ve always known I´ve wanted to move here for the city´s vibrant artistic community. ‘As a trans person, I
It´s been a bad week for MSNBC, and a bad week for serious journalism. First, the network learned to regret giving Alec Baldwin a job after he called a photographer a word that is more than a little homophobic. MSNBC have since suspended his show for two weeks. Now, Martin Bashir has scraped the bottom of the proverbial barrel after launching a tirade against Sarah Palin ("America´s resident dunce") that has to be seen to be believed. And you´re warned: it is stomach churning. The beloved liberal journalist used his afternoon TV show to deliver a somewhat justified critique of
The headline is a statement to, not a quote from Boehner, but it was worth the deception to make the point. President Obama has been given so much slack by an enabling Washington D.C. media, that Obama is now hanging onto the rope to avoid falling into the abyss. The fawning media who placed all their political bets on his success, is unwilling to admit publicly (and perhaps even privately) what they know in their brains but unwilling to let their heart in on: Obama is and always was a phony.
U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan told a group of state schools superintendents Friday that he found it “fascinating” that some of the opposition to the Common Core State Standards has come from “white suburban moms who — all of a sudden — their child isn’t as brilliant as they thought they were and their school isn’t quite as good as they thought they were.” Yes, he really said that. But he has said similar things before. What, exactly, is he talking about? In his cheerleading for the controversial Common Core State Standards — which were approved by 45 states and the
WASHINGTON - A terrifying new ‘game’ that’s already caused deaths in Syracuse, St. Louis and New Jersey is sweeping the nation, and it preys upon unsuspecting people walking the streets, anywhere. A recent report from New York-based CBS 2 shed light on the growing trend, displaying unsettling footage of teens participating in this game – which goes by the name ‘Knockout’ – and involves randomly targeting passersby, with the ultimate goal being to knock them out with one punch as they walk by. One victim shown in the footage was 46-year-old Ralph Santiago of Hoboken, N.J., who was found dead with his
