Gun control fails
rationality test

Washington Examiner, by Randy Barnett

Original Article

On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on the various gun control proposals that have been floated in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shootings. Although they are said to be merely "reasonable regulations" of the Second Amendment´s right to keep and bear arms, most or all of these proposals are irrational and unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has established a two-tiered protection of liberty. Under the lowest tier, "rational basis review," it will uphold restrictions on liberty so long as it can imagine any possible reason why Congress might have adopted the measure. By contrast,

Just as 0bamcare is ultimately not about health care or insurance, this latest power grab is not about guns, violence or children. Fundamentally altering the nature of the relationship between citizens and their government is the real goal.

If "common sense" gun control laws actually had any measurable effect on violent crime these folks might have some credibility. But more gun restrictions merely restrict the rights of the law abiding, who are not causing the problems. Its that simple. Violent cities like Chicago and D.C. are real life examples of how gun laws don´t reduce violence.

You don´t even need to get into the 2nd amendment to shoot down all this nonsense.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is nearly impossible not to like. He has a sunny disposition and seems ever eager to work with Democrats, who have nary a bad word to say about him. He’s highly popular in Nevada, with approval numbers in the mid-60s, and he stays on message as well as anyone in politics. He is, in a phrase, the anti-Harry Reid. Which is why the prospect of Sandoval facing off against the occasionally dyspeptic, sharply partisan and manifestly unpopular Senate majority leader in the 2016 U.S. Senate race has some Republicans writing Reid’s political eulogy. “It would be

An event meant to celebrate diversity and combat racism at a Washington state community college has been cancelled after a flier emailed to guests said white people weren’t invited. A group of employees, under the name “Staff, Faculty and Administrators of Color,” at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia sent an invitation to all 300 staffers to attend a diversity “happy hour,” a local news station reported. School officials were asked to reply to the invitation to find out the confidential date and time of when the event would be held. According to the station, the invite made it clear white

A Baltimore City lawsuit settlement sparks major police policy and training reforms that affect everyone with a cell phone camera. The police department is putting it into writing so their officers fully understand. You can record them and they can’t do anything about it. First Amendment advocates call it a major victory. When police made an arrest at Pimlico four years ago, Christopher Sharp was one of several recording. Officers didn’t like it. “Do me a favor and turn that off. It’s illegal to record anybody’s voice or anything else,” an officer told Sharp. But that’s not true. Sharp says the officers took his phone

Last week, The Hill reported K Street cannot figure out how to lobby Oregon Democrat Ron Wyden, who recently became chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee. Fertility is the missing chapter in sex education. Sobering facts about women’s declining fertility after their 20s are being withheld from ambitious young women, who are propelled along a career track devised for men. The refusal by public schools’ sex-education programs to acknowledge gender differences is betraying both boys and girls. The genders should be separated for sex counseling. It is absurd to avoid the harsh reality that boys have less to lose from casual serial sex than do girls, who risk pregnancy and whose future fertility can be compromised by disease.
