What Difference Does It Make?
Washington Free Beacon, by Matthew Continetti

Original Article

Sophisticates, cynics, and moralists of all stripes long have held that there is not “a dime’s worth of difference” between the Republican Party and the Democratic one, and that elections might as well be settled by a toss of that very same dime. But the talk-show host or fringe activist who assumes such a flippant attitude toward partisan politics might check his beliefs against the events of the past week. Every day brings news that would be utterly different had Mitt Romney won the 2012 election. To answer the question Hillary Clinton recently posed

‘Shut Up Your Mouth, Obama’:
Egyptian Woman’s Anti-Obama
Rant Becomes Viral Sensation
Independent Journal Review, by Mike Miller    Original Article

A video in which an Egyptian woman accuses President Barack Obama of interfering in Egyptian politics has gone so viral in the Middle East, it has inspired knockoffs, photoshopped spoofs and even T-shirts. Normally, I post partial transcripts with videos, but not this time; didn’t want to steal this angry woman’s thunder. Although, here’s a hint: were the video to have an official title, it would undoubtedly be called: “Shut up your mouth, Obama” In any event, this woman’s probably just a “racist.” Although to be fair, Obama did intervene in her nation’s politics to back Morsi, who turned out to be a

Was there a deal with Iran

It seems a long time ago, that dreadful December night in 1988 when fire and aeroplane debris rained down on the Scottish village of Lockerbie. A generation of Britons has been born unaware of the sense of foreboding we all felt that night, when news broke that a civilian passenger flight had been blown up in mid-air, killing 270 people, by a terrorist bomb concealed in a radio cassette player. It is easy to see why a younger generation finds it hard to understand that we need to be wary of Iran and its nuclear ambitions. But, back in 1988, few

Obama threatens to veto bill that would

President Barack Obama would veto a GOP-drafted bill that would allow legislators to take agency officials to court if they don’t enforce laws, according to a White House statement. The GOP is pushing the bill through the House because Obama has repeatedly declined to enforce laws he doesn’t like, say GOP legislators. “President Obama has refused to enforce those parts of our nation’s immigration laws that are not to his political liking, has waived portions of our welfare laws, has stretched our environmental laws to accommodate his policy objectives, and has waived testing accountability provisions required under the ‘No Child Left Behind’

Field Museum research assistant Josh Engel has spent a couple days this week along the lakefront performing the grim task of collecting dead waterfowl. They haven’t been difficult to find. Engel and his Field Museum colleagues collected 30 of the birds that had died close to shore, most of them red-breasted merganser and white-winged scoter ducks. Some were floating and others were sealed in ice; all of them were emaciated. “It’s sort of hard to go out and see — you can practically see them dying,” said Engel, who is also an ornithologist. Republican David Jolly won a crucial special election for House of Representatives Tuesday night in a Florida swing district which Barack Obama won twice. So much for Speaker Pelosi in 2015. In a crucial special election in Florida´s 13th Congressional District on Tuesday, Democrat Alex Sink lost narrowly to Republican David Jolly by a margin of 48 to 46 in a swing congressional district that Barack Obama won twice. (Libertarian Lucas Overby finished with just below 5% of the vote). Something potentially sinister is happening across America, and we should stop and take notice before it changes the character of our country forever. County, city and small-town police departments across the country are now acquiring free military-grade weapons that could possibly be used against the very citizens and taxpayers that not only fund their departments but who the police are charged with protecting. Recently in a small, sleepy North Carolina town of roughly 16,000 people, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department acquired some Humvees and Mine-Resistant, Ambush-Protected vehicles (or MRAPs), which it proudly displayed at a recent car show. A report released Tuesday by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform asserted that ex-IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights. Lerner continues to stonewall California Rep. Darrell Issa’s committee, pleading the Fifth again in a divisive Oversight hearing last Wednesday convened to get to the bottom of the IRS’ improper targeting of conservative groups between 2010 and 2012. Oversight member Rep. Jim Jordan told The Daily Caller that the committee is “moving” toward holding Lerner in contempt of Congress to compel her to testify. “I think that’s where we’re moving,” Jordan said. “I think that’s where this is headed.”

Big Tents and Ideological Purity

The United States, like almost all English-speaking countries, has a two-party political system. That means we have big-tent parties, with a variety of competing political strains under each of the two tents. In other countries, such as Italy and Israel, they have small-tent parties, far more ideologically unified and, indeed, often based on a single political idea. (Snip)The recent CPAC conference certainly displayed a variety of political opinions under the Republican tent, from Rick Perry’s clarion call to unleash the genius of American enterprise, to Chris Christie’s moderate approach, to Rick Santorum’s down-the-line social conservatism, to Rand Paul’s libertarian concern

On economic policy, President Obama has consistently and thoroughly followed just the opposite of everything Reagan did. And that is why he has consistently and thoroughly gotten the opposite of Reagan’s results. Reagan slashed tax rates, with the top income tax rate reduced from 70% when he entered office to 28% when he left. (Federal tax revenues doubled during the 1980s.) Early in his first year, Reagan led Congress to cut federal spending by nearly 5%. Early in his first year, Obama led Congress to enact nearly $1 trillion in utterly wasted “stimulus” spending. Reagan deregulated, Obama overregulated. Reagan backed

House Republicans have a worthy suggestion to protect Ukraine and increase the West’s leverage there: Deregulate American energy production and encourage oil and gas exports. The Department of Energy has been reluctant and slow to approve permits for shipping natural gas overseas, for instance, which the market demands from the U.S. for the first time. Crude-oil exports remain illegal. Energy production on federally owned lands has been dropping. A plan to address all of these issues and more can’t be expected to shift the balance of power in Eurasia — but its economic benefits should have compelled us to start

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent — Leaders of Caribbean nations on Monday unanimously adopted a broad plan on seeking reparations from European nations for what they say are the lingering ill effects of the Atlantic slave trade on the region. A British human rights law firm hired by the Caribbean Community grouping of nations announced that prime ministers had authorized a 10-point plan that would seek a formal apology and debt cancellation from former colonizers such as Britain, France and the Netherlands. The decision came at a closed-door meeting in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. According to the Leigh Day law firm, the Caribbean

You have probably seen all of the ridiculous speculating about the GOP nomination in 2016. This is still speculating, but my sincere hope is you don’t think it’s ridiculous too. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is laying the foundation for his presidential bid in concrete and steel. First, forget about Jeb Bush unless you want to hand Hillary eight years in the White House. The latest Rasmussen poll shows her leading Jeb in a general election 47 percent to 33. His name is Bush and to the general public the specifics of how smart he is doesn’t matter one iota. This was the precisely the experience Connecticut resident, Navy veteran and former firefighter John Cinque had after commenting on his state’s 2013 violation of the Second Amendment. The law in question criminalizes the sale of magazines holding more than 10 rounds and also certain semi-automatic rifles, and mandates that all grandfathered weapons and magazines must be registered with the state.
