GOP: Obama Still Campaigning,
Not Leading on Immigration

National Review Online, by Andrew Stiles

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 1/29/2013 8:12:51 PM

President Obama’s remarks on immigration reform, delivered Tuesday at a campaign-style event in Las Vegas, were not overtly partisan. However, his message to congressional Republicans was perfectly clear: Get with the program, or suffer politically. Republicans are wary of the president’s call to “finally put this issue [of immigration reform] behind us” by not allowing it to “get bogged down in endless debate.” For one, they are eager to have that debate, which they believe has only just begun. Obama’s remarks did not inspire much enthusiasm. Republicans in both chambers remain cautious in their approach

Republicans definitely should not go along with any liberal Democrat written special path to citizenship for just about all illegal aliens now in the USA. There has never been a special path to citizenship in the US immigration laws before, not even for the many millions of legal immigrants who have come to America over two centuries, who were always required to qualify for an immigrant visa to get permanent residence and then attain at least five years of residency in the USA as a permanent resident before they qualified to petition for US citizenship.

The only reason that Obama and the liberal Democrats want such a streamlined path to citizenship is that they recognize that historically about 80% of legalized aliens eventually become Democrat voters. Nobody knows how many illegal aliens are here, Obama´s water carriers in the liberal media claim 11 million, but there could easily be 20 million or more illegal aliens here now. If 80% of eiher of those those numbers became Democrat voters in a few years, and by allowing such an amnesty to pass, the Republicans will have committed long-term political suicide.

All I hear from the GOP is "waaaaaaaaaaaahh"..
The GOP needs to STOP campaigning manically against Oblahma, because they´ve already lost. The prudent thing to do is for the GOP to try leading on the issues - i.e. make the case AGAINST amnesty. And, no, you don´t have to risk being called a nativist to do so, wimps. Get up in front of a crowd of LEGAL immigrants. Talk about their struggles with the backwards and buraucratic INS -- a Democrat institution. Talk about the plight of LEGAL US workers who´ve seen their wages go flat in the last 30 years due, in part, to an infinite labor pool that grows by leaps and bounds with every subsequent wave of illegal workers. Talk about the plight of Mexico -- a country that has been destabilized by do-gooding liberals inducing folks to risk life and limb crossing the border to take advantage of free government cheese. It is high time the lame-o GOP quit whining about Oblahma like a pack of gelded chihuahuas and instead showed a little bit of leadership here. And, sorry Rubio, but amnesty is NOT LEADERSHIP!

What If Obama Can´t Lead?
National Journal, by Ron Fournier    Original Article

Two New York Times reporters recently posited for President Obama this grim scenario: Low growth, high unemployment, and growing income inequality become "the new normal" in the nation he leads. "Do you worry," the journalists asked him, "that that could end up being your legacy simply because of the obstruction ... and the gridlock that doesn´t seem to end?" Obama´s reply was telling. "I think if I´m arguing for entirely different policies and Congress ends up pursuing policies that I think don´t make sense and we get a bad result," he said, "it´s hard to argue that´d be my legacy.

Bradley Manning verdict signals

A military court Tuesday convicted Army Pfc. Bradley Manning of violating the Espionage Act for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks, a verdict that legal analysts say likely will have a chilling effect on others considering revealing government secrets. While Manning, 25, was acquitted of the most serious charge — aiding the enemy, which carried a penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole — he still faces up to 136 years in prison when he is sentenced at Fort George G. Meade, Md. The sentencing hearing, which starts Wednesday

Saudi Arabia accused of

A Saudi Arabian activist said his government provided Egypt´s military with $1 billion to stage a coup against former president Mohammed Morsi and install interim leadership. Political activist Mujtahid bin Hareth bin Hammaam, who operates an active Twitter campaign aimed at exposing corruption in the Saudi government, said Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received the money on July 3, United Press International reported. The reason for the payoff, he alleged, was so Egypt’s transfer of power would flow smoothly. But now the Saudi government isn’t sure it spent its money wisely, he said.

Republican lawmakers blasted a proposal by President Obama on Tuesday to cut corporate taxes in exchange for more spending on job-training programs, calling it a revival of a failed plan that would raise taxes initially. “It’s just a further-left version of a widely panned plan he already proposed two years ago — this time, with extra goodies for tax-and-spend liberals,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican. “The tax hike it includes is going to dampen any boost businesses might otherwise get to help our economy.” Mr. Obama visited an Amazon.com distribution center in Chattanooga, Tenn.,

Writing at RealClearPolitics, Heather Wilhelm says that she’s moving from Chicago to Austin, Texas soon. Howdy and welcome! Her move has generated the usual liberal reaction — “Oh, good, because Austin is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the rest of Texas.” Implying, or often outright stating, that the rest of Texas is a relic of the Neanderthal era with a strong dose of that old time religion that liberals fear and loathe so much. The reaction amuses her, as it should. This deep-seated fear of the ills of religion is intriguing, given that in both books, said ills

The consensus response to President Obama’s Knox College speech on the economy is that the administration has been reduced to pushing a menu of stale and timid policies that, in any case, won’t be enacted. But what if the administration isn’t actually out of ideas? What if Obama’s boldest policy initiative is merely something he’d rather not discuss? And what if that initiative is being enacted right now? A year ago, I published Spreading the Wealth: How Obama Is Robbing the Suburbs to Pay for the Cities. Mr. Woods‘ accompanying Twitter text: “Rolling Stone cover we will never see.” On Monday, the tweet was still making social media waves, with nearly 700 retweets and more than 260 ‘favorites’ clicks.

The FBI has told Congress it does not need to get a warrant to conduct surveillance with drones, in a letter laying out some of the top federal law enforcement agency’s policies for how it uses unmanned aerial vehicles. In a July 19 letter to Sen. Rand Paul, Stephen D. Kelly, assistant director for the FBI’s congressional liaison office, said the agency has used drones in 10 instances, including twice for “national security” cases and eight times for criminal cases. The FBI authorized the use of drones in three other criminal cases but didn’t deploy them.

"Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
