The past few weeks have brought out a different side of Cory Booker.For years, the Newark, N.J., mayor has expertly managed his national image as big city superhero, burnished by made-for-Hollywood feats: rescuing a neighbor’s daughter from a burning building, saving a shivering dog from the bitter cold. But since he started exploring a run for U.S. Senate in December, in the face of tougher media scrutiny that was bound to follow, Booker is showing the unmistakable symptoms of glass jaw syndrome.

He´s been the darling of the beautiful people.
Oprah, Spielberg, etc.
Since he´s gotten more scrutiny it´s obvious that he was an affirmative action acceptance at Yale.
Barely literate.
But he is clean, articulate, and well dressed. (Biden)

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

Two New York Times columnists embarrassed themselves over the weekend, betraying anti-gun ignorance in the paper´s Sunday Review.Frank Bruni went hunting for the first time (with the chef of a ritzy Manhattan restaurant), and remarked "what an unfair fight" hunting is, as if he was the first person to think that up. After lamenting "how thoroughly a weapon can be romanticized and fetishized," he pivoted to easy access to guns in "this country of ours." I could forget, when not aiming at a bird, to keep the gun pointed toward the sky or the ground.

J. David Kuo, an evangelical Christian conservative and former top official of President George W. Bush’s faith-based initiative who drew wide attention when he publicly accused the administration of failing to live up to the values it espoused, died April 5 in Charlotte. He was 44.He was diagnosed a decade ago with brain cancer, his wife, Kimberly, said. The arc of Mr. Kuo’s life and career had taken him from liberal to conservative, from hard-edged Republican activism in the 1990s to disillusionment with the idea that politics could serve as an extension of his faith.

Like most of you, I yearn for shorter winters, more shirt-sleeve weather, less lashing from frigid winds. As a confirmed New Yorker, I’m not willing to do what millions have done: move to the sunbelt. I want warmer weather here in the Big City.But I’ve grown old waiting for the promised global warming. I was 35 when predictions of a looming ice age were supplanted by warmmongering. Now I’m 68, and there’s still no sign of warmer weather. It’s enough to make one doubt the “settled science” of the government-funded doom-sayers.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion.
