Steve Kroft: Obama’s Larry King
National Review, by Jonah Goldberg

| There was a time when a public figure who wanted to get a “fair hearing” — i.e., get his message out without too much pushback or skepticism — sought out Larry King. I’ve never faulted Larry King for that. He was on the infotainment side of journalism, and that’s a fine place to be if you don’t pretend to be doing something different. He’d ask good, sometimes interesting, but usually easy questions, and then let his guests answer them pretty much as they wanted.

With all due respect to Jonah there are even better metaphors:
Kroft is Howard Cosell to Obama´s Muhammad Ali, his Mean Gene to Obama´s Hulk Hogan, his anonymous Tiger Beat reporter to Leif Garrett.
´Mr President, just how awesome are you? Is it realistic that you can be more awesome in a second term?´

Is a ´suck-up´ the same as a journalist? Does a journalist seek out news or merely confirm that Obama is above all questions that seek out news?
Final question .... ... is Kroft a journalist??

There is no one, NO ONE, in the media that can honestly be considered to be a journalist.
FNC has gone round the bend with their so called fair and balanced nonsense.
The so called balance on FNC is totally unbalanced and rabid.

#1, isn´t the first time Jonah has gotten ideas from this forum. Glad he uses this as a source.
Think he did so in ´Liberal Fascists´; we had been running that thread for quite a while before his book came out.
More power to him, if these here ideas get more exposure.
Keep on keepin´ on, Jonah. Maybe someday you will recognize LDot in your sources.

ATLANTA — This is exactly what you want out of a championship game, all of it, every bit of it. You had a No. 1 seed and a No. 4 seed, but on the final Monday of a season that’s just trivia. Louisville and Michigan were separated by a whisker, by a sliver, by a hyphen. That’s all. That’s it.“Two great basketball teams,” Louisville coach Rick Pitino said, “trying to play a great game.”

In what may be the greatest victory to date for the sophisticatedly asinine organization “No Labels,” the Associated Press has embraced a new policy against “labeling people.” For instance, its widely used and influential style guide is being purged of such terms as “schizophrenic” in favor of “diagnosed with schizophrenia.” Most of the chatter about the AP’s move has been over its decision to drop the term “illegal immigrant.” AP Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll explained that the change on “illegal immigrant” was based on the no-labeling policy.

President Obama is giving back 5% of his $400,000 salary to show solidarity with federal workers hit by the dread sequester. That’s not much of a nick to a man who has no worries about living expenses and has plenty of independent income, to boot. But, hey, symbolism counts. It’s an appropriate gesture for a debate about debt and deficits that’s shallow, thanks in no small part to Obama. The dread sequester — remember that? — went into effect one month ago, following weeks of presidential fear-mongering about the automatic cuts.

Announcements by potential 2016 candidates, Hillary Clinton and Rob Portman, that they now approve of gay marriage made headlines as predicted. Never once discussed, however, by advocates is how this issue has anything to do with the economic state of the nation today. Legalizing gay marriage will not improve the economy nor is it really that important to the average homosexual. Celebrity nuptials and endorsements may garner news coverage stressing it as a civil rights issue but ironically these come from a wealthier than average demographic. The average homosexual has concerns that are much more aligned

Rare is the "pro-choice" liberal who admits that abortion kills an unborn human being. The Rev. Al Sharpton made this seldom-witnessed acknowledgement -- or as close as he´s likely to get -- on his radio show while drawing an analogy to his views on the Defense of Marriage Act. (audio clip after page break) --CALLER: I heard one of your callers earlier discuss the, the judicial or judge´s rights to, to approve same-sex marriage. Two of Dr. Salomon Melgen’s maids in the Dominican Republic say the FBI illegally detained them and tried to force them to make false statements against Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and prostitutes, according to a new report. The maids are calling on the Dominican National Police to investigate the FBI’s actions, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday evening. The Herald quoted from an affidavit filed March 6. “The questions posed to her were directed at forcing her to admit” that Menendez “participated in parties with…prostitutes,” according to maid Rosa de Jesus Acosta’s written accusation, as reported by The Herald.

One of the ongoing perplexities of President Obama’s Syria policy has been the stark contrast between his muscular rhetoric and halting, hesitant actions. On the one hand, he has insisted that the country’s dictator Bashar al-Assad “must” go and has predicted that his fall is all but assured. But on the other, he has thus far limited himself to authorizing aid in the form of training and intelligence for Syria’s beleaguered rebels. While we’d be the last to conclude that the case for intervening in Syria is open and shut, we have argued here at Via Meadia

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
