Remington being courted by

Observer-Dispatch [Utica NY], by Rob Juteau

ILION —At least five states have contacted the parent company of Remington Arms to encourage the gun manufacturer to relocate in response to New York’s new, tougher gun control laws. Lawmakers from Michigan, South Carolina, Arizona and Oklahoma have all sent letters to Remington’s owner, Freedom Group, since the state Legislature passed tougher gun control legislation two weeks ago. Texas first contacted the company in November 2012. “When you hear news like this it does raise a high level of concern because of what the other states could potentially offer, but at the same time we have reached out

Wish Mississippi were on the list of states courting Remington. I would pit our gun owners against any other state. Bring it on. Even old ladies like me are able to hit the bulls eye...or robber if needs be. My deer hunting days are over...can´t sit that long..but we are well armed in the plumnellie family.

There are three issues with Remington (and other gun MFGers) being in true blue states. First is the all out political assault on them in the current gun control fight (think Rahm Emmanuel in Chi-town). Second is the ever-increasing state taxes in liberal-controlled areas (NY, CA, etc.). And third is the fact that most blue states are not Right to Work states so most of the labor force is unionized.

I´ve been saying this for the last four years. Why would any gun manufacturer remain in a blue state?

Move now why you still can!

Might I recommend GA, NC, SC?

I would bet that many of the employees at the Remington plant are excited about the prospect of escaping New York to more friendly locals. What union represents these employees? The favorable economic implications of moving to a right-to-work state are growing every year.

As a New Yorker I do my very best to convince anyone and everyone to NOT move here. Businesses especially should be discouraged from moving to this blood sucking state. I hope Remington pulls out of here to another state who will welcome them.

Our Governor, a recent candidate for President, has personally asked Remington (and other gun manufacturers) to move to our State. Texas will always be gun-friendly. My children have been raised that way and we are now raising our grandkids to be that way.

Hey, we love firearms in Texas. Everyone has one, or more even. We also don´t have any income taxes.

Yeah, we do get a bit hot in the summer but there is plenty of A/C, and the energy to power it, and plenty of iced tea, too.

I think Remington´s employees will really love moving to Texas.

It is pretty clear that the liberal Democrats are attempting to put much of the generally considered conservative oriented US small arms and related industries out of business by banning just about all the modern firearms that are produced and sold in the USA today. As clearly those industries would have a very hard time surviving by bidding on a diminishing number of military contracts in the future. If those industries are wiped out, the tens of thousands of well paying US jobs in those industries would also disappear, and with them would go all the related technical know how.

It is notable that the liberal Democrats are as silent as church mouses regarding the culpability of the Hollywood movie and the video game industries in their wholesale production of very violent content computer enhanced multimedia presentations, from which they earn billions of dollars some of which finds its way into Democrat campaign coffers, that give criminally insane ideas such as mass murder to unstable young minds present in such peaceful places as rural Connecticut towns.

I´m gonna go out on a limb and guess that economic issues rather than ideological fealty to the Second amendment will determine Remington´s decision. I don´t see how the NY gun-ban law will directly affect Remington´s bottom line, given their nation-wide customer base, unless the NY authorities decide to raid the plant and confiscate the guns and magazines Remington manufactures for the civilized parts of the country that can still buy them. My guess is that Rem will stay put.

The context for this little chestnut of racial nastiness was a heated floor debate in the Illinois legislature over a proposed education reform bill. The fireworks started when Democratic Representative Linda Chapa LaVia, who is Hispanic, delivered a speech criticizing charter schools. Ms. Chapa LaVia was no doubt casting aspersions on behalf of teachers unions — who’ve contributed heavily to her campaigns, are bankrupting the state, and don’t much care for competition. In defense of the status quo — which traps far too many children, especially children of color, in failing public schools — Chapa LaVia appealed to her fellow

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally
