| Bucharest, Romania - The scaremongering is all over British tabloids: Romanians and Bulgarians (Pickpockets! Scam artists! Scroungers!) flooding into the UK by the thousands once work restrictions are lifted next year. Tired of the stereotypes, some are striking back.(Snip)In the UK, statistics show that almost 1 million Eastern Europeans have come to Britain over the past decade, and data from the 2011 census showed that Polish is now the second-most common tongue in the country. Romania and Bulgaria are the EU´s poorest nations. Britain´s jingoistic tabloid press has been stoking fears of a second wave of migrants next year.

The Brits don´t really fear an invasion of ´normal´ Romanians or Bulgarians - they fear an invasion of ´gypsies´. France now has a big problem with gypsy crime and Sarko was in the process of deporting them as quickly as he could just before he lost the election.
The UK already has its version of a much earlier gypsy migration - now called ´Tinkers´. Tinkers have a repudiation for scams and petty crime. The travel in caravan and have little in the way of ´´visible means of support´´.

I read the British papers every day and if you read the comments on this subject it is not the crime the regular Brit is worried about. They are worried about more takers on welfare that they can´t afford now. Sounds reasonable to me.
AP is of course trying to make the English people sound like racists.

There is a reason those ads are not targeting say Poland, Lithuania, etc. Romanian is considered ground zero for the gypsies and gypsies have been on the cutting edge of welfare scams. For example:

I do not understand why foreigners, like here in the US, believe that they have a right to come to the US and UK and demand we change to conform to their laws, language and culture.
If I ran the US or UK, I would make immigration very difficult...passing exams, paying a $10,000 entrance fee per person, have the ability to be self-sufficent for five yeras, sponsorship, health tests, etc.
This has nothing to do with racism, but rather self-preservation.

Colorado authorities are questioning two associates of the man suspected in the killing of the state prisons director, a law enforcement source close to the investigation said Thursday. The two men, whom the source declined to identify, are in addition to James Lohr, 47, and Thomas Guolee, 31, two men the El Paso County Sheriff´s Office asked police to be on the lookout for on Wednesday. Williamson, W.Va.- The man suspected of killing a West Virginia sheriff as he ate lunch in his car was mentally disturbed and had no particular vendetta with law enforcement, his father told The Associated Press on Thursday. Melvin Maynard said his 37-year-old son, Tennis Melvin Maynard, was exposed to harmful chemicals and injured while working at an Alabama coal mine. He most likely did not target Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum, he said. "He would have probably shot anybody, the first one he come to, you know what I´m saying?" the elder Maynard said. "I know he was off."

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon.
