Census 2011: Polish becomes

Telegraph [UK], by John Bingham

An influx of workers from Eastern Europe has transformed the face of the UK over the past decade, with some areas such as Boston, Lincs, and Ealing in west London seeing the most dramatic changes. A total of 546,000 people in England and Wales said that Polish was their “main” language, second only to English in England. A total of 562,000 people said that they spoke Welsh, predominantly in Wales. Although four million people living in England and Wales--or eight percent of the population--said English was not their first language, only 138,000 admitted having no English or Welsh at

Comments:
Apparently, Britain (generally) is 80% white British. Muslims are further down the list than Poles and those from the various parts of the Indian sub-continent.

#5, you don´t know what you´re talking about. Auschwitz was originally bilt to house Non Jewish Poles, who worked as slave laborers for the Nazis. It later expanded to Birkenau which was an extermination center for Jews. During the war, Polish Christian deaths by Nazi hands and Jewish deaths were about equal in Poland. Many Polish Catholics died saving Jews. As an American of Polish descent, I take umbrage with your ignorant post.

If you don´t think the Poles suffered, consider this: Hitler invaded in 1939, starting World War II. At the end of WWII, the Nazis were expelled from Poland--by the Soviets. For Poland, WWII resulted in the exchange of one brutal dictator for another. An interesting movie to watch about the "liberation" of Poland is The Pianist.

Dick Churchill can reasonably claim to be a lucky man. Having been among the 76 prisoners of war to have successfully broken out of Stalag Luft III, only to be recaptured three days later, he was able to escape execution, thanks to his illustrious surname. The very thought that he might be related to the wartime prime minister was enough to give the Nazis second thoughts about including Mr Churchill among the 50 recaptured airmen who were shot as punishment for their involvement in what is now known as the “Great Escape”. One of the most interesting announcements in last week´s Budget--well, for me at least, as someone who has no savings and doesn’t play bingo or drink much--was the new Alan Turing Institute: £220 million of government support will be invested into "big data and algorithm" research. Today, especially with the processing power of modern computing and enormous "big data" analysis, algorithms increasingly influence the media we read, the products we buy, and with whom we socialise. But most of us have no idea what they are. At its core, an algorithm is just a simple formula which must be followed

Britain has generally been welcoming to those who come to this country to share in the benefits of our tolerant, democratic way of life and to make a useful contribution to society. Venetians have voted overwhelmingly for their own sovereign state in a ‘referendum’ on independence from Italy. Inspired by Scotland’s separatist ambitions, 89 percent of the residents of the lagoon city and its surrounding area, opted to break away from Italy in an unofficial ballot. The proposed ‘Repubblica Veneta’ would include the five million inhabitants of the Veneto region and could later expand to include parts of Lombardy, Trentino and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The floating city has only been part of Italy for 150 years. The 1000 year–old democratic Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia, was quashed by Napoleon and was subsumed into Italy

In the case of Crimea, however, where 96 percent of the people voted to return to Russia, the EU was in no position to ask them to think again.
