Judge dismisses case of
former rep suing pro-life
group over election loss

Fox News, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/29/2013 10:12:55 AM

A federal judge has ruled against an ex-Ohio congressman who sued the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List for contributing to his election defeat. In the unusual case, which former Rep. Steve Driehaus launched two years ago, the Ohio Democrat tried to hold Susan B. Anthony List accountable for spreading "lies" about him -- ultimately inflicting, he claimed, "reputational" and "economic" harm. The defamation case itself raised questions about the limits of rapid-fire ads, billboards and other campaign literature in a political race. In this case, Driehaus complained that the Susan B. Anthony List unfairly accused him

Comments:
Ohio should be celebrating this moron wasn´t elected. He said they were spreading "lies" about him -- ultimately inflicting, he claimed, "reputational" and "economic" harm." If Republicans based lawsuits on that language there would be thousands of them filed every day. What a moron.

The immigration gang

The status quo on immigration is “horrible for America,” Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” On that much, all sides of the debate are pretty much in agreement. The Florida Republican and the rest of the Senate “Gang of Eight” will outline their legislative solution to this enduring problem on Tuesday. With an estimated 11 million illegal aliens having successfully sneaked over, under and through the border into the country, the Gang’s proposal ought to be judged first and foremost on how comprehensively it deals with border security. There’s plenty of reason for skepticism.

Background check setback:
‘We will not get the votes

Sen. Joe Manchin, West Virginia Democrat and one of the co-sponsors of a measure to expand gun-purchase background checks to sales online and at gun shows, said that proponents do not have the votes to pass it Wednesday. The development is a gigantic setback for gun control advocates, who, after the Connecticut shooting rampage, had their eyes set on much more ambitious controls, such as bans on certain types of weapons and magazines and universal background checks on all gun sales. President Obama has made campaign-style trips to sell the administration’s package, crafted by Vice President Joseph R. Biden,

Who says there’s no bipartisanship left in Congress? In posting the announcement on his Twitter and Facebook pages, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said, “This is not Rep. Ryan’s first time in Chicago but it is his first time at a pro-immigrant event in our pro-immigrant city. Let’s show Rep. Ryan – an influential voice among House Republicans – the enthusiasm and strength of Chicago’s pro-immigrant community, and in so doing impress upon him that by standing with immigrants he’s standing on the right side of history.”

The liberal online magazine Salon published an opinion piece Tuesday evening by columnist David Sirota entitled, “Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American,” in which Sirota argued that if the perpetrator of Monday’s bombing attack, which left at least three people dead, is identified as a Muslim then conservative Republicans will use the tragedy to block Obama administration policy goals like immigration reform. “If recent history is any guide, if the bomber ends up being a white anti-government extremist, white privilege will likely mean the attack is portrayed as just an

Anthony Weiner is on a roll. A week after floating his name as a possible mayoral candidate, the disgraced former congressman finishes second when he’s included in the field of Democrats, a new poll reveals. Weiner — who resigned from office in 2011 after getting caught in a sexting scandal — said he’s mulling a political comeback by running for mayor. The Marist poll is the first to include Weiner, and shows him pulling 15 percent of the Democratic vote in a hypothetical race — trailing only Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who garners 26 percent. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), a leading member of the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” pushing immigration reform, has taken to using the term "undocumented" to describe illegal aliens. The term, which is not always accurate, is common on the left and frequently mocked on the right. During his charm offensive this weekend, in which he appeared on a record seven Sunday news programs to push his forthcoming immigration plan, Rubio called illegal aliens “undocumented” on a number of occasions (emphasis added, below).

Protocol: President Obama declined to send a high-level delegation to Wednesday´s funeral of Britain´s Margaret Thatcher. It´s a measure of how little he values the special relationship — and a sign of his own smallness. Back in more gracious times, vice presidents routinely attended funerals of foreign dignitaries. As such, the presence of Vice President Joe Biden — if not Obama himself — would seem fitting for as significant a U.S. ally as the late Prime Minister Thatcher, if not out of warmth of feeling, then simply to represent the U.S.´ gratitude. Bush’s response to the attacks of September 11, 2001, was not. She accused Bush of being unavailable to the American people for the “first couple weeks” after the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Reid told Wagner that the president’s statement actively combatted the intention of the terrorists, which is to make their targets feel “discombobulated.” “Having, sort of

As we now move into the official Political Aftermath period of the Boston bombing — the period that will determine the long-term legislative fallout of the atrocity — the dynamics of privilege will undoubtedly influence the nation’s collective reaction to the attacks. That’s because privilege tends to determine: 1) which groups are — and are not — collectively denigrated or targeted for the unlawful actions of individuals; and 2) how big and politically game-changing the overall reaction ends up being.
