| San Diego - Tiger Woods is a winner again at Torrey Pines, and the only question Monday was how long it would take him to finish. Woods stretched his lead to eight shots in the Farmers Insurance Open before losing his focus and his patience during a painfully slow finish by the group ahead. Despite dropping four shots over the last five holes, he still managed an even-par 72 for a four-shot victory on the course where he has won more than any other in his pro career. He won the tournament for the seventh time,

Looks like he is staging a comeback, but he won´t dominate play the way he did 10 years ago. In any case, it´s fun to know all the major tournaments for the year are just over the horizon.

It´s fascinating that tiger was irritated by slow play. For he specializes in "painfully slow" play around the greens.

Wouldn´t doubt that even an Antique Golfer would be irritated if his 4th round on Sunday and Monday took 6 hours, particularly, after playing a full 3rd on Sunday too...

Best part was that play on Sunday was delayed for so long that we just couldn´t pass on golf to watch 60 minutes.

Respectfully Mr. Buckeye, I agree that tiger woods has every right to be irritated by a 6 hour round. If play was that slow the group in front of woods deserved to be put on the clock and fined. As for reply 2, I stand by it.

Is it just a coincidence that Tiger wins as rumors of a reconciliation with his ex-wife abound?
Maybe marriage suits him after all.

He wears a red, not a maroon, shirt on final day and it was on but it was too cold for him to take off his sweater.
He is a tiresome, petulant, petty person - fusses over planes overhead, birds, people clicking cameras, leaves falling, you name it. I don´t know how he tolerated the ubiquitous hang-gliders in this beautiful area.
If he relaxed a bit, he might play better. All the time.

The gushing of the bromancing announcers made this almost impossible to watch. Ian whatshisname was the worst, but Jim Nantz has a love affair with Tiger.
We´re back to one-man tournaments where only one player is followed and lovingly photographed, where all the commentary is cooing about that player, and where some of us say "enough".

Sorry about multiple posts but I cannot resist after the reading reply 13, who is spot on about Boros. There was a joke about Julius´ fast play that he´d walk up to the ball, puff on his cigarette, flick it away and start his backswing before the smoke hit the ground.

#12 has a point...I was pained to see Phil´s play and missed the excitement of Vijay, or Ernie, or others bringing drama to this tourney...more young turks gotta step it up to give us more than a Tiger / Rory show in 2013...

The love affair goes way beyond Nantz and partner. ESPN will always provide 2 details about any tournament: the leader and how many shots Eldrick is back. Same for every other network sports division. Newspapers will carry a photo of Eldrick for three days straight, then we´ll get a shot of the winner on Monday morning. The Notre Dame of the PGA. Those complaining about the over-the-top broadcast announcers’ focus on Tiger should be delighted he won’t be playing TPC Scottsdale this week or AT&T Pebble Beach next week and most likely the Northern Trust Open at Riviera. You won’t have to suffer Tiger until the WGC Accenture Match Play at the end of February but at least most of the top golfers in the world will be there.

Williamson, W.Va.- The man suspected of killing a West Virginia sheriff as he ate lunch in his car was mentally disturbed and had no particular vendetta with law enforcement, his father told The Associated Press on Thursday. Melvin Maynard said his 37-year-old son, Tennis Melvin Maynard, was exposed to harmful chemicals and injured while working at an Alabama coal mine. He most likely did not target Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum, he said. "He would have probably shot anybody, the first one he come to, you know what I´m saying?" the elder Maynard said. But instead of cheering, we should be very afraid. Over the last 13 years, the stock market has twice crashed and touched off a recession: American households lost $5 trillion in the 2000 dot-com bust and more than $7 trillion in the 2007 housing crash. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
