Salary details of ONE THIRD of

It has been revealed that secret salary records of more than one-third of Americans have been shared by their employers with the credit rating agency Equifax. Described as one of the biggest privacy breaches of the modern age, 190 million employment and salary records have been sold to debt collectors and financial service companies through an Equifax-owned subsidiary called The Work Number. Originally created as a fast and easy way to check the employment history of new staff, it has been revealed that The Work Number´s database is so detailed it contains week-by-week paycheck information dating back years

Welcome to the brave new world. Just wait until all our trusted government has all your medical records. I love the new technology, but with it comes dangers like this if companies are incompetent and don´t effectively protect this information.

I don´t think it was incompetence, OP. Apparently, Equifax can/does make money from selling this info to various interested parties.

I balked during a preregistration interview by phone, in which the mammogram clerk asked if I was married (why do you need to know?), name of emergency contact--is he friend, brother. . . (let´s say "other"). And so on. The clerk wasn´t happy and said if you are sensitive about your answers, we can put you in a private room with an interviewer when you arrive. I said it wasn´t a matter of that kind of privacy, it was a mater of why you need that information for a mammogram and what do you do with it and how well protected it is. I thought about it overnight, called back the next day, cancelled and made an appointment where they weren´t quite so nosey.

My wife scheduled an appointment with a practice owned by the local hospital. The hospital has been buying up all the local practices since many doctors now prefer to be salaried as opposed to entrepreneurs. The privacy statement sent before her first appointment said that they could use her information for marketing and other uses not related to her billing and/or doctor´s diagnosis. They were surprised that we would not waive our right to privacy when we questioned this.

What´s wrong with this picture?

Equifax kept charging me a monthly fee after I wanted just a trial offer to see all 3 credit scores. They only accept written contact and email to cancel. They scam millions from people.

I beleive we need a law that tells us exactly who and why accesses our info. What if your nosey neighbor decides to check your personal info through their employer ?
Who is to say you never applied for a job there ?

#1 I had a similar experience at a hospital check in once. My emergency contact was sitting next to me. The clerk took their name, address and asked for their SS #. I stopped them from saying anything else. It´s in case you don´t pay your bill. Who knows to stop them but a very few ?

How many people read the inserts in their mail looking for the opt out ? Few.

Our medical information has not been private for some time, sad to say. It will not be protected any better in the future because just like everything else, NOBODY holds anybody truly accountable with consistent high penalties for betraying us.

Joining with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (MDA) and Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) on February 12, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) charged Congress with "complicity" in gun violence. Murphy specifically took aim at those in Congress who have been critical of gun-free zones and have sought ways to allow citizens to arm themselves for self-defense in such zones. Murphy said, "It´s complicity when in the face of increased shootings on public property, some in Congress want to make it easier to bring guns on public property." According to CBS News, Murphy also said Congress was "exacerbating" the "problem of

Two Tea Party senators today introduced companion legislation to a bill that would ensure the federal government recognizes a state’s choice on how it defines marriage. Currently, 33 states define marriage as a union between a man and a woman while 17 states recognize same-sex unions. “How a state should define marriage should be left up to the citizens of each state,” said State Marriage Defense Act co-sponsor Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). “It is clear the Obama administration finds the principles of federalism inconvenient in its effort to force states to redefine the institution of marriage. If you’ve ever watched a Senate floor vote on C-SPAN, you know how it goes. The senator’s name is called by the clerk, the senator votes, and then the clerk publicly announces how he or she voted. Basic legislative accountability. But not this time. Because of the midterms, we’re all going to be in unity mode soon. Here’s a little reminder that that unity is an illusion, papered over periodically as necessary for the greater good of keeping liberals out of power. There are two parties within the GOP and some members of one are represented in Congress by members

In the early days of the Obama administration, “smart power” was all the rage—and not just on the foreign policy scene. In April 2009, National Public Radio reported how one Allentown, Pennsylvania, mother was saving more than a hundred dollars each month on her electric bill. Tammy Yeakel’s power company, PPL Energy, had helpfully installed a “smart meter” on her home that could monitor her power usage in real time. The meter uploaded that information to PPL’s website, so she could identify peak usage times during the day. “I love this site,” Yeakel told NPR. “I called PPL and said, ‘Did

That effort—a colossal and sweeping form of global behavior modification--is supposed to get a new kick-start at a special U.N. summit of world leaders to be convened by Ban in New York City on September 25. Its supporters hope that effort will end next year in a new international treaty that will bind all

There is little doubt Charlie Crist is playing the race card these days. He may also be right. The former governor, who wants his job back, says the infamous hug with President Barack Obama in 2009 that caused convulsions among Republicans was at least partially racially driven. Crist and Obama, you will recall, engaged in an airport man-hug as Obama came to Florida with stimulus cash in hand. Republicans cringed. "I think another part of it was that he was a Democrat, but not just a Democrat, an African-American,” Crist said during an appearance this week on “The Colbert Report.” Crist, who

It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

President Obama has repeatedly suspended parts of the Affordable Care Act without the consent of Congress. The latest unilateral action happened Monday night, when the administration announced another delay of the employer mandate, the law´s provision that businesses with more than 50 employees must provide their employees with insurance starting in 2014 or pay large fines. In July, the president decreed the mandate wouldn´t be enforced at all in 2014, and last night administration officials declared that businesses with 50 to 99 employees wouldn´t be penalized in 2015.
