Heck, I was probably one of the more naive kids of my generation, and even I knew Jim Nabors was gay. (we didn´t call it that back then, what we did call it is left as an exercise for the student).

At least we know now where he came up with his trademark, ´Shazzam!´ Wonder if he ever hit on Barney when he was just trolling the gas pumps?

I like the way Nabors expressed himself when asked questions. He seems like a genuinely good guy.

Everyone knew this back in the 60´s. No one cared. He let his talent speak for him instead of his sexual orientation.

Did Gomer get him a corsage?

This news should surprise exactly nobody.

He and his friend ate at my family´s restaurant on St Thomas one day years ago. They were on a cruise and stopped in for lunch. My mom swooped in and made his acquaintance. He was wonderfully gracious and they would exchange Christmas cards every year. I still have a pic of him there. It was a huge deal for the family. He´s a great guy.

Regardless of his sexual orientation, Nabors provided a lot of good entertainment for a lot of people.

Everyone always knew it, and honestly no one cared. He didn´t rub your face in it, just lived his life. I think the overwhelming majority don´t care if someone is gay or not, they just don´t like having it rubbed in their faces constantly be overthetop activists.

He kept it private, as sexuality should be. The rest is between him and God and therefore none of my business, since he didn´t push our faces into it.

I´m w/ 14 and 15. Nabors is no activist demanding special treatment, or anything else, he´s just living his life, and I respect that. I´m sure the "marriage" was strictly for financial purposes- blame the tax man. BTW, I believe there is no such thing as gay marriage. Marriage is between one man and one woman.

What´s next, the shocking news that Uncle Arthur, Dr. Bombay and Samantha´s father (Bewitched) were gay.

But, #16, if the purpose of such a so-called "marriage" is so that homosexual partners can leave their estates to one another,
it is not true that they needed to force a change in the very meaning of the word "marriage" to accomplish that goal.

And in other news, the sun rises.

Decent actor, great voice, and an all round entertainer.

It´s that Honolulu water. Let´s see..isn´t there another famous gay guy from there that we see on TV all the time????

Good fortunes to the guy. He supported our values and entertained us. He respected us, so respect him. He is a good guy. His orientation wasn´t his choice, and in any event who cares?

I always thought it was given fact

In a way this is a perfect example of why the GOP/RNC is losing ground. For the most part the gay marriage issue should be way down on the "To Do" list of conservatives. Its has been, and rightly so shifted to the states. Add to this the fact that it seems many conservatives like me see it for what it is, a needless distraction. The churches are responsible for allowing government to pry its nose into marriage issue in the first place. The proverbial deal with the devil.

These "issues" are allowing our elected officials distract us from the real issues we all face; the size of government, its run away spending, and its intrusion into our lives.

Until these issues are dealt with, nothing else really matters.

The article´s pic of Andy, Barney and Gomer is interesting. Don Knotts was a legendary womanizer and Griffith a, well, richard. Google it.

Can´t speak to Maurice (Samantha´s father), but Dr. Bombay is not gay. Or if he is, somebody needs to tell the woman he´s been married to since 1961.

If there were a contest for likeability between Jim Neighbors and Andy at this time, I´d definitely make the choice for Jim AND Jim knows his opera. Beautiful voice. Congratulations Jim

Everyone who watched was made aware by the show´s writers that, ´´Gomer,´´ was a little different in his thinking but he was loved for his kind & gentle spirit and the contributions he made to the happiness & unity of the town of, ´´Mayberry.´´ Andy, Barney & the good townspeople, -each of whom certainly had their own, er, ...´uniqueness´, reached out to help & encourage each other. Each one respected the others.

At this late date, 82 year old Nabors now would seem to be using Gomer´s scripted innocent personna to further his own personal political agenda. ...shameless
