Center for American Progress’ Christie Hefner: Climate change a factor in Chicago’s murder rate

| On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the Center for American Progress’ Christie Hefner said that Chicago’s sky-high murder rate could be blamed — at least in part — on climate change. “Yes, last year we hit a record number of murders from guns [in Chicago],” Hefner, the former chairwoman and chief executive officer of Playboy Enterprises, said. “And this year we are already outpacing last year’s numbers. Now, there are contributing factors that are not under anybody’s control and may seem odd, but it is factually true.
|
Comments: O M G The entire world has gone mad. What is even more horrifying is that they actually believe what they say. And the Center for American Progress direct 0bama´s (John Podesta who directed 0bama to use executive orders to bypass congress) every move.

In her case, a poll tax would not help but a requirement to pass an intelligence test before you can vote certainly would have stopped her.
There are also dumb Pubbies who vote that shouldn´t. Take the people of Arizona who chose John McCain over J.D. Hayworth. Yes, John McCain, the man who will go down in the history books as the WORST presidential candidate of any party ever.

Is this loonie actually trying to make us believe that if it were one and a half degrees colder outside, fewer people would be outside murdering each other?

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration revealed in a recently released audit report that in fiscal years 2010 and 2011 more than 1,000 Internal Revenue Service employees misused government charge cards issued by Citibank. The report said that during the two years in question agency employees sent Citibank a total of 325 bad checks written on personal accounts that had insufficient funds to cover them, that agency officials with top-secret security clearances had their charge accounts suspended for failure to pay the balances, and that the IRS had a tendency of being

Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Wednesday that “cultural hesitation” makes it more difficult for some Hispanic parents to want to enroll their children in public pre-school programs because of their preference for family and friends. Duncan’s remarks came when asked about pre-school and the Hispanic community at an event to mark the anniversary of Educare of Washington, D.C., a preschool for children from six weeks to five years old. Educare of Washington, D.C., is part of the Educare Learning Network, which has 18 pre-schools in 12 states.

WASHINGTON - It´s called the Affordable Care Act, but President Barack Obama´s health care law may turn out to be unaffordable for many low-wage workers, including employees at big chain restaurants, retail stores and hotels. That might seem strange since the law requires medium-sized and large employers to offer "affordable" coverage or face fines. But what´s reasonable? Because of a wrinkle in the law, companies can meet their legal obligations by offering policies that would be too expensive for many low-wage workers. For the employee, it´s like a mirage — attractive but out of reach. The company

The Pentagon is concerned that a former National Security Agency contractor who is now in Hong Kong will compromise top-secret electronic intelligence programs targeted against China, according to a defense official. Edward Snowden, the former NSA technician who surfaced in Hong Kong Sunday, worked on highly classified electronic intelligence programs targeting China at the NSA’s Kunia facility in Hawaii. Snowden’s exact whereabouts are not known. He told the South China Morning Post in an interview published Wednesday that he plans to remain in the former British colony,

Kennedy begat Johnson. Johnson begat Nixon. Nixon begat Ford. Ford begat Carter. Carter begat Reagan. Reagan begat Bush. Bush begat Clinton. Clinton begat Bush. Bush begat Obama. And the group is targeting 75 congressional districts for a push on immigration this summer, with a special focus during the August congressional recess. A Senate panel will begin consideration of a carbon tax bill as part of a broader hearing on climate change in mid-July. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) told reporters in the Capitol on Thursday that Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) climate bill will surface during that hearing. Boxer has said she wants to get the legislation to the floor this summer. But it faces a tough path in the Senate, and is likely dead on arrival in the GOP-controlled House. While liberal Democrats have revived previously moribund climate change discourse in recent

The decision by U.S. District Court Judge Edward Korman on Wednesday means that Plan B One-Step, a popular brand of emergency contraception, will soon be available over-the-counter along with its generic counterparts. The decision ends a long battle between women´s health advocates and the Obama administration over who should have access to the morning-after pill. Meanwhile, another Gallup poll shows President Obama with only a 47% approval rating, with 44% disapproving. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. After all, Obama fooled everyone when he ran as the anti-Bush in 2008. Everyone thought Obama meant he would be less hawkish than his predecessor. Asked what the moral difference is between what Dr. Kermit Gosnell did to babies born alive and aborting those same infants moments before birth, Pelosi refused to answer. "As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this," Pelosi said. "This shouldn´t have anything to do with politics."

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that the incidence of pregnancy caused by rape is "very low," prompting criticism from Democrats who said the GOP is waging a "war on women." Franks made the comment during a committee mark-up of his late-term abortion ban bill, which is expected pass the House next week. The Republican lawmaker was arguing against a Democratic amendment allowing rape and incest victims to procure abortions. As written, the bill only exempts women whose lives are in danger. "You know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.
