Hillary: The Most Poisoned
Baby Name in U.S. History

New York Magazine, by Hilary Parker

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 1/31/2013 6:20:32 AM

I’ve always had a special fondness for my name, which — according to Ryan Gosling in Lars and the Real Girl — is the case for most people. Plus, the root word for Hilary is the Latin word “hilarius” meaning cheerful and merry, which is the same root word for “hilarious” and “exhilarating.” It’s a great name. Several years ago I came across this blog post, which provides a cursory analysis for why Hillary is the most poisoned name of all time. The author is careful not to comment on the details

the Clintons poisoned this name, even though it´s grating to begin with. There´s nothing hilarious or cheerful about Hillary unless you´re getting drunk with her.

They´re so abhorrent they´ve actually managed to create a spillover effect i.e. multiple names have been ruined. Will anyone bother with Chelsea, Monica or Janet?

"Fluff". That´s funny. Fluff like an anchor, OP. =). But it was interesting in a weird way. Statistics fascinate me; and baby names reflect the culture and time.

What I think is most telling is that if there is at least 50% of the population who admire Ms Hillary C, why aren´t (or didn´t) they name their daughters after her?

My conclusion: There are probably a lot of little aborted Hillary´s out there.

I´m very close to someone named Hilary (born several years before Clinton). When she´s introduced or introducing herself, she waits a second for the grin to start on someone´s face and the mouth to begin opening and then says, with great forcefulness, With ONE L. It makes a difference.

True to her roots, she´s very funny and showed a wicked sense of humor long before Clinton came upon the scene. She once considered changing her name but was afraid someone worse would come along with whatever new name she chose. I mean, what would my friend have done if she had chosen Michelle?

Fresh criticism of a Senate bill to extend a lapsed unemployment insurance program has all but killed the chances that it will become law just a week after a compromise deal on the issue raised its prospects for the first time in months. Before the Senate left town last week, 10 senators reached a compromise to reauthorize the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program for five months, in addition to retroactively paying benefits that expired on Dec. 28. The bill was fully paid for and would introduce reforms to the program including ending payments to wealthy individuals and giving more individualized

What could Vladimir Putin’s seizure of Crimea possibly have to do with the upcoming midterm elections in the United States? Indirectly, a very great deal. But only indirectly. It has become the most conventional of conventional wisdoms that American voters have tired of controversies beyond our shores, like Crimea. They want to focus on problems at home, not to get involved in what a notable figure of the 1930s described in a different context as “a quarrel in a faraway country between people of whom we know nothing.” This opinion is supported by an undeniable sea-change in the nation’s attitude toward military

GIG HARBOR, Wash.— The penitentiary here holds more souls than it was ever designed for. Some of the residents are loud and "mouthy," needing lots of one-on-one attention; a few just can´t keep still. Others just want a good tummy rub. Home to female offenders, including murderers, Gig Harbor is one of several prisons across the country that welcome dogs with a bad rap. The Washington Corrections Center for Women here pioneered the concept of matching abandoned, abused and neglected dogs with offenders, many of whom come from backgrounds almost as dire. If Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had followed advice from male law professors like me, she would probably not be where she is today. Her entire career has involved defying expectations and forcing her way into places where she did not “belong”—Harvard Law School, when it was a frankly hostile male enclave; the professoriate, when it also scorned female scholars; the docket of the Supreme Court, at a time when the courts did not recognize sex discrimination as a problem. Now that she is on the Court, she’s being told she doesn’t belong there any more. I doubt she’s paying attention. These reflections are
