Menendez was appointed the the US Senate by then Governor Jon Corzine. Shorty after, he was investigated for renting his childhood home to a non profit group, for the sum of $300,000.00, while he obtained Federal Funds for that same group. It was thought that the group was paying inflated rents to Menendez as part of a deal.

The person who spearheaded that particular 2006 investigation was the partner of NJ Judge Patty Schwartz. The same Patty Schwartz that Obama nominated as Judge to the US Court of Appeals, for the Third Circuit, who´s nomination Menendez held up.

Senator Menendez also accepted illegal campaign contributions, to the sum of $46,900.00 from Joseph Bigia. Senator Menendez claimed he didn´t know, and said he would donate the money to charity.

Menendez also served on the probe of MF Global, the company once ran by Jon Corzine.

Lautenberg was just being his liberal self when he referred to a middle aged man having sexual intercourse with an under aged girl, an infraction.
